I hope the game is entirely about killing Nazis. Killing various kinds of Nazis. Big Nazis. Small Nazis. Nazis in between.

Finally, let's kill Hitler, in a glorious and prolonged fashion.

That's what I want out of Wolfenstein.

Why would it not being made? Was there a rumour floating about the fact? Not into FPSs to care enough, the genre is not for me, sadly, but curious.

Let’s hope Machine Games can put together a more balance experience with level design that makes sense. I swore off their future games after beating Wolf 2 because it was such a frustrating experience.

The forced political stuff didn’t help the game either. It wasn’t deep, it didn’t make me think about anything. It just came across as too on the nose and something written by some European guy who’s entire worldview is shaped by Twitter.

They have a lot to prove with their third game.

What politics was in Wolfenstein 2?

Are we seriously at a point where people feel that games that kill Nazis is BS politics? Hasn't Wolfenstein always been a game about killing Nazis?

I say this as somebody who is frustrated with out constantly offended/triggered.

Can't speak or answer for the person above, but I believe he is referring to the game's marketing of:

"Make America Nazi-free Again."

Which could be perceived as a slam against President Trump and the majority of the USA citizents who vote for him.

That and I think some questionable quotes from the director/PR person of the game.

Up until you realize that Zenimax, the company that owns Bethesda has Robert Trump as a part of it's Board of Directors.

Great i hope they keep the BS politics out of this one
The politics in Wolfenstein II, which I don't think held the game back on principal, are the least of the game's problems.

The level design and story elements got really and nonsensical in the latter half.

because they didn't market the game as anti-nazi. They marketed it as "the anti-trump" game, and when they are called out for the pretty obvious marketing, they hide behind "Well we are anti-nazi. Aren't you anti-nazi" like its some vieled threat. It's the most obvious shit I've ever seen.

They called thei customers nazi's, and expected them to buy the game. It's stupid and silly.

So, Wolfenstein received a more robust storyline with scenarios that "make the most sense" in that universe, not sure what the problem is here. It's a grindhouse experience with a lot of tongue in cheek content, I always felt it fits. When it comes to narrative design and writing, it just makes sense that there are influences and inspiration from other sources, be it other entertainment or even real-world events. I don't see your problem here.

Yes, that's what DOOM and Wolfenstein were, but times have clearly changed. Gaming has changed. Lore and story play a much more pivotal role nowadays. As someone that grew up with both, adore both, and id as a whole I don't see what you're getting at very clearly...

Two weeks after Wolfenstein II came out it was half off. And it was down to 10 bucks within a couple months. I guess Bethesda doesn't mind losing money.

The game was littered with tons of feminist/SJW propaganda. Scenes like the one where the strong pregnant woman saves the weak man and then takes her shirt off.

If you played the Wolfenstein reboot back in 2014, then you knew what you were getting into with Wolfenstein 2 regarding the story. If all you want to do is shoot bad guys and ignore any sembalnce of a narrative, then COD:BO4 is the game for you bud.

Wolfenstein 2 was great, not problem free but a proper videogame ride. It blows my mind whenever I see people were offended by it, but on so many levels that's the world we live in I guess

that being said, after Wolfenstein New Order, Old Blood, New Colossus, and 3 bits of dlc, I could do with a year or so off (which I know we're not getting), so I'm in no rush for a new game even if I'm glad Bethesda are making them

But isn't the Wolfenstein series(though maybe be told in a serious manner here) supposed to be doing these silly things like what you had just pointed out?

How so?

I never once thought about Trump nor conservatives when playing the game - I thought about the GENUINE Nazis that the game's enemies are based off of. Not everyone who dislikes republicans is dumb enough to generalize them as Nazis.

If they wanted to be anti-Trump they could have done a lot more than a spin on the MAGA slogan. I feel like we would have gotten the same game if Hillary won.

So a pregnant woman saving a man's life in one scene is too edgy and mind-boggling to you, but BJ having his head cut off and then having his body replaced by an artificial terminator body is perfectly normal? The fact that seeing a woman be heroic is so controversial to you says a lot about your character.

Yeah it was a bit over the top. I remember reading the Steam reviews after launch and they were hilarious. Game got ripped to shreds. Seemed like most people who enjoyed the story in the first game didn’t care for the sequel.

For me personally I couldn’t roll my eyes hard enough at your evil white father turned Nazi sympathizer who gleefully beats your Jewish mother, hates that you have a black girl friend and makes you shoot your dog. Thats some tipity top writing there brehs. 😂

I, like I said do not believe that the game that is putting money on Trump's pockets was there to ridicule America...regarding how much influence and how much close Robert Trump was at the making of it, or any associates of the Trump family.

But the game did not any service to it's narrative as well.

I'm not talking about the game. I'm talking about how it marketed itself. The marketing of a game is still a part of the experience imo, and for a lot of people it directly affects their opinion of the game before they play it, and even moreso if they have never played it. If the marketing takes an antagonistic tone against their own customer base, than they are risking it underperforming.

Don't talk about my character, you don't know shit about me and yes I do find it ridiculous, because just the other day I gave my seat up to a very pregnant lady on the bus and she thanked me and said she could barely stand at this point. And I've been around enough pregnant women in my life to know that when their bellies are huge they can barely walk around so yeah I don't see them fighting and saving anybody in their condition.

If the customer base in question supports nazism or similar ideologies, why does it matter if the marketing offends them?

Good thing real life and fictional video games are not the same thing. In real life, someone being decapitated means death. In games, it can mean getting a new body and new abilities. The entire game is based on science fiction, exaggerated views of the world from the 60s and 70s, and just plain craziness. You opted to simply focus on one small snippet of the game where a woman becomes heroic for a few moments.

"if you don't like Wofenstein 2, you're a nazi"

Hell of a pitch to sell a game on. I wonder why it didn't go great
Worked about as well as calling your customers uneducated for speaking up against revisionist history.

EDIT: I just saw from that Vice video that the devs are from Sweden as well. Now it all makes perfect sense.

Did the devs or the marketing material actually say this verbatim or is that something alt-right people said to dampen the game?

It’s been 9 months since I’ve played it but yeah that sounds about right. Like I said in my first post, a lot of what they were doing was too on the nose. It was more distracting than interesting. Like the chick breast feeding while smoking, or the heroic pregnant chick, or the strong sassy black woman with a huge afro who has a timid, incompetent white husband., or the saga with your dad. It was constant eye rolling stuff.

I will say that the presentation was so strong that sitting through the terrible story bits was worth it. If the can tone it down in future games they’d have a real winner on their hands. They just need to make it more like the first and less like the second.

The game was all over the place when it comes to tone. BJ constantly moaning over Caroline was extremely off putting and out of place since you barely spent much time with her. The characters were either unlikeable or tolerable at best.

I bought it when it was 10 bucks cause I figured why not but I didn't finish it cause the story was just too stupid to keep my interest, it's a shame because the gameplay was very solid.

Ok..I remember the scene. I thought it was an overthetop gratuitous scene. But I can't say I came away thinking it was SJW/feminist. If anything I figured that would piss off feminists since it was quite obviously gratuitous and pointless.

No offense, but if that's your argument for too much politics, it's kinda weak.

You didn’t miss much. The biggest draw for me was how gorgeous it looked on the Xbox One X. The music was excellent too. The gunplay was mostly fine but the guns were less fun than the guns in the first game. The level design/difficulty spikes were atrocious though. Some of the worst I’ve ever experienced in a modern game.

Does this mean another smear ad campaign or are they getting rid of the propaganda this time?

Or the slanderous ad campaign... that's the definition of propaganda.
