Weird, I always underestimate my height since eye level's lower than one's actual height. I always say 5'10'' even though I'm closer to being 6' even (people always bug me that I'm 5'11' and 3/4).Prospero said:A fun fact that I learned from reading The Post-Truth Era: Dishonesty and Deception in Contemporary Life: most men overestimate their own height by 1-2 inches. This doesn't mean that they're lying about their height when you ask them, but that they really believe they're 1-2 inches taller than they actually are.
Maybe they overestimate their height and when you accurately state your height, you bring them down a peg or two, so to speak.OpinionatedCyborg said:Weird, I always underestimate my height since eye level's lower than one's actual height. My dad is puny. Say, probably 5'7". All of his sons are already taller than him. And my younger brothers already dwarf me. My 19 year old brother is probably around 6' and my 16 year old brother is already as tall as me, and is well on his way to surpassing 6 feet as well.

My parents are much taller than yours and that's why my brothers and I are also much taller than you and your brothers.
Also the mother's height comes into play as well of course.

My cousins on the otherhand... 5'5", 5'7"(21 & 23yo) both males, where as my uncle is 6'2" and my aunt 5'10" so taller parents doesn't really mean taller kids.
Well, you're the one who said height is one of the most inheritable traits there is. I'm pretty sure I share the same parents as my siblings.malek4980 said:Demon, actual distribution of relatedness between siblings (not counting twins).

malek4980 said:Height is one of the most heritable traits there is, roughly 90% of the variation in height today is due to genetics in western men. The height of your siblings indicates this. I am much taller than both my parents, but the difference can be explained by environmental factors since my father was born in Poland during WWII. In Western countries the environmental factors that determine height are pretty evened out. Few children face mineral or vitamin deficiency and most exceed the daily calorific requirements. Any variation in height is pretty much due to genes.
Is there anything in your parentÂ’s childhood that might explain this?
lol, I've been told I kinda look like him. I don't buy it, though.etiolate said:I know a lot of chicks with the hots for Seth Green.
You inhert genes from your parents, but siblings don't share 100% of the genes.demon said:Well, you're the one who said height is one of the most inheritable traits there is. I'm pretty sure I share the same parents as my siblings.
While children inherit more or less exactly half of their genomes from each parent (and thus -- usually -- have a coefficient of kinship of 1/2) due to the mechanism of two hapolid genomes combining at feritilization, for full siblings the actual coefficient is merely distributed around a mean of about 1/2. Due to chance segregation, some siblings have an actual relatedness which is greater than 1/2 and others less than 1/2.

I think you're being unfair with your sarcasm. I simply said that it would be cool if the world agreed on one system. I never said it had to be "our" system in any way. I don't care which system it is.maynerd said:They should agree with our system. I ain't got time to figure out that other stuff. Everyone also should speak american too.
