I said this in another thread but...what if what MS does just doesn't bother you? DRM: I have never, ever, had a problem with this. Ever. Used games: I don't care. Anti-consumer: Please. Again, this is tiddlywinks. I live on Earth where a government TAKES my money, a city TAKES my money, where insurance companies FORCE me to pay or not be allowed to drive. I think these "problems" for MS are only problems for those that have no other problems in life. Problem? I know, you're young, down with the MAN, stand up for what you believe. I get it. I just imagine a kid running up to me yelling "MS is ANTI CONSUMER!!!!!" I'll tussle your hair, give you fiver and tell you to run off and buy some ice cream. I have real fucking problems to deal with.

I realized after the Xbox One launch that I AM the old man in the club and will have to leave soon.

and im sure they will care

I don't think this sort of attitude is helpful either. There's no reason to encourage people to be apathetic about something they care about. If someone finds a practice egregious, then they absolutely should withhold purchasing the item and voice their discontent as to why they're not buying. I just also happen to stop short of getting carried away with thinking that it's necessary for other to share that belief lest they be considered assholes.

Go home and get your fucking shine box.

I'm very skeptical that there's going to be a material difference in rights management on the PS4 in the first place.

If that happens, then the money I would have spent on Xbox One and PS4 will instead be going into upgrading my PC to be an absolute hellbeast.

Im very passionate about this hobby and if MS is rewarded for what's at the moment, anti-consumer policies, then I will be upset with someone's decision to support the platform.

But like politics, it has zero effect on my personal relationship with said someone. I won't be too much of an asshole; maybe the expression of a strong opinion here and there.

fuck them

Not enough soup in this post.

Perfectly said. As an adult, I agree wholeheartedly.

I have no issues with anything the majority (of those online, at least) are having cholesterol attacks over, my problem is that they only showed Madden and Call of Duty, so I have no software incentive (at this exact moment here) to care about the system, but if they end up showing some games I'm into down the line, I'll happily buy one.

Also, you have the best avatar on the forum.

i agree but what does it change when you clutter message boards with your bs over and over and over again ? you can have your opinion and voice it out openly but stop forcing it on me with passive agressive mumbling.

I hope there is major push back against them since this is negative impacting the entire industry and fucking gamers for years to come, but in the end whether they are or not, supporting Microsoft after what they just announced automatically brands you the worst type of fanboy ever conceived - worse than Nintendo, Sony or Apple fanboys combined.

Typing words on the internet is not forcing anything on you.

I honestly don't care if other people like the Xbox One, but I hate being constantly told I'm overreacting and that more games will somehow make me want to purchase another Microsoft console.

Also if Sony pulls the same shit, I more than likely will just skip next gen altogether as there are plenty of games to play on the handhelds and my backlog is huge enough already.

What is so bad about call of duty? Is it just because its a yearly franchise?
As far as I know is it not very liked for being the embodiment of a "fraternity casual game", the lack of innovation and of course because Activision shows no shame by ripping people off with ridiculous map pack pricing.

Wow, someone managed to spin this into a "I'm old so I don't care about DRM, you younglings!" thing. Lol.

XBOX One users will be the new master race. I can't wait until this fall so I can start spitting on all you peasants. I'm gonna start blocking people without One's. You have nothing to say to me.

Woe is me, the corporate apologist who is "forced" to read words on the internet.

You know, it really sucks to look at it this way, but IF (big if for the moment there), the lines stay as clear cut between Sony and MS as we expect them to be now.. its also a big moral issue. I dont want to support a company breaching privacy, fucking over my customer rights and doing all the other nasty/greedy shit that we currently expect MS to do.

If MS is as anti-consumer as we currently think, then I think its a perfectly valid decision to question peoples decision to support them.

This. We need to draw the line, and we need to let people now what's fucking wrong with them. Now is not the time for apathy.

No matter how you look at it, supporting the xbone IS supporting toxic anti-consumer practices.

I don't think you need to worry OP, emotions are high now but it'll blow over. A few megatons at E3 may help too.

It´s not about a format it´s about people supporting anti gamer/anti consumer garbage out of blind fanboyism. And yes they deserve to be shunned.

lol like anyone on here gives two shits what you think.

I was more commenting he's praising the Xbone, which flat out stops you from sharing with others, and saying we must not like to share our hobby.
I was referring to the console doing more than play games. This board would probably prefer if it just played hardcore games. The fact is that my wife has enjoyed the Kinect, and I even enjoy the voice commands in the dashboard. Many others enjoy all the video content. When MS shows this stuff at the conference then all of a sudden gamers are abandoned even though they specifically said that a lot more gaming focused content would be at e3.

its also rich coming from him. in the short amount of time i visited this board i saw a lot of posts which make him look exactly like the type of person he describes in the post you quoted.

I dunno if I'd go that far (nevermind there must've been some Sony nutjobs that defended the patents they cooked up), but this IS a very different battle from most console battles. Most of those are childish "my system has better games!" or at best there really are some irksome qualities/policies of one or the other (games rejected by SCEA, Microsoft mandating DLC be charged for.) But this is much more a rights or philosophical argument, it doesn't even REQUIRE clear preference for one company over the other, just distaste over this specifically.

And what if everyone on Earth only thought about what was negatively impacting them in that very second, never considering the long-term implications or that one day you'll be in thew same boat as everyone else? It's a true kind of selfish when someone is willing to fuck the entire industry because, incidentally, you currently don't borrow games or rent games a lot. You may have a super powerful and reliable internet, and then maybe one day you won't, and you'll be sitting there wondering why you traded in rights afforded to you since the birth of this industry for a fucking quick fix.

Your analogies to auto industry and taxes is complete garbage, because NOT getting car insurance negatively impacts everyone around you - if you get in a crash, you fuck a completely innocent person. Because NOT paying taxes would lead to ruined roads, less police force and firefighters, less infrastructure we require to run business. In other words, not doing those things FUCKS EVERYONE AROUND YOU, just like buying into Xbox One's horrible fucking system. Don't try to equivocate with such bullshit because you don't like what you're hearing.

Anyone who does this is pretty sad. Everyone wants to keep making lines in the sand and feel better about themselves for being on the 'right' side, eventually it makes you look crazy.

If you get to the point where you are shunning anyone who owns it, you might as well write down every name who contributes to the diablo 3 thread, simcity, etc. and eventually ignore everyone. You can't plug your ears and shout and make the XB1 go away, it's a real product that is going to come out with what's looking like a solid lineup of initial support. Where it goes from here is anyone's guess, but shunning fellow gamers isn't going to do a damn thing.

I'll get one if MS makes some good games (Rare, Lionhead, Halo, Crackdown?) Won't be buying multiplatform titles or pay for Live, though.

Edit: Definitely gonna get a Wii U first.

That would be like hitting my dog for eating a bar of chocolate. She didn't know any better. She lacks the mental capacity to know any better, or care.

Sony is going to do the same shit guys. The pc elitist high horse is going to be even higher. Which I'm fine with since I'm also a pc gamer... but i really enjoy consoles as well. :/

They'll be treated like those fucking prawns in District 9.

Instead of prawns... they will be called

Xboners

More relief... At a roundtable this morning, Sony's game studios chief, Shuhei Yoshida, told reporters that any requirement for users to register a game online in order to play it would be left to game publishers. Sony won't require that.

I have a hard time seeing you being an old man, because if you were, then there would be games that are older than 10 years old that are precious to you. The Xbone's DRM is a service. The cloud is a service. And anything that requires these things to operate will no longer work when these services are turned off, fail, or otherwise cease to exist.

Every game on the Xbone has the potential to be a precious game to somebody that they will never get to revisit. And if you were truly the old man in the room, you'd realize what a horrible, terrible future that will be.

I think all gamers are united in the view that Microsoft"s twelve year plan to dryfuck us is finally in its final stage, and they are an existential threat to the industry we grew up with. This goes beyond just simple "get that dudebro shooters trash out. If Microsoft succeeds, we will ALL be paying bullshit online paywalls, used game "activation" fees, "personalized " ads, more absurd DLC, shooters galore, fucked up DD, etc.

This goes beyond fanboyism. This threatens our hobby's very existence.

I don't buy used games, and I don't resell my games.
My internet connection is fairly reliable. I've had far, far more power outages than internet outages, and my internet outages have never lasted longer than a few hours.
I rarely borrow games, and loan my games occasionally. Microsoft has already announced that they have plans to continue allowing for this.

I just don't see how any of the policies which have GAF up in arms would affect me. People who are affected by these policies should of course look elsewhere, but I'm not going to base my purchasing decisions on what affects them.

What does bother me is Microsoft's practice of putting features which should be free behind the Live paywall - most notably media features like Netflix or HBO Go. If this continues, I will probably skip the One and look into either a PS4 or an HTPC. My desktop PC will almost certainly remain my primary gaming platform; I don't see how any of the new consoles could replace it.

I think it'll all come back to normal once the consoles are released. As of now though, the Xbone is definitly not for me, i just accepted the fact that i'm no longer the target consumer Microsoft are chasing.

If Microsoft don't save their asses at E3, i'm not touching the console and GAF will not be cool towards Microsoft.

They can still come up with some amazing surprises, i hope for more Japanese games, tired of the same strategy of COD-Sports-Racers, but i'm not sure anymore.

I fucking hope the system wars bullshit dies down. There is one thing having a big problem with the Xbone and trying to tear down anyone who does like it.
GAF really went down the toilet the past few days..

Feels like the gamespot forums or something. Just filled with fanboys.

Not too long ago, most of the people in here would've been banned for the blatant trolling.

Really hope things improve.....
