Wolfenstein: The New Order is single player only

Sort of a bummer, but not surprising. RtCW's multi-player was incredible, but it's pretty clear that the only development studio that's interested in continuing that style of multi-player is Splash Damage, and I don't want them anywhere near this game after what they did with Brink. I do wish that the multi-player component of RtCW (Not W:ET, mind you. That game wasn't more popular because it was better; it was more popular because it was free.) would be updated and released as a free download.

This and Evil Within also use the same engine. I will be buying them both.

What kind of multiplayer game would it have been anyway? It's a console focused game so it wasn't going to be like Enemy Territory, so what, we're missing out on a Call of Duty clone?

I wonder if they will still charge full price even though it lacks a major component of almost every other FPS game on the market.

Who am I kidding? Of course they will, for the four weeks before massive price drops that is.

Praise the lord! I'm sick of shitty tacked on shoehorned check-the-box multiplayer

Yes, because generic multiplayer options would be the only choice the developer could make. It's not like they could bring back the amazing multiplayer that RTCW had or anything.

As long as the campaign is meaty, I don't see a problem.

This is about the only series I can think of where I would be disappointed by this news. I've wanted a sequel to Enemy Territory forever now, and was hoping this would be it...not interested anymore unfortunately.

FUCK YES! OH GOD FUCK YES his game wasn't even on my radar until i read this thread saying it was single player only.

LOL

Allow me to explain, Wolfenstein went from one of the best multiplayer games on PC (RTCW / ET) to single player only. I am sad.

Wolfenstein started as a single player only game.

These kids today don't know their history.

Platinum trophy is now attainable without wading through uninspired MP-modes!

I LIKE !

RTCW would probably not be matched by any MP-mode this would include.

If you are only interested in creating a SP experience, why would you make a new Wolfenstein in the first place. This is the series that spawned RTCW and W:ET for crying out loud. Looks like my suspicions were justified.

Welp, thanks for showing such a lack of commitment to the franchise this early in development. At the very least this makes New Order an easy bullet to dodge.

Honest question: If you don't believe that the developer could create an online mode better than a ten year old xbox/ps2 game, why do you have faith that they will create a good single player mode?

The very definition of "campaign rental".

Not that makes it a bad thing, I'm just not plunking down 69.99 for an 8 hour FPS.

I love me some multiplayer, but if it's just tacked on we are better off without it. Just hoping the single player turns out good.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I was eager to see wether the talent at machinegames would be able to live up to the pedigree of Enemy Territory.

I already compiled a list of anti-Nazi insults I planned on using online though. It took me forever to think up "Guten frag"

Dude have you played Riddick and Darkness MP?

It was abysmal. Even though the premise of some modes was good.

Only decent MP-stuff from Starbreeze was Syndicate and nobody played that. I think it's good for them to focus on good SP-stuff.

Starbreeze does amazing SP stuff, just play Riddick/DarkAthena/The Darkness/Syndicate. Very strong SP.

I had no interest in the game, but this is very interesting. They have to make sure the sp is worthwhile now. It's back on my radar.

Not going to lie, storming the beach in Wolfenstein with some buddies is one of my greatest multiplayer memories.

That being said, I applaud this decision. Show the industry that an FPS game can thrive and post huge sales without multiplayer.

I seriously doubt that this will be the title to do it.

Day one
rental

Pretty disappointed that there is no multi but if it means we get a better, more polished product, then I guess it's for the best.

Wolfenstein is hardly a series I'd pick as an example of tacked-on multiplayer.

My interest has gone way down on this news. I spent most of summer 2003 playing Return to Castle Wolftenstein on the Xbox.

Very glad to hear this. Always loved the Wolfenstein campaigns, so I'm very glad to see them focusing on it.

Yeah, but look at the quality of modern FPS games compared to those amazing games.

The multiplayer would have been awful, it's better that it's not going to have it, devs can't be trusted to make a good multiplayer experience anymore.

Same. Was really hoping to have something close to that with this game.

Still going to keep my eye on this though.

K...now normally I would be "Yay +1 for great SP experience!" but didnt wolfenstein have a really good multiplayer component?

Publishers finally realising that people will just play CoD/Battlefield/Halo so they can cut costs by not doing a useless mp part that will be dead in a week.

In this thread I learned that...

if an FPS has multiplayer, it's automatically tacked on

OR

if an FPS doesn't have mp, it has to have a lengthy campaign

I'm guessing they're letting this be done because of Dishonored's success. I hope it works out. I don't doubt the game will be good.
