so it's nothing major then.

It's not like global warming or something is going to kill all the plants, just business reasons currently affecting supply. People will still make chocolate.

Debunked.

Couldn't RJ Reynolds swap out their tobacco fields for cocoa when the price of chocolate surpasses cigarettes? Then everyone would love them!

In the year 2525, if chocolate still aroun
If woman can survive, they may find
In the year 3535

Ain't gonna need teeth to maintain, nor detist
Everything you think, do and say
Is in the twinkie you ate today

In the year 4545
You ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your taste
You won't find a craving to chew
Nobody's gonna choko at you

In the year 5555
Your arms hangin' limp at your sides
Your legs got nothin' to do
Some anti-depression doin' that for you

In the year 6565
You won't need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your candy, pick your diary too
From the bottom of a long glass tube

In the year 7510
If God's a-coming, He oughta make it by then
Maybe He'll look around Himself and say
"Guess it's time for the Judgement Day"

In the year 8510
God is gonna shake His mighty head
He'll either say, "I'm pleased where hershey has been"
Or tear it down, and start again

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive
He's eaten all the chocolate this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing

Now it's been ten thousand years, man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew, now man's craving is through
But through eternal snickers, the twinkling of mars bars
So very far away, maybe it's only milkyway??

Nooo! How will I get my mint chocolate, my favorite food ever? What will we drink on the warm winter nights? How will our grandkids percieve Chocolate Valley in Super Mario Kart?

Edit : In our local news it was also stated that the amount of cocoa plantations is shrinking, because Chinese people have caused rubber demand to spike and as a result rubber plantations are more profitable for farmers. More cars, more pollution, less chocolate.

But wait, if chocolate becomes scarcer and scarcer while demand remains constant, won't that result in the price of chocolate getting driven up until eventually cause it to become more profitable than rubber?

You can take your basic economics and get the hell out of here.

There is limited space for production and lets face it, manufacturing is more important for emerging powerhouses than chocolate. World needs more rubber and plastic.

Think about the rise in bitchiness that this will create. I'm talking like 35% increases, maybe more.

The day it becomes an actual problem, Nestle turns all of Niger into a chocolate farm.

The conglomerates will never let it get that bad.

Ok the wikipedia article was enlightening.

Suck it non ecuatorial countries, we'll sell you at insane prices, no modern society will accept a chocolate-less existance, you'll pay what we ask :P.

Time to invest in some farms.

I predict the genocide of men since women will be stabbing rebound men 31 times in bed because they didn't properly cope with the sadness of a breakup by eating the proper amount of chocolate while being all melancholy.

Chocolate won't "run out" that's just hyperbole shite to get in to the press (or made up by the press). Chocolate is already getting more expensive but that's supply and demand in action, by 2020 it might be a luxury product like it was in the past but it won't "run out".

Just expect more chocolate using more milk than coco, but that's ok because Kinda chocolate it like that and that's the best stuff out.

"Run out"? Lol no.

Unless there is a plague goiing around that is destroying the species, there is always going to be chocolate around if there is some profit in it. If the supply ever gets low enough, chocolate prices will rise in response, and it will be able to compete with rubber.

When/If chocolate starts to become scarce, the price will go up and those same farmers that jumped ship to the more expensive rubber will jump right on back to the more profitable cocoa plantations once again. There's no way production will completely stop unless there is some disease or climate event that completely devastates the entire cocoa plant population worldwide.
