I'm in India right now, got here few months ago and the city I'm in actually has an Avatar park, very small one of course but it does have statues of the two lead characters.
If only Cameron knew about this, he will probably sue the city.
can you post some source for this? guilin has been one of china's most popular tourist attractions for a very long time, mainly because of the scenery. to say it became one as a result of a movie in 2009 seems highly dubious.
Star Wars as much as I love it doesn't have a wide demographic base between all ages, sexes, or nationalities.
Avatar hit a wide demographic. It had a love story, it was scifi, and was tech vs naturalism. It is also why Titanic did so well. Everyone knows what the Titanic was and making it a love story was icing on the cake.
Star Wars hasn't held the All-Time box office record in a very long time. E.T. beat it in 1982 and kept the domestic record for 15 years. I suppose you could say that Star Wars "reclaimed" the title when you lump in the special edition earnings 20 years after the fact, but that lasted less than a year before Titanic.
As far as I know, two movies from the same franchise have never held the domestic or worldwide crown, so I'm not sure why some fans continue to view that as Star Wars' rightful place.

Hell, I don't know why people think "rightful place" is a concept that has anything to do with box-office totals. Like it's a throne with a line of succession.
