Using this to ask an unrelated question, wtf happened with lyrics? I heard about the Musixmatch fallout, but they never took down the Lyrics button. It just leads to a blank page on the desktop app now. Seems really broken and unprofessional to just leave that there.

If they ARE trying to get a new lyrics thing, it's taken ridiculously too long, like 2 years now?

They should've never partnered in the first place and just kept Musixmatch as an addon.

Spotify is the only way to stream music on ps4 too.

Spotify is the dedicated Playstation Music app i.e. they are officially one in the same, so it's clear Sony's obtained some form of exclusivity there.

On the flip side, I got a Spotify subscription when it became available on the PS4. Otherwise I probably would've gone with Apple Music given that I own so many of their devices.

I'm surprised Microsoft haven't tried to do something with Apple Music, although I guess those are two companies who have been competitors for decades, and Apple might see it as encroaching on the Apple TV.

Is Tidal any good? That might be an option that MS should look into.

Longer term it'd be harmful for Spotify to keep their apps exclusive to any particular platform and the value of it being exclusive to a particular platform (among a certain class, like consoles) will diminish to the platform holder.

There is probably better ways to stream music while playing games, so you aren't locked to using it on a single console. Get something voice activated like amazon echo. Don't have to take your hands off the controller or go into menus in the console OS to control your music then.

Spotify on PS4 is great. It should be on Xbox One for sure, that exclusivity deal sucks.

I tried Groove and it's great too but Spotify wins because of the free streaming. This is THE major reason why Spotify is so popular, it's free.

I love Soundcloud and it's not on PS4... I mostly listen to underground house and techno music. Playing a mix on Soundcloud while racing in Forza Horizon 3 is amazing. I'd love PS4 to have that.

Overall, exclusive apps is just stupid in this day and age of competing services. They should be everywhere !

It's definitely contractual. Only question is whether or not Sony's terms are good enough to make them think renewing is worth more than branching out to Xbox. They're pretty hard up for cash, apparently, and the guaranteed payout might be worth more than the uncertain number of added subs.

There are workarounds on Xbox One. I use Spoticast and it recently got a much needed UI overhaul. Worth the price and comes with background play.

I'd assume that Apple Music will come when the Windows 10 app for iTunes and Apple Music make their way over. Which would work out great for me as I get a free Apple Music subscription with my mobile phone plan.
