Wii U Virtual Console - News and Releases

I can't believe they didn't release A Link to the Past on Wii U before A Link Between Worlds. I really wanted to play it on the Game Pad.

I feel the same way. I actually had this crazy idea that they would release it for the 3DS Virtual Console - since, y'know, A Link Between Worlds is coming out on it, too - but clearly they are going to hold SNES games hostage on the 3DS Virtual Console for a while longer.

I get that the Wii U is currently in a dire situation that they need to turn around, but preventing any SNES games from being posted onto the 3DS Virtual Console seems ridiculous at this point other than to appease Ambassadors (who, at this point in time, I'm not sure if they would still be angry if other, new SNES games were to appear on the VC.)

Don't tell me to understand, Iwata!

No SNES games have been released on 3DS' VC yet, nor have any been announced; ambassadors got NES ans GBA games.
Still, there's the GBA port of ALttP so they cold have given us that.

Ah, thanks. Must have completely mis-remembered the Ambassador fiasco.

... Of course, knowing that there were GBA games in the bunch makes it worse.

Same, but with the 3DS Zelda and 3D Mario, they don't want to distract people I guess.

Hope it hits before Christmas. Never finished the game as i've never enjoyed playing it on an emulator. The Wii U would be perfect.

That is pretty astonishing, really.

I'm not sure why Ambassadors would think that the thing they got from the program was "exclusive access forever to these titles no one else can ever get" instead of, y'know, "a ton of free games."

Japan will be getting Castlevania and Downtown Special: Kunio-kun no Jidaigeki da yo Zen'in Shūgō! on 12/4.

Well Nintendo did kind of imply it to a certain extent

These games will be available exclusively to Ambassadors, and Nintendo currently has no plans to make these 10 games available to the general public on Nintendo 3DS in the future.

Read original post again. It was about two games a week. No game in particular.

But games in particular add to the release pipeline. If Japan is averaging 2 and US the west is averaging 1 but Japan typically sees on average an extra release from a 3rd party that doesn't appear to support the western VC (not even including non-localized titles) then where does the problem lie?

Yes but why do we need to state the obvious? For more games to be available, we need more games to be given to the VC team for release, obviously. It's not like Nintendo has blown its full catalog, though. So third parties aren't holding back a faster rate of anything right now. And believe you me, I am the firs tperson to throw shit at Square Enix for how they handle their back-catalog (esp. the big middle finger they give to Wii U VC by not allowing screenshots ...god fucking damnit these idiots).

Is there any way to play the Gamecube Rogue Squadron game without buying a Gamecube and physical copy?

Someone really needs to grill NoE on the 50Hz issue and ask them why they aren't giving us the option to buy NTSC versions.

I can't wait for Nintendo's next direct.

Hopefully some more news on the virtual console.

Also; some footage of X, bayonetta 2, mario kart 8 and smash

Ya really. Come the fuck on Nintendo, open the flood gates.

"Happy holidays from Nintendo. We are announcing the 12 days of virtual console Christmas, starting with the GameCube release of Wave Race Blue Storm, followed up with F-Zero GX to whet your appetite. We'll announce new titles each day."

I mean shit, they don't even have to give us a freebie or a sale. Just give us the option to give you money you stupid fuckers.

I'm a little interested in Legend of the Mystical Ninja because I remember playing it back in the day and enjoying it. But I also remember never beating it, and I can't for the life of me remember where I got stuck.

Although that didn't stop me from buying Super Castlevania IV either.

...but goddamn, I want LTTP or Mega Man X2. Europe has them both. Why the fuck doesn't NA? :(

I remember getting stuck when I was younger too. I played it again a couple years ago and finally beat it. Love the game bought it the day it came out on the VC.

Speaking as a bona fide Ambassador, the lack of GBA games on the 3DS VC service is probably the most stupefyingly stupid things Nintendo have ever done.

I'd understand it if they didn't want to cross the streams, so just kept portable games on the 3DS VC and home console games on the WiiU VC. But to not put them on either is rage inducing.

Japan will be getting Super Mario Bros. 3, Gradius (MSX), and Bonk's Adventure (TG-16) on 11/25.

That's great news - seeing two platforms added in one week (and 3 games total!)! So I wonder if the same rules still apply, meaning if you own it on Wii, you can upgrade it at a discount (around $1.25 in this case?). Both platforms are Konami games (since Konami absorbed Hudson and therefore the TG-16 library). Sega, you're next!

Oh, also, Final Fantasy 1 is on 3DS in Japan now. That and the Wii U version share a Miiverse board. I don't want to speculate any special meaning with that, but it's basically screaming that Nintendo knows cross-play should be a thing. Regardless, it sounds like we'll be hearing some positive news on the VC front during tomorrow's Direct.

Interesting about the Miiverse board sharing. I have to wonder, what's preventing N64 games being on the Wii U VC? Is the N64 emulator too hard for them to port or something?

N64 games were announced about a year ago. They're just dragging ass for some reason. I could see N64 being too complex for 3DS (kinda), but Wii U shouldn't be an issue?

They may be looking at HD remakes for some key titles like Mario 64 and stuff like that though?
