WildStar: Reloaded |OT| Full Steam Ahead!

tried doing Fragment Zero on the NA PVE server...horrible lag then "Lost Connection To User Server"

this is starting to really irritate me...it's like the more "maintenance" they do the worse the servers actually get

Huh I finally got my character into the PvE server after 2 times of waiting/creating this morning, it was instant too on the third try, might've gotten lucky.

Connection lost to server... can't even get my characters to load in char select now. Good times.

i'm trying to create a character on Jabbit but game gets stuck after pressing Enter Game....

If you wait long enough, it might go through. Did for me earlier.

Yeah, after seeing that you got a character through after servers went down, or leaving it in the hourglass limbo for a long time I just waited until they announced servers were about to be pulled and create my characters then and wait until they kick me. Seems it goes through that way. Both times I tried that created my characters.

This game really does have some fantastic vistas.

I wonder if this really is a megaserver. It seems more like they moved everyone to 1 server when the population was really small and called it a "megaserver", and now they are trying to jam everyone into a single PVE and PVP server. A megaserver should be spawning more shards as people sign on.

They're not megaservers.

They even had some lag issues during the anniversary when some people came back due to the 20 dollar physical copy price. Nothing like these queue times though, and definitely not as massive of a lag, but I recall some issues around the anniversary.

Incorrect, they are megaservers the link just stated they aren't using the same tech as GW2.

Now I will say the megaservers aren't the best, but they are in fact megasevers just like ESO.

That's interesting. So they really are cramming everyone into 2 servers.

Yeah, I mean I'm sure they're bigger than the original servers, and they probably host multiple instances, but they're not a megaserver in the GW2 sense of the word. Carbine should have anticipated this demand.

The good news is that jumping in and running around on my warrior felt really good. Missed the feel of this game.

Right, I corrected my term above. I should have put quoties around "megaserver." I think a lot of people were expecting GW2 performance.

The game is unplayable right now regardless of the terminology.

How does mob tagging work in this game? It feels like some of the timed challenges are impossible what with the low level areas being flooded with people. :-/

Also, I wish it was more clear what exactly counted for a timed challenge...

well, just logged in fine (no queue) but its still completely unplayable due to lag. yeeeeah...

I was able to create a character and made my way to Nexus... And instead of the loading screen, a Windows exception crash appeared, haha.

To be fair that isn't true. In Aug 2013 they implemented a Wallet and had to do downtime for a few hours but got it back up before the scheduled time. In ANet's 10 year history, they've had maybe ~50 hours of downtime, 24 of which was to physically move servers. Their server tech is better than any other company in gaming. So good that they own the rights to the proprietary tech. As gamers they absolutely loathe downtime and they made it their mission to not have it for their games.

~50 hours in 10 years is till WAAAAAY less than most other games.

But anyway... plan on getting on Wildstar today and start playing. :D

the character I made and got the hourglass of doom on the american server works, and theres zero lag. guess im rerolling my medic on the US servers then

who did we whisper for a guild invite again? dragon punch or Aeana was it?

I still believe the 'mega server's are just regular ones, haha

They aren't just regular, traditional servers. You can tell they aren't simply by going to the newb zones and looking around. There should be hundreds, if not thousands of people around.

Even korean F2P garbage MMOs have more players in the newbie zones at launch day. They're clearly using shards.

Ok, my Chua is level 6 and my Granok is level 3. Definitely easier to play a medic in lag than a spellslinger, even if i am pretty sure I like spellslinger more atm (hard to tell at such a low level). Both are fun enough, but the lag makes even lower level challenges seem impossible.

I will look into joining the gaf circles more when the lag is less terrible.

Just tried logging in before work and my character seems to be created. Can I get an invite to the NA PvE Exile guild? My spellslinger is called Jenna Novae.

From the two minutes of running around I did it seems the animations in this game are really fluid. Me likey.

My bad, I'm on the NA PvE Dominion side. Could someone shoot me an invite?

I'm at work so I probably won't see it until I get home, but thanks in advance!

Fun fact: The tutorial areas and starter zones are heavily instanced. The population cap is set intentionally very low to help mitigate that exact type of issue.

That has nothing to do with server architecture. Let's just say that the term 'megaserver' was selected because of it's implication, not what's actually going on behind the scenes.

It's a lot better than trying to say "We upgraded our server hardware to allow 5x more players per server, but we also have such low population right now that we can put all of you on one server."

Estimated Wait Time: Less than a minute!

I've been in a queue for an hour, made a character, the game crashed, and now I'm back at this queue again. goddamnit man

Even if the servers themselves can handle the load that means little if the rest of their network can't handle it. You're only as good as your weakest link.

Not sure if this was posted here, but I see someone from Carbine(?) posted on Reddit about what exactly the issue is here.

We managed to track down what is specifically causing the issue. There are more issues but the major one is any time you are given loot/exp (By a mob or enemy player). The server is basically getting shredded by this happening in so many places at once. So if you're anywhere within that area or a similar instance you're very likely also going to get insane lag.
They said they are looking into the issue for a fix. Which I hope is very soon so I can PVE/PVP.

Everytime someone gets loot or xp...in a mmo...

...

...

...is this for real? :p

Demand is only going to increase as we enter the weekend. I imagine it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Yep, it's not ganna be pretty ;) Thank god Path of Exile is starting one month league on Friday. Maybe things will be better next week...
