Don't know if this has been posted, but Kotaku isn't liking the game much:
But as I hacked my way through the Xbox 360 game's first six hours of the single player campaign — putting me at about half-way through, according to the game's own Stats ticker — I began to wonder what it was the team was doing with its time. Too Human seems surprisingly unpolished for a game that's been in some form of development for a decade, one due to be released in less than two months. Granted, the letter that accompanied our preview copy of Too Human did warn that our pre-release build was not "final retail code" and may have gameplay bugs that "will be addressed in the final retail game."

That was certainly taken into consideration as I completed Too Human's first two chapters, but some of the core issues I had with the game aren't the kinds of things that will likely be ironed out in the final thrust of development.

Damn Silicon Knights, what happened? :( Could the guiding, reassuring velvet gloved iron hand of Nintendo been that important to Eternal Darkness' success?

Theres a new Video diary on the marketplace. Im watching it now, the graphics are really nice, cant hate on that but dam its only 2 player co-op.

The reason people play these type of games isn't because the cutscenes are so cool, or the story is so captivating. It's because of the upgrading, playing with friends, and getting new armor. Maybe a demo will show the meat of this game. I'd hate to see a studio that's been working on a game for 10 years get little out of putting so much care into a product for the target audience. There are few games out other than the old diablos that can fill the gap until diablo 3.

I love the fact that most, if not all of the deaths in the cinematic intro... are not there.

The camera just happen to look away as
the soldiers get chomped on or those buzzsaw things kill those civilians.

Huh, maybe it's better that the co-op doesn't have any cutscenes :/

In any case, my initial knee-jerk reaction at the loss of 4p and co-op story is gone. I'm looking at this game purely from a gameplay/dungeon crawler perspective, in which it certainly has potential. I'm hoping the dual analog/action-arcade elements carry well throughout the whole game, and that the enemy design is diversified enough. I do have interest in the various classes - champion, bioengineer, commando. Seems like they'd provide fairly varied playthroughs.

At this point, either the demo will impress me thoroughly and my buddy and me will pick it up early, or we may wait until the bargain bin.

10 years in development and a lot of posturing and BS, who knew it'd be a failure? :lol :lol :lol

Failure? This is the most apt comedy piece in gaming history! From the animations themselves to Dyack's extensive professional PR work. Truly a master-stroke and undeniable proof that games are art good sir!

Of course, I see the error of my ways now. :D

I honestly just want this game to fucking come out, so everyone can blow their load and hopefully more or less get over it. I'm echoing the Assassin's Creed sentiment, I think opinions are going to be all over the place. It seems like the story and cinematics are going to be a total bust, I'm hoping the gameplay is good enough to justify 2-player only co-op. Where's that demo?

Deciding to be "Against" now is like betting on the outcome of a soccer game after it has already begun and you notice that one team plays without a goalkeeper.

:lol

Also this is so delicious I can't not post it - my friend (who still has the game preordered) saw the opening cinematic at GT, and called me and asked me if it was from the Xbox 1 version, and which one was I thinking about getting :lol :lol . Seriously Denis, I hope the game is good, I WANT to like it, but that opening is just fucking embarrassing. That better not be indicative of the rest of the cutscenes, but from the videos linked in this thread it's not looking good.

Best thread on GAF in ages.

Dyack must be a HUGE fan of GAF to have laid the comedy set-up so perfectly with that other thread.

Bear Armour for the win!

Ugh, ten hours - I don't mind. Plenty of good games out there that long, and it sounds like there's gameplay longevity. And if they'd told a good story in ten hours, I'd be fine with it even more. But it sounds like they haven't.

And then I watch these videos...

Denis, you're making it pretty hard to be FOR. I just went from reasonably excited to cautiously optimistic.

ED was good, but it had its flaws. SK seemed to take the weakest part of ED (the combat) and built an entire game around that. It seems like SK were in over their heads.

Ughh after looking at those videos...now I officially hate the art design. It looks just plain ugly. There are no redeeming factors.

..SK needs to fire their art and animation team. A good game concept seems to be ruined by these folks.

There's certainly zero upperbody animation. When guys run, their chest should sway, but they stay stiff like a rock.

Wait, so this is the first part of a trilogy? And it took them TEN YEARS to make the first ten hours of said trilogy?

I'm sure this one will be worth it.

It worked for Rare. (Let's ignore Star Fox Adventures for now)

That means, unless you're of the self-healing BioEngineer class, you might die. You might die a lot. My character, Shin, has died 23 times in six hours. That's 23 times I've had to watch the rather long, unskippable scene of a gleaming white Valkyrie descend from the heavens and revive me. Good thing there is almost no tangible penalty to death... or is that a bad thing?

It seems the penalty for dying is having to watch a cinematic. Seeing the reaction here it might just be enough.

Why can't these types of games have either have a penalty for poor play or a reward for skilled play? There should be something to fear of dying. Have a a weapon or piece of armor get dented, cracked, and finally broken. If you make it through without dying give the character a luck bonus for the next round.

You know, I might buy this for the comedic aspect. This is like Enchanted Arms, right? It's meant to be funny, right?

That SILICON KNIGHTS ENGINE is just amazing. Kojima is crying himself to sleep at night confirmed.
the sillicon knights engine does not allow for motion capture, as mocap was not invented when too human went into development*

Not really, it probably took them 3 or 4 years to develop in UE3 (around the time Epic were done with the engine) for the 360.

The concept exsisted for 10 years, and they tried making it before on other consoles but it never worked out.

Also the sound effects are so weak sauce. Ugh. That stock female scream in the second cinematic made me roll my eyes.

Good god...

I mean seriously.

At this point, that Nietzsche quote should really be stricken from Western civilization. You can't use it any context. I wonder if Nietzsche scholars hate it too.

Human Beings show emotion, not robots. Just a thought that might play into the story of why his face is still, and not showing anger or something.

The more I look at the cinematics, the more I throw up inside.

Seriously, Baldur is the most generic of all generic bald space marines. He even moves like an action figure, with vacant expressions on his face.

I don't know whether the "gameplay" will make up for it, but the cutscenes are already making me cringe.

Bullshit. He clearly narrows his eye (when he looks at the robot holding that bearded guy)and shows shock at some points in the fight. Also he is part human, so there is no reason you can justify the vacant stares for the bulk of the fight.

Clearly, SK's animation team didn't do a great job... and it freaking shows everywhere.

Kojima Productions pretty much made a ground up engine for PS3 in 4 years.

Why couldn't SK ditch whatever crap they're using and started mocap.

the stiff animations too. they walk like robots.

Hahahaha, oh my God

I sort of feel bad for laughing so much at this thread, but holy shit

I would also, except the second part of that video was shown at last years E3, and most people who saw it did say it was really poorly done. Now here we are a year later and nothing has been improved.

From E3 2007: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21528.html

Nothing has changed despite poor response from the audience. I mean, you shouldn't ignore constructive criticism.

?

My thoughts that it has nothing to do with the story and everything to do with the horrible mocap software. Why are you spinning this anyway? You could easily make a case that the combat/other things could be better, but trying polish a big flaw into something that was "intentional" doesn't help things.
