Wikileaks/Assange Press Conference on Please Give Rubles (10/4/16)

They were hoping to have embarrassing campaign info again on Hillary except the Russians played their card way too early, were found out quickly to be the ones behind Wikileaks and everything they have hacked since has either been fake bait or nothing as it's all probably been moved elsewhere and secured.

Wikileaks trying to make fetch happen through the entirety of the election is easily one of my favorite things about this election. They're like the comedy relief of a tense movie, they always walk in just long enough to bumble about to raucous laughter and then they exit the stage until the tension gets too tight again.

Trump backers realize theyÂ’ve been played as WikiLeaks fails to deliver October surprise

LONDON — The expectations were breathless.

For weeks, backers of Republican nominee Donald Trump have hyped the tantalizing possibility that the anti-secrecy organization WikiLeaks was on the verge of publishing a set of documents that would doom Hillary ClintonÂ’s chances in November.

“@HillaryClinton is done,” longtime Trump associate Roger Stone tweeted Saturday. “#Wikileaks.”

The group’s founder, Julian Assange, did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm, suggesting to Fox News hosts that his scoops could upend the race with documents “associated with the election campaign, some quite unexpected angles, some quite interesting.”

The announcement by WikiLeaks that it would host a major news conference Tuesday only seemed to confirm that the bombshell was ready to burst. The pro-Trump, anti-Clinton media world rippled with fevered speculation.

But if an October surprise about the Democratic nominee really is coming, it will have to wait a little longer.

Over the course of two hours Tuesday — with the world’s media and bleary-eyed Trump die-hards across the United States tuning in — Assange and other WikiLeaks officials railed against “neo-McCarthyist hysteria,” blasted the mainstream press, appealed for donations and plugged their books (“40 percent off!”).

But what they didn’t do was provide any new information about Clinton — or about anything else, really.

The much-vaunted news conference, as it turned out, was little more than an extended infomercial for WikiLeaks on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of its founding.

Assange, whose group released a trove of hacked Democratic National Committee documents on the eve of the partyÂ’s convention this summer, breezily dismissed the idea that anyone should have expected any news at his news conference.

“If we are going to make a major publication about the U.S., we wouldn't do it at 3 a.m.," Assange said at one point, referring to the Eastern daylight start time for the event.

That didnÂ’t go over well with Trump backers who had stayed up through the night, thinking theyÂ’d be watching live the unveiling of the death blow to the Clinton campaign.

Assange, as it turns out, had taken a page from TrumpÂ’s own playbook by drawing an audience with a tease, only to leave those tuning in feeling that theyÂ’d been tricked.

Infowars, the pro-Trump and virulently anti-Clinton media vehicle launched by Texas radio host Alex Jones, had touted the WikiLeaks news conference as “historic” and promised that “the Clintons will be devastated.”

Before Assange took the stage, Jones — who broadcast through the wee hours of the American morning — told viewers and listeners he was so excited he was worried his heart couldn't stand it.

But by the end, Jones realized he’d been played — or in his words, “#wikirolled.”

But perhaps those waiting for an October surprise shouldnÂ’t lose all hope just yet. Or at least, that was the message from Assange, who spoke via video link from the Ecuadoran embassy in London, where heÂ’s been holed up for the past four years as Swedish authorities seek his extradition on sexual assault charges.

This is brilliant. I wonder if r/TheDonald can handle the disappointment.

Funny how all the so called "leaders" of the alt-right and The Donald himself are all about draining the pockets of their followers.

Reminds me of when Gamergate was blowing up and asshats like Milo were happy to latch on to sway idiots to going to Breitbart even though he admitted to hating gamers in the past.

All of these alt-right idiots calling people sheep when they're the ones getting led around by their noses.

This whole October Surprise crap never made any sense. People have spent years dragging out the email and benghazi scandals forever, but this supposed campaign killing secret that would wreck Hillary and cause the heavens to part through the clouds couldn't come any sooner than a month before he election?

Wikileaks is a business.

They work for Russia and whoever else pays them money to make "leaks" public.

Their cause is profit, not transparency. Please stop making them look like underground champions. It's an insult to real people who are trying to rebel against tyranny and oppression in the world. In fact, Wikileaks has probably done more to promote tyranny and oppression than hinder it, by carelessly exposing innocent people in their crusade against reality.

They most certainly do not want to watch the world burn, because they are making a lot of money off their tinfoil hat sympathizers and subterfuge government agencies.

Wake up folks. You're being played.

I'm kinda confused at Assange and Wikileaks in general. I thought they were the "good guys", but all I see/hear from either of them the last few months [?] is nothing but trash.

They were "good guys" while they were airing the dirty laundry of a Republican administration. Not so much when a Democrat took office.

What was he in 2006?

I dont know and i dont really care. Ive got a headache today and not in the mood fkr coy posting games. I already said you can call him whatever you want in regards to my post. Right now he has every alt righter hanging on his every tweet waiting for their next ammo. Despite his history and wikileaks hyporcitical status and ties to Russia. He has an obvious agenda against Hillary and the DNC and the alt right in particular are following him and championing what he is doing. And now hes trying to get into their wallets. So what did i get wrong?

"Dirty laundry" in this particular instance was a conspiracy nut saying an anonymous source told them Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State said the US should kill Assange with a drone. No word on whether she's a lizard person yet.

Which kinda gives you an idea of why people stopped taking him seriously.

Pretty special to see right wing lunatics fall in love with another over hyped bullshit artist and consistently be given nothing.

Coy posting games?

The jist of your argument isn't necessarily wrong.

From 2008 onward, his leaks damaged Obama's administration, and could potentially damage a future Clinton administration. Righties cheered. However, in 2006, his leaks damaged W's administration, and lefties cheered.

It appears that Assange is consistent on being leaky, and the response differs depending on which team in power gets egg on their face.

The video montage they played showed players on both the left and right being pissed off at him and calling him a terrorist.

It's over for Hillary. Dropping this pretend-Hillary stance already. The DNC is crumbling. Hillary's emails are all over the net. Operation Jade Helm has been successfully thwarted by the efforts of Solid Snake. Trump will be inaugurated as planned and freedom will preservere while you sheep continue to sleep ignorantly through the revolution.

Lefties didn't turn on Assange until relatively recently from my experience; I certainly didn't see the same ire towards them in 2010. This may have something to do with Wikileaks being a blatant Russian propaganda site post-Crimea, recent "leaks" often being tracked to Russian state-sponsored hackers who are currently trying to hack voter registration sites, and the bullshit of calling out governments for infringing people's privacy while publically dumping SSNs or voter addresses (and getting their information from fucking hackers).

The stuff he leaks also changed in that time.

Out of interest, what would happen if something suddenly made Hillary unelectable so close to the election, when she's already been nominated as the Democrats representative? Would she just step down and be replaced?
