Will Switch function with only one JoyCon?

I'm sending in my left joycon to Nintendo for repairs, but while it's gone for 2-3 weeks, I have a pro controller and Mario Kart on the way. Will I be able to play it with the pro controller if one of the joycons is missing, or will the system recognize its absence and give an error? It would suck for my Switch to be unusable for 3 weeks.

If docked, the Switch doesn't really care about what input you're using unless a game requires it. You can play with a single joycon in any game that supports it, or just with the Pro Controller. Same goes for tabletop mode. Only handheld will have trouble with that.

It's no Wii U, thankfully.

You can make full use of the system with just the Pro Controllee OP.

You just can't physically attach one JoyCon via the rails and use it in a gimped "handheld" mode

Yup! The right one is best because it has a home button but a single joy con can operate the menu and play most games.
