Wind Waker is the best game Nintendo has ever made

250px-PMTTYD.jpg

This is for me the best Nintendo game. I hope one day they create another game like this.

Brother ;(

One day...one day.

To elaborate on my earlier post.

This is the WW world map:

This is litereally what it would be if you cut out all the non-essentials. As in you could still beat the game if the map was only the size below:

Maybe if the sidequests were more fun, and more islands were actually traversable, but since most "islands" were in fact just areas to drive-by, no one gave a shit. You can't even land on something like 12 of the islands.

Edit: just thinking about the math, I just shaved off 33 squares there... Literally 2/3rd of the whole map.

I love the look of the game, and of course the sound is great, but I'm going to have disagree with you OP. The Earth and Wind Temples (and arguably the Tower of the Gods) are bogged down by having to constantly conduct to command Makar and Medli, which completely killed the pace.

I never saw the appeal of treasure hunting, but that could just be me.

It's a great game OP but not Nintendo's best ever. That would go to, IMHO, Ocarina of time if for no other reason than it was so revolutionary. More so than Mario 64.

It's not even the best Zelda game
Mario Galaxy 2 is the best game they have ever made

That's a funny way of spelling Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Mario Galaxy
1
and Super Metroid, respectively.

Mario Galaxy 2 is a top tier game, but nearing its end it burnt me on the Galaxy formula.

Wind Waker is great. Its lovely, it plays really well, and the MUSIC! That ARTSTYLE!

But I disagree. Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 together comprise the greatest high of Nintendo in my opinion.

I liked that game but the end part was too tedious for me. Also the boat was fun but annoying after a while.

The best Nintendo games for me are in that order:
A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Super Metroid, SM3DW, Pikmin 3, Metroid Prime, SMW, Zelda TP

PS: I haven't played yet some major stuff like SMG, SMG2 and Skyward Sword.

I agree with this to a large extent. Together, they are sort of the culmination of everything Nintendo stands for as a developer.

I wouldn't even consider it top 25 material. Aesthetically I think it's great, and the story is probably the strongest in the series following Majora's Mask, but it was a blatantly incomplete product, with piss easy difficulty, and the pacing is horrible. It also ushered in an era of mind numbingly tedious overworlds which have been lingering around the series like a rotten fart ever since.

Actually, I'm not even sure I'd consider it top 50 for Nintendo. I'd have to think on it...

3D Zeldas rated:

1. OOT
2. MM
3. TP
4. SS
5. WW

I'd put SS equal to WW, but I more or less agree with this.

Too much fetch-questing and tedium in Wind Waker. Ocean felt empty. I love it (especially the first half of the game), but it felt like an unfinished game and even the remaster couldn't shake that feeling for me.

Wind Waker isn't even the best Zelda game, let alone best Nintendo title.

It's a fantastic game but I'm more inclined to give that title to SMG, Metroid Prime, Majora's Mask or Smash Melee.

Wind Waker is a great game... but it's actually not even a very good Zelda game... The first half of the game is amazing, the second half of the game is a slog. HD only shortened the slog, but it didn't make it any less of a slog.

Though I'd probably be unable to choose between WW and SS. One had the much better exploration whereas the dungeons stank, and the other had some great dungeons while the rest was meh. I think I'd go with WW at 4, close call though.

It's pretty good. If you wanted to claim it is that gens most timeless game, or most charming game, sure. But I think some of the early/ late game pacing and the dungeon design are not the best. I think Ocarina is the best Zelda. My favorite Nintendo game is Earthbound, Mother 3 or KI Uprising, but the BEST is probably Super Mario World or Smash Melee.

It's a tough decision but I rank Wind Waker as the best Zelda game. Even thinking about it now makes me nostalgic as hell. The music was amazing, the graphics were beautiful and the Great Sea is one of the best overworlds in gaming. Imagine what it would have been like if they never cut stuff out!

Its a very fun game and exploration through sailing is great. Though I kind of wished there were bigger islands rather than one significant location per map square.

I love Wind Waker, but it's a rushed game and you can really tell. My favourite Nintendo game is Majora's Mask, Super Mario Galaxy 2 is probably second.

One thing this thread shows is that Nintendo regularly makes absolutely outstanding games. Their longevity and consistency is remarkable.

Wind Waker is a very good game, but it wouldn't crack my top 5 best Zelda games. Oh, and then there's quite a few Mario and Metroid games that I think are better than WW.

WW's flaws:
- Way too easy...it's one of the easiest games I have EVER played.
- Not enough dungeons. The cut content hurt the game.
- Sailing was neat at first, but its implementation eventually became tedious
- Triforce piece hunting is tedious and unfun

WW's positives far outweigh its negatives, but coming from the outstanding OoT and MM, I was ultimately a bit disappointed in the game.

I love Windwaker and it was the game that got me into the Zelda series but the game is woefully undercooked and rushed and the HD "remaster" only highlight it even more.

I still enjoy the game and I still highly rank it but I keep wondering what the true Windwaker would have been like.

What? It's a wonderful game but best Nintendo game ever made? In terms of overall quality, polish and craftsmanship, it's not even the best GameCube game ever made.
Metroid Prime, obviously

There's more than a few reasons the Wind Waker HD remake exists.

This one's also a joke, right?
Certainly not, Skyward Sword has the most densely designed overworld (not interconnected, but that's superficial anyway, the OoT overworld also has areas that are strictly separated, having a few doors between areas does not change that in a mechanically meaningful way), the best puzzles, everything in SS is there for a gameplay reason and everything is cleverly laid out. It and Majora's Mask are also the only 3D Zeldas where the overworld is not boring, with Wind Waker being the crown jewel of boredom in the overworld among the Zelda games.

It's good, but aside from presentation and a few minor story bits it's got nothing over the other 3D Zeldas. Far and away the worst overworld along with consistently weak dungeons. Any tough combat encounter quickly turned into a parry fest. Even Twilight Princess, as easy as that was, at least managed to have some combat challenge when fighting multiple Darknuts.

Add two more dungeons and make the Command melody a button press rather than a song and you're right.

Other than the lack of dungeons and the dumb one-two punch of command melody focused dungeons, it is indeed remarkable.

It's personally one of my favorite Zelda games, and I've played almost everything in the series that isn't on the CDi, but Wind Waker had some pretty lame dungeons.
