Will we ever see another Yoshi Story? (Was it really a failure?)

That's stupid they are different games, just because Yoshi stars in it doesn't make it a sequel.
Again, a lot of us played the game as a kids, so of course we thought it'd be a sequel to Yoshi's Island.

I always thought it was "Eat apples." ...it fit the theme of the game!

I loved Yoshi's Story as a kid, but then I was about 7 when I played it and I wasn't familiar with Island at all. I haven't played it recently but last time I did I found the controls a little strange, and trying to get every single melon is probably going into the bad kind of OCD territory. I do still enjoy the style of the game (ha, that song :D) and I actually remember the level design being kinda interesting, a lot of levels stick out.

I could definitely understand the disappointment of someone who had played Yoshi's Island first though. I'll agree with YIDS just being 'okay' (baby Donkey Kong aside) and Universal Gravitation is easily up there as one of the worst Nintendo developed games. I'm still kind of amazed they let Artoon make another Yoshi game after that!

No, the world doesn't need a new Yoshi's Story.

It needs YOSHI'S ISLAND 2, a proper sequel, keeping what made the original so fun to play.

Nintendo, for many years, called it Yoshi Island 64, until the game was nearly finished. So yeah, of course we considered a sequel to Yoshi Island.

I really wasn't aware this was a flop. I see all the reviews now say it was too simple but at the time I was young and this game was fun. I wouldn't care for a new one but it has a nice warm and fuzzy place in my gaming history.

"The apple" for me.

same.

I think we all got this under the guise that we were getting Yoshi's Island 2. How wrong we were. How wrong we were.

edit: beaten, but point still stands.

I did not finish Yoshi's Island DS. I have no intention of ever going back to it. That is the textbook definition of "unplayable".
No. That is the textbook definition of "disinterest."

I've enjoyed every Yoshi game to date (including the puzzle ones), but Yoshi's Story was definitely the weakest of the bunch.

It could've been a lot better if Nintendo had made 2 changes:
1. Give each stage a goal - the fruit collecting should have been a bonus like red coins/stars in Yoshi's Island.
2. Let players play through EVERY STAGE in one play-through. I know that it was meant to increase replay value, but I didn't really care for the "6 stages and you're done" design.

Meh I liked the whole "choose your own path" mechanic, I especially loved how you could essentially use it to make your own ending once you were familiar with all the levels....
