Will the PlayStation 2 remain the finest looking console?

Sexy as hell, especially for a system designed in 1984.

Whoever thought that green and white go well together needs to be shot. Replace the green with either Red, Blue or a golden yellow and you'd have a pretty console. Green only goes nicely with brown and black.

They look good together to me. :/

The redesigned PS2 with the FFXII emblem is very nice looking. I personally think the best looking console so far is the Japanese Saturn. The Revolution looks very nice in pictures.

Okay:

Dreamcast: eh
PS2: looks good. Fits in the best in my entertainment system. The PStwo design is also well done.
GameCube: Convenient, good, small design
Revolution: *fap*
Xbox 360: What the hell is up with the curve? Other than that, it's okay
Xbox: Haha... what an ugly console. So big and not thought out.
PS3: I hear Spider-Man music....

The generation before that, the N64 definitely looked better than the Saturn and the PS1. No question.

SNES (both consoles) definitely looked better than any of the consoles of that time. My only problem were the ones that were faded by cigarette smoke. Yuck.

I think Most other consoles look like toys.
They are toys.

Like a mix between a hi-fi element and some expensive server technology.
You know where they use expensive server technology? At work, that's where. And do you know what they do with it? They process boring crap like orders and pack slips and not kill combos or level ups. Expensive server technology is not for ass kicking. Unless maybe you work at an MMOG company, and then expensive server technology is for being shut down for "scheduled" maintenance. Either way, not what I want in my living room! The Dreamcast says "hey let's have some fun and play Crazy Taxi or Soul Calibur", the PS2 says "hey I'm the one over here that you don't even notice because I look like every other piece of boring home entertainment hardware!"

Are we counting Handhelds now?

Honestly, I have my DC sitting right next to my first model Genny and SNES which are all above my GC, PS2, and Xbox. I'm looking at them right now and they all look like game consoles to me...I can't pick out which is my favorite or the one I like the least because I don't look at them in terms of visual appeal...fuck...the thought very rarely crosses my mind and even when it does creep in I dismiss it because the outward look is so unimportant that I just don't care one way or the other...come to think of it...I'm the same way with game covers, as well, so long as the name of the game is easily read from the spine of the case.

the pstwo is much better looking then the original.

but i think that the gamecube is the best looking aesthetically. one of the most elegant looking consoles ever, and a precusor to their current apple-esque style.

It's lumpy. It looks like three different teams each designed a part of it, and then they just stuck it all together.

*shrugs* Its more or less a rounded PS2. Looks like a wing section to me.

PAL snes was pretty nice lookin, i don't really like the PS2, though i can understand why one would, X360 is quite nice.

You're misinformed. PS2 is by far one of the ugliest. The DC and PC-Engine and even the PSTwo destroy it.

DC ha ha ha it was fun but it was ugly the console not so much but the controller ha ha ha the wires are even upside down.

I really don't think any of the current gen consoles LOOK that great, although the PS2 and GameCube certainly look a whole lot better than the Xbox. I prefer the PS2's design the most simply for its utility factor; it actually fits where I want it to go.

Of the next-gen consoles, Revolution looks the best to me by a long shot. It also looks like it'll easily pick up the convenience category as well because that thing would fit practically anywhere in an entertainment system (unlike my 360 which has to sit outside it since the damn thing is full).

A pretty coat of paint doesn't hide the PS2's fuglyness. Let it go.

I used to like the PS2's looks, but it didn't age so well to me. The black GameCube, the Super Famicom. the Dreamcast, even the 360 seem to be better in their design philosophies.

These two look good I think. I especially like how PS2 looks kinda like 80's stereo equipment. And the Genesis is from the 80's, and it looks kinda hi-tech in it's own way.

if we were considering hanhelds, psp would blow everything away.
the enamel navy DSlite is lot better looking than the PSP.

Honestly, I still prefer the N64 design, overall. I actually thought the PS2 was fugly, and the PStwo was just a shrunken version of the same bloody thing. As opposed to the genius and appealing redesign PSone recieved. (Second favorite console design, btw.)

settle down junior. if you cant admit the psp is a sexy piece of hardware than troll somewhere else. (yes i own the ds and yes im buying the ds lite)
you said it "blew everything away" .... which it does not. Sure, its nice, but I don't think its leagues beyond all other handhelds. And if thats your definition of trolling, then you are pretty sensetive.

PS2 is correct, but not just ANY PS2

pinkps2.jpg

When I was planning to get my Japanese PS2, I considered the Sakura one, because I love pink technology. But then I saw it in person... yikes. Ugly. The shiny pink that they used just doesn't look good, and for god's sake, why did they stick with the blue accents?

I ended up getting the Silver one, which was by far a better choice.

I think the machine looks fantastic, but mainly when vertical. If you actually use the vertical stand, I would say it is easily on the best looking consoles ever created. The PSTwo is right up next to it as well.

Simple design = functional/fine/confident .

Fixed.
what do you want the PS2 to be?? A sculpture relief of Solid Snake's face??

the grebely N64 was a "great" design when we were all 12, and comfortable that our game consoles were toys (and stood up well next to our super-soaker and nurf guns) --
-- there's nothing wrong with a simple aesthetic that boasts the function of a product..
