WiiU - Undercooked and rushed to the market?

The Wii was a make or break console. Nintendo took risks and from day 1 it was a megahit. The GC was quickly forgotten and the Nintendo is doomed meme quickly died and was long forgotten.

With the Wii-U, nintendo was coming from a hit console. They could have played it safe and released an uber-console and enjoy their 2 year head start. Instead for whatever reason, Iwata decided to take a risk. He decided to make their follow up something even more revolutionary. A big screen HD quality Nintendo DS.

It's early days but so far it's probably the worst Nintendo launch ever.

Poor online
Features missing
3rd parties are luke warm over it.
Reviews are piss poor
No revolutionary killer app

All signs point to a bad generation for nintendo and the momentum may be lost due to a risk that they didn't have to make, a risk that might cost them the next generation?

Online is fine. I'm getting 60fps/no lag in COD.
The features they promised are all there. It could use more though.
I don't think we will know much about how 3rd parties will feel about the system until we see support a year from now.
Reviews have been fine. Some games are getting pretty damn good reviews. It's a system at launch.
Most consoles don't launch with killer apps.

System lag is a huge problem. Same goes with locking the Nintendo ID to your console. Those two needs to be fixed.

Of all my gaming friends, gamer nephews and humans on this earth.. I do not know 1 single person talking about, nor excited about the WiiU. Clearly that doesn't represent the community and consumers as a whole but it certainly doesn't change my narrow view that nobody seems remotely interested.

My nephews who own a Wii, 360 and countless DSs told me they'd rather get iPads. For what its worth.

Personally I say wait 6 months then lets see how they're doing.

These forums are really something during E3/Console Launches. Stop making threads out of every little thought in your head.

Sounds like every console launch.

From every manufacturer.

Give me a break.

This thread is about Nintendo and the next generation, not specifically the Wii-U.

It's a bannable offence not to read the OP!

Still one of the wosrt and most pointless threads in a week overflowing with them.

dear god makes these threads stop!!!!

fine, okay, Nintendo is dead and will never come back. crash and burn OH THE HUMANITY, is that what you guys want to hear (some of you not all of you)?! Does their existence offend you?

i cant anymore

I like how you could backdate this post to November 2006, change every Nintendo reference to Sony and the Playstation 3.

No, trust us. We read it.

You give no reason behind poor online. Many seem to be enjoying miiverse and COD is supposed to have a decent online system.

About the no killer app: people seemed to be extremely excited about off tv play. Overwhelmingly, you could say.

it is awesome..Runs so smooth...

Way too early to say anything.

.

It looks somewhat bad right now but the waters are muddy at best. With that said, Nintendo is a brand people know and love, and that always pushes it far. Look at the iPhone for example; there are many other, clearly better alternatives out there, but there's an attachment and cultural bias people have to the Apple brand that pushes sales every new iteration.

Now, clearly Nintendo can't live on their name forever, so if the Wii U does turn out to be a colossal fuck-up, it will definitely hurt them, but they still have enough cache to make a complete 180 with the next console. That's just if the console is a complete disaster. If it's mediocre or good, then it doesn't really matter, as they still have their name, brand appeal, and they have a whole new chance to prove themselves.

Someone remind me, did we have this many negative Nintendo threads after Wii launched? Because I thought it was the worst thing ever for gaming according to some.

The last two, maybe. Those first three? That's every Nintendo launch isn't it?

Interseting... I hear that there are more wiius then at the wii launch and i also hear it sold out already

I don't remember Zelda being a huuuge seller. It's all about Mario Kart.

It's Nintendo's hardcore franchise. A lot of people buy Nintendo consoles when Zelda is out. It may not be as good seller as Mario, but its fanbase is probably one of the most loyal in the video game industry, even with all the complains when a new game is out.

Edit: wat? oh, ok, threads merged :lol

You have a point

I move in a lot of circles,a lot of them related to this medium, and still dont know a single person interested on the console, some of them on zombi u but 380 euros just for one game its a big hurdle for them

it strange, because some of them bought 3ds or vitas and a lot of them got the wii, boggles my mind how a lot of my friends who got the wii dont give a fuck about the wiiu

its not the console, its just the lineup,if you arent a big nintendo fan you dont have any incentive buy this system, not yet.
