I just got my HTC 7 Pro, holy shit this has to be the best built phone I have ever had, so damn solid and fully metal (apart from the keyboard).

I signed in with my XBL account (which I also use for Messenger) when my phone asked me. But I do not want my Hotmail account anywhere near my phone, am I able to change the e-mail accounts (or even just use my g-mail and work accounts together?)

edit: nevermind found I can get rid of features from that account, awesome.

Oooh the task switcher looks nice. I like the address bar at the bottom in IE9. I'll be back to WP7 when Mango arrives. Hopefully they have unlocked phones with tetherin available by then. In the meantime, no successor to the ZuneHD?

Go to Settins -> Email & Accounts. You should be able to add any accounts you want. As well as remove the hotmail.

Holy crap, I can't wait to get home and watch this video. This all sounds unreal, I would never have expected this much in one year at the rate they've been going so far (i.e. no where).

I'm so happy I jumped to WP7 right now.

It'll force you to put your live contacts in, but you don't have to have the e-mail from hotmail if you don't want it. Just edit the account and uncheck "e-mail" and it will remove the hotmail inbox.

I just have gmail and my exchange e-mail on the device

Thanks guys, my God this interface is so slick and fast. Such a breath air after using iOS and Android. I am in love.

Amazing way to separate the different e-mail clients. and it synced both of my calendars from work and google mail perfectly.

Looking at the liveblog, it seems they’re using a similar implementation of the multitasking APIs in iOS 4 like background audio, app suspension, and fast app switching.

If that’s so, I’m wondering about their implementation for their webOS-like task switcher. Would it show all apps that are suspended in memory? Would there be a limit to how many it would show because I don’t think they would want users swiping through 20 different apps.

Any word on background location/GPS, VoIP, local notification, or task completion? Looks like a good update though.

I guess it's a bit too early and they don't know the limitations yet. We should know more next month at MIX11.

WTH with WP7 and Kinect interaction.

It does look similar to ios in the way it works (they mentioned battery life specifically) but webos in the way it displays (but the tiles do not look live but a screenshot of the last position the app was on). It's a good enough solution for me and a nice balance to preserve battery life.

Nothing on the other api's.

Yeah, that stuff is probably better saved for a more developer focused event

Edit: Boo at nothing regarding new hardware

I am just questioning why they were specific to Kinect instead of the 360 in general. Seems like that would have been a far more news worthy announcement. I mean, in a round about way, it does say that it can interact with the 360, but it just seemed strange to limit it to Kinect.

EDIT: Changed to make my post start out less like an ass towards you.

I agree. Some people prefer the Android or webOS way of managing running apps, but I’m a fan of letting the OS do it on its own. The main multitasking API that’s missing on iOS for me is just a background internet connection/socket one. IRC apps get around this on iOS by using the task completion API which allows a background internet service for 10 minutes at time. (It’s really meant for things like Dropbox syncing)

I just pointed it out for others and it was just a short tech demo with something people already know. That doesn't mean it will be the only connectivity we'll see and it's still MWC and not GDC or E3, where we'll see more of that interaction between the platforms.

There were 2 things missing I was hoping for:

They had nothing on any new games (even if they showed the ones from ces they should have shown some newer games coming out in the next few months)

Was really hoping when they talked about the hubs they would have announced a few new ones..... really would love to see a news & sports hub as well as a local one.

awesome so the two big things that people seem to say that WP7 is missing (C&P, Multitasking) are coming this year.

But it's always the same question with Microsoft: We know we'll get new things and it will be cool, but WHEN?!

Microsoft demoed the hardware acceleration of IE9 on WP7 against Safari on the iPhone 4 with iOS4. By the time we'll get that update, Apple already released the iPhone 5 with iOS5 and an updated version of Safari, that probably includes hardware acceleration as well. All before MS pushed out that update they demoed today.

I would like to be able to use it (Zune/Marketplace) here in Denmark. But there's a workaround to get it to work, so it't not that big of a deal.

I agree. Whenever Apple announces new things at during annual conference, they are usually available in days (or that very day). MSFT announcing all these cool WP7 features is awesome, but things need to be released now, not "end of March or 2011".

That hasn't typically been the case for iOS. Some of the stuff that they announced with OS 4.0 didn't see the light of day until 4.1 and 4.2 came out.

I decided a few days ago that I was switching to WP7 when I change networks in a few weeks(and while i wait for the new WebOS phones). The WebOS like multi tasking is a nice bonus.

I had a similar thought.

The fall update will make the phone basically feature complete and feature competitive with iOS and Android and maybe a little better in some regards, but that's a current comparison of iOS and Android to the future WP7 update. Granted I'll admit it was nice to see this shit up and running which means it's gotta be moving right along so I won't freak out that it'll hit in 2012. LOL

The point stands though that Google and Apple aren't just gonna stand still. The key here IMO is just what they do with their updates this year. IMO I know people still have loyalties, but if say Apple just does minor feature updates to iOS this year like the browser update then while they might be ahead by a few months as soon as the WP7 update hits they become feature par with a much better interface than either device.

If Apple and Google start pushing new shit like NFC and Apple redesigns the UI a bit for notifications and stuff then uh oh we are back to the same problem again. A lot of this all depends on just what the other two big companies do, and how fast MS can get the 2nd update out.

On a separate note 3 things I wish for...

1st they need to update the Zune on the phone itself with better podcast management.

2nd and 3rdly I wish the integration of FB and Twitter was handled in a way that it was more feature complete so I wouldn't need an app. I like the F integration, but it comes off as cool at 1st but clumsy over time. It's like can I do this from what I have or do I need to use the app for this?

Obviously in the same vein I hope twitter doesn't become like this. Twitter has less shit you do though by design so it might be easier to create.

any news on flash?... I missed the conference :(

I missed the conference as well, but read over Engadget's blog. They said MS kept saying the complete web experience, but never said flash directly. Everything they harped on was all HTML5.

Hi guys, so I did us a solid and found out what the deal is with the camera app: its definitely intended to reset every time, its not a bug. It won't be fixed in the upcoming update, though if we whine enough they'll change it. I'm actually pretty happy i got to the bottom of that, Though it was not the answer I wanted, at least I got an answer.

The reasoning is that they want a consistent experience everytime you open up the camera app.

Now that you mention it, I can see that.

When you're using the camera in a different session entirely, the conditions you're shooting in are likely to have changed.. so you'd probably want to re-adjust them anyway.

i think a nice compromise would be if they allowed users to set defaults for certain values in a settings application for the camera.. like default video shooting to 720p, or default flash to being off, etc. Then they could still have a consistent user experience.. it would just be with the user's desired settings as a starting point.

I'm not sure if every FB feature should be integrated in the OS. I'm pretty happy with the integration right now and I can do the most important stuff without opening the app. Check peoples feeds, like/unlike, view pictures, comment, upload stuff. I don't miss anything as far as integration goes. I even had to take out/unlike Engadget on FB, because it kinda vomited over my "what's new" feed (same reason I won't use Twitter in the people hub). They really should concentrate on improving the official app they built. Add live tile and push notifications for new messages and requests for example.

And Flash ... yeah, it doesn't seem to be that important anymore. Adobe announced Flash 10.2 today.

They didn't mention WP7 in the announcement, but it's still a small footnote in the press release.

Flash Player is available today on Android, HP webOS and Google TV. BlackBerry Tablet OS, future versions of Windows® Phone, LiMo, Samsung SmartTVs and others are also expected to support Flash Player.

So I guess it's still on the roadmap.

well this is interesting:

In addition to this, the Windows Phone Blog offers a few more details:

Windows Phone 7 represents the best from Microsoft including Xbox LIVE, Office, Bing, Hotmail and Windows Live, adding to that deep integration of third party experiences like Facebook as well as thousands more from developers.

Notice that he doesn’t mention Zune there. At all. The word doesn’t appear once in this entire post, actually.
and in the comments:
Paul Thurott said:
Yeah, I don’t believe Zune will completely disappear until Windows 8.

The Zune brand is going away. Not the functionality.

I think the Zune brand is unknown by most and disliked by most who are aware of it. I agree it’s a good set of products and services and in many ways superior to the iTunes stuff. But Windows and Xbox are much better brands in that people are broadly aware of them and in positive ways.

To be fair, it’s hard to make a new brand succeed in the face of a dominant player in that market. They got off to a bad start and never recovered.

The Zune stuff will continue. But I was told the brand will not, and that with certain low-volume/no-revenue aspects of it–podcasts, for example–getting them to do anything is like pulling teeth because there’s no explicit advantage.

LOL we think alike. I took Engadget out of my FB and Twitter feeds this weekend cause of that reason.

On the FB note though what if you want to just post something on someone's wall? Not comment on their post, but leave them a note? That's not crazy functionality IMO, but I can't currently do that.

You can do that, I just figured it out this morning. You have to go their profile (in the people hub), then scroll down to "write message on wall" under Facebook.

In terms of who to bitch at, try the wp7 dev team blog. That's how I got my camera app settings question answered.

You can do that from their contact entry.

It has a "Write on wall" option.

Makes sense that Zune would go away. Just like Vista the Zune brand did all the heavy lifting, took the hits and all of the new tech it polished and stabilised will be used by a new brand.

You have that WP7 longer than I do. :lol

Go to the people hub
tap on a contact that's linked with a FB account
tap on "write on wall"
????
Profit!

I might be an ass, but at least I'm an informative ass!

I recommend you guys to follow Rafael Rivera's Twitter feed (@WithinRafael). You can get info like
Confirmed Windows Phone 7 update 1 was delayed for carrier/OEM reasons, not OS.

~ @RowdyBullGaming You'll see Sprint/WP7 in first two weeks of March w/ WP7 update. (HTC 7 Pro confirmed)

@DrPizza A final WP7 U1 ROM for Sprint/HTC7 Pro is out. The OS matches the emulator build from long ago. No OS changes == carrier/oem delays

For any of you who missed the keynote:
http://www.mobileworldlive.com/tv.asp?id=346

So you CAN do that. LOL

I thought so cause I SWORE I had done that before, but wanted to do that again this weekend. I couldn't figure out how to for the life of me. I was on the next screen over though actually looking at their wall and not on their contact page. I think I figured you'd do it from the other pane. I probably saw it before, and just hit write on wall without committing to memory. LOL

Oh yeah and remind me that I also need to bitch to MS about the fact that they said carriers wouldn't have control of the updates, but it appears you know carriers have control of the updates.

Thank god.

It's asinine that I have Windows Media Center, Windows Media Player, and Zune all on my computer. One program that does all the above please!

In the old windows phone 7 thread, I did say that the updates wouldn't work like ms described in terms of the carriers having no say and I got talked down. Now that the delay cause has proven to be the carriers, I get to say "I told you so", then cry about still not having the update.

This more than ANYTHING we've heard in a while about WP7 is the most troubling...
