Will Boogie Bomb?

I think the main character design is awful given the target audience (or any audience, for that matter). I think the central target audience would be parents of youngsters, and work outwards from there.

fyi, Nintendo is co-promoting this title in several channels

That's doesn't guarantee success at all. Third party sales for Wii games haven't been that great since the launch (let's be real for once), and when you add in that this is a new IP...eh we'll see.

I want it to do good, but I fear for its sales...the art direction may push back a lot of people, but I find it to be very charming. :D

Quality of the third party games for Wii haven't been that great either.

With Capcom/EA and a couple others being exceptions.

What third party games have come out in 2007?
Sonic: sold well
Tiger Woods: sold well
Godfather, Scarface, SSX, The Bigs: bomba; the Bigs was a bomba on other platforms too.
Resident Evil: doing great
Cooking Mama, Prince of Persia: ???

I'm not sure. Feeling like it might bomba, but we'll see.

It'll do better in Europe than anywhere else... Singstar has made the market for this thing. I think it needs continent specific track lists though. It could be made to appeal to the UK market more. And it would have to be co-promoted by Nintendo, as they do for several games on Channel 4. If they make a fuss about it, it'll do okay imo.

It seems to play like shit.

I don't see it bringing a lot of fun, it will be murdered by the reviews.

Probably BOMBA.

They've certainly got the hype and the advertising, but the big worry should actually be if the game will suck.

It's been turned around so quickly, there's likely to be problems. Heck, there were interviews only months ago when they were still trying to get the controls.

Massive bomb IMO.

I know you can't pay too much attention to the charts at Amazon...but it's 32 in the Wii chart and 262 in the game charts. Not good for a game due in under a week.

you're underestimating the power of that kind of games

Their powers come from their ability to deliver fun.

If you try Boogie at a friend's and you notice it's not fun at all, you won't buy it. Quite the contrary happened with Wii Sports for example.

It's being heavily advertised, so who knows?
Where? Granted, I don't watch much tv anymore.

"Non-games" usually don't blow their loads in one go.

depends if it grabs the singstar crowd I guess.

This is the key.

I would wager that Boogie will do most of its business in Europe.

It should still crack the top 10 in August NPD though.

Out of the list. Sonic and Resident Evil sold the best. Tigers sold more than the Ps3 one (which is good) and I think Cooking Mama did good as it was close to the top 10 somewhere months back...PoP propably bombed and deserved too :\

Harry Potter propably sold well on Wii too.

So you guys have decided that it's going to bomb because it's $60? Oh, boy. Future posts of GAF: "Well GEEZ, Electronic Ass, what did u expect at 60 ****ING DOLLARS?!!!!!!!"

after watching the VH1 commercials...

The dancing part of the game doesn't strike me as fun; more of a free-for-all wagglefest. Then the singing is the only thing with 'potential', but thats also getting the 'seen that, done that' feeling. But it might still go well, because its the first singstar-clone on the wii; with its image all set for casual gamers. Will probably end up as one of those great party games for all ages. And it has its funky great visuals/style to boot.

i'm gunna need a towel

wow.. what a bad, bad, bad, bad advert.

As for the game, I bet it sells like hot cakes. Wii + Gimmick + EA = $$$

It will be a major hit here in Europe where people just love the Singstar series.

that's like saying any football game will be a hit in the US just because people love the Madden series

Even as a unique an original Wii effort I can't help but think that Boogie won't perform as well as many of us would like to see.
Just out of curiosity, why would you like to see it perform well? Do you even know if it's any good?

IF THIS SELLS WELL THIRD-PARTY DEVELOPERS MAY ACTUALLY DEVELOP INTERESTING GAMES FOR THE WII LOLLO

I'm going with bomba! but I could also see a slow burn to success. Whatever the case, people expecting big NPD numbers 1st month will probably be dissapointed.

i would say the name "boogie" is incredibly stupid and unappealing to casual gamers. i mean, come on, "boogie?"

Hey now. :(

1. I typically like games people think look dumb
2. Boogie looks dumb, even to me.

...Yeah, well.....you look dumb. :P

I don't really think they've advertised this properly, so I don't expect immediate success.

However, if the game is decent that may spread by word of mouth and it might have several successful months following release.

The songlist could have been better but there are still a quite a few gems in there.
But you have to account for people who only want to hear "safe" nonthreatening music they are familiar with. Tunes they've heard a million times before.
Which from my experience is 90% of all people (90% of all people are morons, the long tail and all that).

The art direction isn't kiddie, unless you are one of those morons who think stylization and colours are kiddie, and the "real thing for adults" is realistic, and only that.
The style is good and the character design is great.

I know I was hyped for this game, but seeing how Kohler was dissapointed with it, I decided to buy Strikers instead.

Maybe I will pick it up in september, if final reviews are good. This month is already for Strikers and Metroid.

I think it would have a shot if it released closer to the holidays. Even then, though, it would probably get cannibalized by MySims.

Bomb it will. The visuals are alright but the gameplay fails. EA was still trying to figure out how to use the wiimote a couple months back and it seems like they've settled on random waggle to make your character to random crap... not very fun. Might as well hold your wiimote and watch mtv.
