Would you vote for an AI?

Number of people who've displayed corruption once in positions of power, propagated discriminatory practices against certain ethnicities or cultures, incited armed conflict on purpose, exploited technologically inferior societies for material gain, plundered non-renewable resources with wanton abandon, committed genocide in general, and so on and so forth: at least a couple of thousand, if not tens of thousands

Number of AI who've done the same outside of fiction: 0

The odds seem pretty good.

Keep in mind, people make AI. As such, their logic would be people logic, albeit faster and more consistent.

Why would we assume that a true AI would be above corruption? Surely it would see the benefits of reaping ample rewards for a few minor considerations.

Well, the programmers/corporation making it could easily be corrupt.

I'm always surprised how many people don't understand the role politicians play in government. They hold the democratic mandate given to them by voters to make decisions on their behalf and be accountable to them. Obviously this doesn't always work perfectly, but there is no such thing as "the most optimal decision" you will always have to compare an infinite amount of decisions and roll the dice not knowing the actual end result.

An AI or a technocrat/scientist/whatever will make the best decisions they can, people who lose out will be mad, not understand that it was in everyone's best interest and ask it to be replaced/protest/rebel.
