Worst Male Character Design in Gaming

latest

Even his name is bad

Nooj

from Final fantasy X-2

Truly the worst character design, ever. I hope the artist learned another trade.

I said Squall specifically about the Dissidia version.

V-neck - overdesigned and just repeats the same design in the necklace he's already wearing
Fur belt - ridiculous and just a repeat of his jackets legitimate fur collar
Ass cape - .... why?
Beltbuckle - another overdesigned addition that just repeats an element, entire waist was turned into a mess.

i can give some reasons as to why he looks like that

the "fur belt" and "ass cape" is meant to be his jacket as the artwork that design is based on has him not wearing the jacket

it's just for some reason nomura left it there when he shouldn't have

Delsin is the fugliest I have ever seen and there's no contest
I just need to put this out there as the worst realistic character design and styling

Fuglier than I could ever imagine. They turned Troy Baker into this in their poor attempt to make him look Native American

Not to mention the unbelievable wrinkles this youthful guy in his early twenties had on display

For me it's the turtle men of Gears of War. I utterly despise that art style of hyper testosterone fueled meatheads. It's like playing as the generic headbanger grunts from Brutal Legend minus every ounce of charm or personality.

Whew I can't deal with JRPG characters, going by this thread. Horrible stuff. I want to burn all video game belts and limit them to one per character :P

I thought I was nuts thinking he's not that bad looking, especially in the last 2 screenshots. People seem to hate this dude, maybe I'd understand if I played the game.

He's not bad looking at all, but apparently Troy Baker with darker features is an abomination. My guess is people know/have known someone in real life with a similar style of dress that has been a douche, or they just really hate beanies (I don't like them myself, but I don't think they're unholy).

No you wouldn't because there is nothing wrong with the character. He just looks too Seattle for most people. He doesn't belong in this thread.

Edit: Again, you are telling me he is worse than this character?

he's definitely not ugly, it's just that some people find it to easy to be hateful douchebags.

while mario looks great/normal in game, Ubisoft totally fucked up his head on this boxart, why is his head so fat why is his nose bigger than usual, why does he look like this the cheeks totally look unatural than normal mario T_T

If by totally fucked up you mean barely noticeable unless told so than suuure they totally fucked up.

So, value is generally considered to be partially based on scarcity, right?

Ubiquity can be useful, but is generally not considered to me a marker of quality

I'm trying to say: I'm tired of motherfuckers that look like:

I think if I was a brunette white dude I would either grow my hair out or dye it because god damn

Is this image just tying to say white people with dark hair look a like? bit offended

This looks totAlly for the Minions generation

Meh. While FFX has weird designs they mostly fit the style of the world they were going for. The true bad JRPG designs came from those trying to copy FFX's style with inferior artists. Behold:

For those interested:

Sweetie, your ignorance is showing. Baten Kaitos artist is Nakaba Higurashi, a very competent and accomplished japanese artist. I would take his designs any other day than fugly and edgy FF characters; at least his' show some inspiration, creativity and uniqueness, even if it gets wild at times.

Lol. Come on, leave the "ignorance" and "sweetie" stuff at home. While I admit Baten Kaitos has some decent designs. This shit is garbage:

And the main character's shoes suck.

As crazy and bad as a fair amount of asian designs are, I'm still glad they exist. They do a good job of counteracting the absolutely boring genericness of western male character design philosophy

The awful giant cuffs on his sleeveless arms, the weird belt that hangs down, the proportions of his giant head to his smaller body, the tiny vest with the bib looking collar. It's an easily fixed design but that's his original so it's terrible.

That's really got more to do with the art style/character modelling of the characters in FFIX than the implicit design of Zidane character really. FFIX opts for a more deformed, stylized cartoon-ish artstyle which I normally disliked, but thought it actually looks charming in the game when viewed in the big picture. All FFIX characters are deformed like that, it's not just Zidane.

If we want to look at Zidane purely based on his design, this is how he's supposed to come across.

This shit is garbage:

You're right: It is. I'm not denying it. But to say that Monolith Soft got an inferior "FF artist" is kind of... exaggerated for a game that received wide spread praise for its consistent artstyle.

Anyway, while I consider Breath Of the Wild to be full of beautiful art, the flame guard armor set is really off putting and definitely the worst looking. Makes me never want to be on Eldin Volcano. :/

Vaan is just a Final Fantasy Monk crossed with Aladdin. He is perfectly fine.

Rex from Xenoblade 2 is wearing a diving suit over a wet suit, which fits his job as a diver. So also fine.

I wouldn't say inferior. In fact I think I liked most of their past work up to the original Xenoblade which also had pretty good art style and character design, well, excluding those shitty armor design. XBX is ruined by bad character models. XB2 is the only one that looks like hot garbage.

(We need new Baten Kaitos FFS)

On this we agree. Flamebreaker set sucks. It's not even a fun kind of silly-looking. Just...ugly. I could barely even put just the boots on. Would have much preferred an armor with a more Goron-inspired design. Oh well. At least the potions are easy to make.

For me its just them trying to pass him off as a 20 yr old. He looks really weird to me because of that. I don't think he should be used as a face for someone young

I can't believe Solid Snake got a mention on, "worst guy character design" thread. For shame...

My vote goes to Vaan though. Dude honestly kills my appreciation of FF12.

He just looks off. His face is so feminine yet his body is more medium build, but muscular, yet he's also young? It's like the designers didn't know what they wanted so they made a very ambiguous, effeminate, monster of a design.

Not to mention he's a complete waste of narrative time and bogs down the entire adventure. FF12 could be a great game. Hell it could actually have been my favorite FF, but the fact that you have to watch the whole thing pan out through the eyes of this weak loser of a character honestly knock it down a bunch of pegs on that alone.

His story sucks, his design sucks, and I can't think of a character that single handedly takes down an entire experience due to those factors. Vaan sucks.

Same here, I hate that pose he does on the promo art. When the remaster comes out I'm planning to not use him unless I have no choice.

A stand in for the horrific design of the entire Gears of War series. It was as if they were attempting to make the most un-fuckable guys possible. Just a mass of bulging muscle, some giant armor, and a shitty do-rag

Came here to post Marcus. The goatee makes it even worse. I don't know who made the design but they should feel bad.

The protagonist of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I'm changing his armor the second I'm able to
I keep hoping this design will grow on me and somehow I keep finding more reasons to hate it.

Also, don't forget that they haven't actually shown the ability to change armor appearances yet. If they don't include that, I'm not playing this game.

I remember it took me some time to warm up to IX's character style but I love the goofy look of IX's cast.

Though I doubt they'd use that style again if they ever decided to return to that world. They'd at least modify it.
