If they aren't doing a price drop right now, which is when it's most needed, then I doubt we'll see one until next summer. Personally, I think it's suicide to have gone into this holiday season at $400. It pains me to say that, as I love my PS3 and the lack of a cut makes me sad for the future of the PS3. They're screwed if they don't even try to compete on the price front. With most multi platform games looking better on the 360, even if just marginally, and then their console costing twice as much, it's a recipe for disaster.

PSOne was released July 2000, PSTwo was released Sep 2004. The Slim PSThree probably will come out fall 2009. I don't know which major game will come out alone with the console at that time though. GoW3? Delayed KZ2? CoD5?

If you don't want to wait for the slim PSTree, go buy one now.

it's a tricky balancing act - economy is going down and the yen is way way up against EVERY currency. If anything, there might be a mild cut in Japan.

But yeah, possible drop to closer to 85 yen to the $ would make a $100 cut fantasy stuff or commercial suicide (unless sony really do have something ready that drastically cuts the cost of making the PS3 that means $299 is almost break even?)

I am sure sony will reassess in early 2009. If sales data is still good enough for them, why would they cut the price? It's a great value console after all.

I doubt MS is making money with the $200 Arcade. If they sell it for $150. Alot of people including me will just buy one as media extender. MS will never make the money back with games and accessories.

The market says when there is going to be a price cut or not... not some magical date. For example look at Nintendo, why would they do a price cut when they are selling 2 million units a month? If that doesn't slow down they will never have a price cut. PS3 sells were not that great this month, if that trend continues you will see a price cut, simple as that.

I think you will find if you go into any Zavvi store this morning, you will see the following:-

Xbox 360 Arcade - £99.99
Premium - £149.99
Elite - £199.99

PS3 - £269.99

I have just seen a Dummy PS3 box with the above price on and the xbox prices were on a poster.

Now I am not sure if this is just a Zavvi thing... or official price changes. I shall ask when it opens around 9:30 or whatever. I'll be back later after rehearsals.

Microsoft may not be make money with the Arcade, but they would probably flood the market to drown Sony rather than make profit.

The problem is that they are currently letting all of their die-hard supporters slip away onto Xbox 360. Once these people experience stuff like Live, they aren't going to be easy to lure back next gen.

It's not like there isn't demand for the system - every time the two HD systems are close in price, there's very little between them.
