I wonder how Logan will hold up as the movie isn't the typical super hero fare and those who did go see it were above the typical teenage groups. Even reading the comics and more I thought I knew what to expect and in some ways wasn't surprised, in other ways with the overall tone being pretty damn consistent I definitely was surprised.

How is that even allowed? I remember Red Letter Media joking about the number of kids who were in their showing of Deadpool as well. Here in the UK if a film is rated 18 it means that no-one under 18 is allowed in to see it. Does the 'R' rating allow younger people into the showing provided they're accompanied by an adult?!

Pretty much, but some chains have started a "no kids under X years old" policy in the past few years. I know the Regal Cinemas chain doesn't allow 6 and under.

I thought Creed was well-acted and directed but the script being so generic and predictable from the start brings it down a lot.

First actually good dc movie in years? Lego Batman starts strong but gets pretty damn derivative and played out after the half way mark

I'm having a hard time calling it better than tdkr or BvS even.

My statement is referring more to general reviewer consensus than the film's quality/amount of flaws. Not saying Lego Batman doesn't have problems, but critical reception does makes it the first major DC film that was widely well-received since 2012's TDKR.

I'm making a list
And checking it twice
Gonna find out
Who I gotta punch in the face for talking shit about Creed

Yep

Paulies sex robot >>> the bike scene in creed where it looks like a mentally ill man is being bullied and intimidated by a Philly bike gang

But still creed is definitely better than Rocky 3-5, as much as I enjoy them (well I don't like 5 much but I'll still gladly watch it when going through the whole series)

R means parents if you are under 17. NC-17 is the no kids 17 and under rating, but that got turned into the softcore porn rating so most theatres refuse to show anything rated NC-17.

The entire MPAA rating system in the US is dumb though. The Kings Speech was rated R.

And mind blown at the Rocky IV shade. Creed works far better if you've seen Rocky IV and know that while they're being solemn about it the specifics behind what happened to Apollo are so ludicrous.

No it doesn't.

Creed works in spite of the fact it's spinning off of a story beat from a complete turd of a movie—A sweaty, ridiculous, braindead, coked out collection of jingoistic half-formed thoughts and empty imagery. Not because of it.

It's fucking trash. Trash can be fun to watch (although Rocky IV isn't that, either) but it's pure garbaggio as a movie, as a cliched '80s movie, and especially as a Rocky movie.

(I swear we've ruined at least one B.O. thread with this in 2017 already, right?)

Nah rocky 4 is really fun to watch, trash but fun nonetheless. You have no soul if the sound of Paulie falling in the snow doesn't make you crack up or seeing rocky train in the harsh elements doesn't make you stand up and salute

Why is no one talking about la la land ? +400M worldwide on a 30M budget is amazing. I haven't seen this in a while. When was the last time a movie with a budget under 40M made so much money WW ?

Split.

$9 million budget.

$240 million Worldwide box office.

The flash of the ref in that GIF looks like George W Bush every time I see it.

Yes

Why is that an issue? My brother (and definitely a bunch of kids in his grade) have been watching Walking Dead for years

Get Out weekend actual: $28,236,285.

Only a 15% drop. Considering the genre, it's the most impressive second weekend for a film since Avatar imo. Sometimes second weekend holds can be a bit misleading, but as I mentioned in the last thread, a couple more drops of 20% or less and this is hitting $200M.

I had a feeling it would outperform that estimate, but not by that much. Holy crap. It was down 9% Saturday, 12% Sunday. 0_o

Yeah, a 15% drop is batshit crazy. I'm so happy about it.

Beauty and the Beast has been heading toward a ridiculous OW for weeks now.

I'm more curious about its legs at this point.

I wonder if Logan can avoid a 50% drop this weekend. It's Sunday take was actually 500k more than Friday sans previews, which is pretty damn remarkable for a superhero film especially when the X-men films in general have shown more erosion on OW than the Marvel flicks. I'm beginning to think Kong will miss $40M this weekend, but it's still taking IMAX screens, so that will unfortunately be a hit to Logan.

Alice, Oz, and Cinderella all had 2.9-3.0 multipliers. Beast is opening out of the gate with a lot more hype, but these Disney Princess films seem to have a cap on how good or bads the legs are. I don't expect worse than a 2.7 multi for it.

Creed 2 is going to be a drama about Donnie facing his father's legacy DIRECTLY by feuding with Li'l Duke Burton, who is training the new champ, Stuntman Wheeler, who was supposed to fight Conlan before he got his jaw busted. This will be complicated by the fact Donnie will be going it alone when Rocky dies at the midway point of the movie. He'll not only have to win the title, but mend fences with Li'l Duke, and make peace with the legacy that he still doesn't truly own in the eyes of his hometown.

(I mean, if I was trying to come up with a plausible sequel to Creed, that is)

Saw Lego Batman this weekend, just on a random date night cause we wanted to get out and it was the only movie out we had even the tiniest bet of curiosity about.

Very much enjoyed it. I love all the call backs to Batman throughout history, and the Dr. Who stuff made me super happy.

True, but if any of these are going to be a different, um, animal, it's going to be Beast. It's the first remake from the last Disney renascence and might play to different audiences than the others; people my age remember seeing it in theaters, showed it to our kids, and we're both motivated to go. (Anecdotal note: my younger daughter is losing her mind over the new BatB, but all the others were all but off her radar.)

It has definitely tapped into the zeitgeist. People aren't going to see it because they're hearing it's a great horror film, they're going because they hear it's a smart analysis of race in America while wearing a sort of horror film skin. As such, I don't think it can/should really be compared to other horror films because people aren't primarily seeing it for the thrills or scares, they're going for the social commentary.

Presales for Beauty and the Beast are starting out stronger than The Jungle Book in China as well. Without checking, I think that the Jungle Book made around $160M in China.

Any other major markets left for it to open in?

Japan, but that isnt going to be worth much.

Safe to assume that Beauty and the Beast will be Disney's biggest film not named Star Wars this year? Or am I underestimating Cars 3?

I've not seen The Kings Speech. What's in it that could be so bad that it warrants an R rating? I'm assuming a lot of swearing.
