It has little to do with gaming, Windows Live is Microsoft's attempt at making Internet-based services. So, for example, you can go to some website and use Word from any Internet connection.

I see. Guess they want customer overall to recognise it as an online service aslong as it got Live behind it.

It's in direct competition with Google. Google plans on launching a $200 computer system that works with only their online services. It's mainly a terminal that connects to the internet and you run all your apps on Google's website.

It's almost embarrasing watching MS trying to keep up now.

Not sure about this running Word from any Internet connection... I was messing around with the Live Beta yesterday, and it appears to be Microsoft's take on Google's homepage. You can pull RSS feeds, customize the page with weather... supposedly stocks, but I haven't been able to find the gadget yet for that. It's VERY EARLY. Be warned.

It looks like it might be cooler than Google homepage in the long run, but my RSS feeds don't seem to be pulling up any headlines for some reason. I have a cool gadget that shows my gamercard. I can also have a list of names. When I click on their name, I see their gamercard and can call up all their achievements on the Live website to compare with my own. It runs incredibly fast, so that's pretty cool.

Has anyone had any luck getting the RSS news feeds to work on Windows Live? I have gamespot, IGN, Reuters, and ESPN, but it doesn't look like they're pulling any headlines. Do I need to activate them or something? They're already permanently on my Live page. Or is it just so early this feature isn't working yet?
