I love the way they transition from having a great jolly laugh to serious face :lol

Also whats with all the people that call out Dragona when anything about women is posted. Are you guys suggesting that she has no sense of humour? Humour isn't limited to males.

well, if she bans someone for making a sexist joke wouldn't that be defense enough?

I think it's just because people like walking the line.

I remember coming across that in Youtube a while ago and thought that is was ridiculously stupid.

Such poor taste.

And yes I know it's a parody (no shit), but God, Seth Mcfarlene's better than this shit.

You obviously don't get it if you think it's in poor taste. :-/

This is not funny.

You were banned for laughing at a parody of old-timey sexist attitudes? o_0

Harry Enfield is a genius. Haven't been watching his new show much, though.

This can't be the full story, because the skit is not sexist or in poor taste. It invites its audience to laugh at the ludicrous societal expectations of the past. And, in doing so, has a positive impact by contributing to apprehension of the gender inequality that was once overt and rampant and expected, but is now relegated to emerging, when it does, as a subtle undercurrent - or, at least, had a significant impact as such when it was first on television more than a decade ago.

Only idiots, either unrecoverable in their sexism or missing an understanding of humour, should find otherwise.

It's because it never takes too long before someone says something really stupid and the thread devolves into madness.

Way to protect yourself :lol

I mean she does have a sense of humor, she only bans those who take it too far.

Now mistress what do you want my slaveboy self to do to please you?

I knew very well what the skit's intent was when I first saw it on youtube, which is why I was even more confused about that incident a few months ago.

I'd rather just drop it at this point though. I like the gaf community for the most part and I'd rather not make a fuss out of this

Edit:
Off to work then...

Its interesting to me how globally entertainment concepts have expanded and certain regions/countries excel at a particular genre. For example, Japan whoops American ass at making interesting frightening horror movies. Likewise, Great Britain excels at doing parody, comedy, and satire far more than American can.

Now I'm off to google more Harry Enfield. That shit is hysterical.

She banned me once for a few months over a small sexist joke. :(

I know the full story, somebody on the Epic Mickey thread posted a pic of Mickey and Mini driving in a car and he had the most annoyed expression while starring at her, I jokingly posted the vid as an explanation for it and got banned for being "mysogonist and to some people probably racist" (Im not kidding). And the guy got banned for just laughing at it.

So yeah, when people say to run away when this kind threads are posted, you gotta tread lightly cos theres a shitload of moody people online that cant see beyond what they want to see.

Edit: THIS IS NOT FUNNY NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT, just in case.

I know that my friends wont catch that its a satire until I point it out to them. Let the great experiment begin!

Yea, my ass. You find it funny because it IS offensive. It's not unoffensive because it's funny. How fucking backwards can you get it?

calling it offensive is like calling the day today (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Bq_dkPkQUU) a terrible news show. well...yeah, it is! but it's also satirising something that genuinely was offensive by today's standards, and as a result has the exact opposite intention. it's not offensive because it shouldn't actually offend anyone - it's on their side.

it's funny because it's exaggerating the views of 1950s England to comical effect and subverting them to show how outrageous they were.

Zenith said:
yes, 1950s sterotype, check out the one about the first television broadcast.

i am completely sure it was set a fair bit earlier than that - at the very very latest pre-WWII, because i remember one which was like an introduction to hitler! those accents sound pretty 30s to me.

if 1950s england was like that i think family mealtimes with my grandparents would've been a lot more entertaining :lol

This pretty much epitomises how the laugh track will pretty much guarantee me finding something fucking stupid.
If it was actually funny, I'd..y'know laugh myself.

It's twenty years old. And remarkably sophisticated for its time. Sorry twenty-year old comedies can't all be as sophisticated as you and Curb your Enthusiasm.
