Wolfenstein: The New Order is single player only

Good. With CoD/BF4/Planetside 2 there are plenty of other good MP games at PS4 launch for me. It would be hard for Wolfenstein to compete with them.

What the hell is up with all the responses in this thread? I don't get how people can say "I don't need more tacked-on multiplayer" or "good, I'm more interested now." Wolfenstein is a competitive multiplayer game, with genre-redefining advancements from RtCW. This is a massive step back.

That's like saying you don't need tacked-on multiplayer for Halo and COD. WTF?

In this thread I learned that...

if an FPS has multiplayer, it's automatically tacked on

OR

if an FPS doesn't have mp, it has to have a lengthy campaign

For low budget games this is true
see:
Singularity, Timeshift, Bioshock 2, Homefront, Spec Ops

Wolfenstein is one of the few shooter franchises where I want to see multiplayer. I hope they reconsider for the sequel. If this game is successful enough to warrant one that is.

Lame, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and it's free expansion were incredible multiplayer shooters for their day and were different enough to stand on their own. A modern version of that sort of multiplayer would've made me a lot more interested.

it's not a low-budget game though.

Neither were Spec Ops (50 million $), Bioshock 2 and Singularity. Timeshift was mid-budget.

Fyi, Splash Damage released Wolfenstein Enemy Territory for free after release.... SO WHO KNOWS D:

LET ME DREAM DAMN IT.

I see Wolfenstein as being a much more versatile IP than Call of Duty, but maybe that's just me.

Great, they can focus on the singleplayer alone! Hopefully Bethesda doesn't screw them over like they did with Obsidian and Human Head.

Lemme ask you something: did the original Wolfenstein had multiplayer?

So does this mean it'll be semi open world game with certain amount of structure instead of simply shoot-bang corridor gamplay with some story elements and few QTEs?

WHAT? Of all the games to go in a single player direction...why did they have to choose this one? I had high hopes we'd see a return of the MP that made RTCW such a joy to play.

Bah, fuck this.

So tacked-on multiplayer modes that nobody asked for aren't the way forward after all?
Wolfenstein multiplayer is something everyone should be asking for. Bringing RtCW/ET's multiplayer into the modern era would have been a whole lot more interesting than this.

Whatever happened to Nerve, anyway. Splash Damage tries, but Nerve's probably the only outfit around that could do their own original work justice.

...outsourced work for Black Ops and Colonial Marines? Jesus.

Irrelevant, multi player is what made Wolfenstein blow up. Halo started out single player only too but tons of people fell in love with it because of the MP.

In the vast majority of cases I would agree with the 'i don't want tacked on MP' crowd, especially for games that have always been known to be SP-only, but not this series. It's definitely a step back imo. People reinstall Enemy Territory once it's mentioned the way they do Deus Ex, it's that much of a classic.

Man I really would love a new WW2 arcade enemy territory, free to play in the same vein as TF2 with proper balance, lots of classes and styles of play etc.

It's in the nature of an FPS game to want multiplayer if there isn't going to be a decent campaign length. Something like Half Life 2 worked fine because the length was pretty good. Even if the campaign is really good, if it's only 5-6 hours long it will be in the bargain bins with no multiplayer to give it some kind of longevity. I dont even think all games need multiplayer, but I just don't see this game doing well.

I'm guessing they're letting this be done because of Dishonored's success. I hope it works out. I don't doubt the game will be good.

Fallout,TES,Dishonored and other Bethesda games were SP only. The Evil Within is a big budget survival Horror in this day and age,Bethesda seems like it want to be a different type publisher than the other ones, they take risks and don't follow what other publishers do.

the team they're using for this is obviously qualified to make an interesting SP game and afaik has never made a well-regarded MP shooter

we can easily conclude at this point that enemy territory was a fluke and splash damage didn't know what they'd done or how they'd done it. i loved the game too but dear god it is time to let go.

I hope it has similar gameplay to Blood Dragon except not faux sandbox (go all out if you can do it right or not at all) and harder with many more enemies per set. FC3 and Blood Dragon have a good solid base but ruin it with populating the outposts and areas with next to no enemies, even with the reinforcements after screwing up a stealthy approach. But the AI and gunplay are relatively fun and satisfying the way they let you mess with enemies, distract and flank them even after you get spotted, not like other fps like COD and even the main campaign in FC3 allowed less of it, it's better with that in Blood Dragon.

I didn't think people would be so upset about mp, Enemy Territory wasn't the Wolfenstein legacy, it was quite the stand alone title almost merely using the license and little else beyond the WWII theme, while its developers have made other ET style games since with little success, I dunno why you'd think these guys can do better. I'd try a new ET from Splash if they seemed to get around previous issues, Quake Wars was competent but ultimately not for most people but a mix of that with the parkour from their other game, improved gunplay and some parts of COD could be both good and successful, maybe.

Edit: wait, I actually forgot it had multiplayer before Enemy Territory since that's the one everyone loved, there are people who want the base multiplayer as it was before that free stand alone title? 100% news to me.

Why is that even relevant? Games evolve with new technology all the time. RtCW was without a doubt the best game in the franchise BECAUSE of its multiplayer.

I think it excites people because we're at a point where every game tries to push a MP mode just for the sake of getting people to hold onto their games longer and keep them out of the used market. For a new FPS game to have no MP is an indication that the SP might be really damn good. Or it's a huge blunder. And that is interesting, so people are interested.

but.....rtcw .....multiplayer....but....aw
Just knowing how well regarded that was is why I'm actually hesitant about them going SP only here. It's absolutely the best fit for a lot of games, but will that hold true here? Though maybe the mechanics are going to be in a form more interesting for SP that won't translate smoothly to multiplayer.

LOL

Allow me to explain, Wolfenstein went from one of the best multiplayer games on PC (RTCW / ET) to single player only. I am sad.

Yeah this is crazy. They could atleast copy/paste the RtCW multiplayer into this game with upgraded textures etc and I'd buy it.

Also its not like RTCW hasn't been topped all over the place this gen.

By what? I still consider it the best MP game of all time, only CoD 1 and 2 have even came close.
