Wii U Virtual Console - News and Releases

I have a bad feeling about tomorrow. Not only was Europe confirmed to not get anything on Thursday, but at this point in time, there still isn't anything indicating North America will, either.

I'd hope they won't let a week go by this early on Wii U's VC life. Seriously, what's the reasoning there?

I really can't believe Wii had N64 day one and Wii U is 9 months old and we've only seen NES/SNES and already getting weeks of no releases. Virtual Console is a disaster.

You need to realize that emulating a game isn't a one day job here, Nintendo has to make sure there are no game breaking bugs, compatibility with the controls and other little things at a time.

hmm, I wonder if NA even gets anything tomorrow. Normally the Nintendo.com/games area sometimes tells us in advance, and sometimes doesn't.

They backed away from doing N64 or later VC releases when Ocarina 3DS proved that they could get $40 for a rerelease instead of $10 for a VC version. It's the same reason the Donkey Kong Country games disappeared from the eshop when Nintendo realized they were going to release new DKC games for $40-$60 each. Being able to buy a similar game on VC for sub-$10 diminishes the value of the more expensive versions of similar/identical games.

At this point im convinced it will be years before we see N64 games on VC, long after Nintendo has done a few more $40+ rereleases of N64 classics.

It's not like there's much left in the oven. Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time are their biggest N64 games and they've already been ported.

That's the craziest theory I've heard about why the DKC trilogy disappeared yet..

this. god damn wii u virtual console sucks. they should be PUMPING games out during this drought. such a simple, inexpensive thing to keep wii u owners distracted until the games start dropping.

they should take down super mario world so it doesn't diminish the value of nsmb u

Really? I always assumed they took them down to push the new ones sales.
That makes absolutely no logical sense whatsoever. No one is going to pass on DKCR because they can play the old game instead, if anything it hurts sales because not everyone played these games/series when they originally released. Though, this is Nintendo so you're probably right. They did say YouTube was a giant pirate site after all.

People are saying Earthbound is now available for download (still have a few minutes for my Wii U to finish updating). So yeah, go go go!!

Is there a list of all Euro VC games that are 50hz or 60hz? I updated my code so I can display that, but unsure which ones are actually 60hz/US version.
I checked nintendo.co.uk and the eShop descriptions for F-Zero and EarthBound. They're all the US versions (and in the case of Mario's Picross the Japanese Version) except for the following:

Super Metroid
Kirby’s Adventure

The descriptions for both games read: "[Game title] on Wii U is the European version of the game, which was optimised originally by the developer to offer gameplay and music speed similar to the US version. Demos and animations may run at PAL speed. The aspect ratio has been corrected for this release."

Balloon Fight has recently been updated and now runs faster. The press release stated: "This is an updated European version of the game. It has now been optimised to run at a similar speed to the US version and with corrected aspect ratio."

Where does one find this info so quick?

I have never played a HM game.

Someone in a different thread on GAF said they found out about it right on the eShop itself.

Unlike NOE and NCL, NOA isn't very consistent with how the next upcoming VC games are initially revealed. We typically find out about EU's games every Monday morning via PR statement and JP's games every Tuesday night via the eShop, but for NA it can really be whenever, however.

I know you're banned but yeah, I need some N64 games.
and I want to know if GCN games are coming too or not =/

I recommend it, very fun game.

Anyways, Europe tends to reveal their eShop download list a few days in advance, but NOA doesn't. Sometimes we find out via the eShop (like Harvest Moon) or via their actual website. Sometimes they list the game in advance, but that is not always reliable, sometimes the date is a placeholder.

Good stuff!

One minor nitpick, though: Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts is on the list twice. You could just take down the Japanese entry.

Not the greatest, but far from useless. I'd be all over a bunch of VC sales, and one of the reasons I want a WiiU.

Patiently waiting for bomba price drops.
