I can't wait for the LOST panel... I wonder if DL/CC would accept an unsolicited treatment from an audience member?

No they wouldn't (for, among other things, legal reasons).

assuming you're talking about a Lost treatment, that is.

No, it's actually for an original series - maybe I'll smuggle in an agent :lol

Although, I'd have to convince my gf to give up her ticket...

I can't wait for the series finale. The epic meltdowns when fans realise that 1000 questions were never answered will be tremendous. I just wonder if it will crash and burn as spectacularly as the X-Files finale.

They've already answered nearly everything. The biggest questions remaining have to do with the core mythology of the show, and stuff that was introduced late in Season 5.

All of the questions and answers at this point are tied together. You answer what the island is, and you've simultaneously answered two dozen other questions.

They've detailed that some things won't be explained because there isn't an explanation. In a couple interviews, they've used the 'explain The Force' analogy to detail this.

More interested in what these "greener pastures" are :D

Would love to see a confirmation an a Y movie. And honestly, LaBouf would be a great Yorick. GAF be damned.

I wouldn't hold my breath for an explanation of what the island is.

In the final podcast (I think?) they said by the premiere of S6, we'd have most of the pieces as the what exactly the Island is. We certainly got pieces in the S5 finale.

Anyone else a bit taken aback at the not-so-subtle jabs at LOST in this thread? That last season was absolutely unbelievable. It was one of the greatest seasons of any show in television history and I'm reading these random digs about the show...makes no sense.

Anyway, it's a loss but I don't think it'll be that big of a loss. I remember reading the creators and writers already know how season 6 is gonna play out, how the show is gonna end, etc.

His episodes were mostly "meh" anyways. Now how about getting David Fury back from 24?

I would love Fury to write an episode.

Maybe "Runabout" for our new pal :)?

Kind of sucks, but I'm glad for him, I'm not worried about the show or anything. The most important writers for season 6 are Lindelcuse. They need to being back Fury for the final season!!

Eh; opinions, assholes yadda yadda.

I happen to (mostly) agree with you on this, though.

I think we'll have a good idea of what's been happening ON the island all these years (Jacob's rivalry, etc.), but as for the island itself:

Damon Lindelof said:
There are certain questions about the show that I’m very befuddled by like, ‘What is the Island?’ or ‘What do the numbers mean?’ We’re going to be explaining a little more about the numbers, maybe significantly more about the numbers, but what do you mean by ‘What do the numbers mean?’ What is a potential answer to that question? I feel like you have to be very careful about entering into Midi-Chlorian territory. I grew up on Star Wars; I’ve seen the Star Wars movies hundreds of times; I can recite them chapter and verse, and never once did anyone ever say to me or did it occur to me to say, ‘What is the Force, exactly? Can you explain that for me, better than Alec Guinness does?’ I understand, ‘When are we going to find out about Libby?’ That’s a very finite question. ‘Who is Jacob?’ OK, yes, we’ve been talking to this guy named Jacob, so those questions then should have answers, but ‘What is the Island?’ That starts to get into ‘What is the Force?’ It is a place. I can’t explain to you why it moves through space-time—it just does. You have to accept the fact that it does.”

NEVER!!!!! The x-files stunk in its last few seasons because a) Duchovny decided he wanted to do other things and b) they never set an end date for the show.

2 problems that didn't happen with LOST.

Touche.

I'm fine with that though. I'm more concerned with the characters at this point. Especially after that finale.

It's funny because I remember during my epic 6 month ban reading the LOST thread post-airing every single week and seeing all the insane reactions to each moment and how almost everyone except the Solo guy loved it to death and thought it was so awesome and now I'm reading these digs

Damn straight, I'm with you, I really don't care about "all" of the questions being answered, they will most definitely answer the most important ones. If anyone thought they would answer every single question/mystery by series end is fucking retarded...
But, there is still of course going to be a shit storm about the finale! Can't wait!:D :lol

Actually, none of the guys ragging on it in here posted in the weekly threads (except for Solo who hasn't shot one off in here). We're only missing Spotless Mind (my FNL compadre) and The Storyteller and then we've got a party.

What's to explain? The island is an island.

So is the combination of North and South America, technically... Dur, I think he's wondering why the island is home to insane magnetic properties, mystical diety-like figures, and why it is continually changing locations in space/time. I'd say it's pretty atypical.

I'm getting the feeling that most of the haters probably stopped watching the show a few seasons ago

Well, when you talk Lost outside of the usual weekly/off-season threads, you get people who haven't been keeping up with it. For me, personally, it's fine to criticize Lost. It's not your thing, whatever. But to say it's garbage, or even mediocre all the time, that's just insane. There really are some objectively outstanding moments in the show and it has no doubt already left an indelible mark on the television landscape. Even if you're not a fan, the show really isn't something that should be brushed off.

The magnetic properties are just geological, and the space/time movements are due to that electromagnetism.

I agree that why Jacob and the other guy have taken up residence there is a question that needs answering, though.

Absolutely nailed it. Really well said

That's a bit of a leap in logic from the information presented so far, but either way I'm glad they won't really bother trying to explain it. The more interesting story is what's happened as a result of its unique properties.

As long as they explain the smoke monster...

We can certainly infer QUITE a bit.

Especially with that carving in Dead Is Dead showing Smokey and The Statue (who we now know is ________) fighting (or at least very much looking like it).

We'll get more bits all season long.

Zeliard said:
Yes, I'm sure we won't get an explanation to the show's single biggest mystery.
I'm just citing Lindelof's own words.

gdt5016 said:

Oh, absolutely. And it seems like they're going for a combination of science and mysticism that would be highly appropriate for the themes of the show.

Salmonax said:

What words?

Edit: obviously, when you ask "what is the island", it's not a literal question. As Blader said, the island is an island. That's not the mystery I'm talking about at all. When you ask "what is the island" relative to Lost, you are asking why the entire show and every plot thread revolves around the island. What was the beginning of it all? That is the big mystery of the show, and ties directly into Jacob and the smoke monster and such.

But WHY is it on that island? And why are Jacob/Anti-Locke on the island? If an island is significant enough to attract deities, the why behind the place is extremely relevant methinks...

That has to be the reason. It set a new precedent for awful. I didn't think this show could possibly get worse than season 2, but the writers proved me wrong.

I wonder what was so important that he couldn't stick around for these last 6-9 months?

What he's working on now seems to be a bunch of movie projects:

From the slashfilm link:
His twist on the King Arthur legend Roundtable is setup at Dreamworks, Marvel is developing his comic Runwaways, Y: The Last Man is still in development but stalling over at New Line/Warner Bros, so maybe he’s going to ry to give that a kick start with a completely new draft. And his comic Ex Machina is in development over at BenderSpink.
According to what I've read, the Runaways film is developing pretty actively and he's playing a major role.

Also, finishing the Ex Machina comic series.

Though I too am disappointed that he's left. His season 4 episodes were all awesome.

We'll isn't the last season done with, I guess they finished writing the main plot and just needed the smaller writers to tie-in stuff. I'm sure he left the show knowing that there wasn't much left for him.
I agree.
