Strong domestic performance and Star Wars isn't all that in China.
$529 million I believe. Jurassic World is close behind.
Yup, China. Plus TFA didn't open in China for opening weekend. Was a couple of weeks after there.
Star Wars' China openings aren't included in the opening weekend numbers since it is 3 weeks later.

I know other people already replied, but like Kswis said earlier, this record is more about opening in as many countries as you can on the same weekend than how much the movie actually makes when it opens. The Last Jedi could break this record even though there's no way it makes as much money as Force Awakens in general, and Infinity War can next year as well as long as everyone (including China/Japan) opens the same weekend.
