Dreams-Visions said:You can stop right there, buddy. Nobody thinks Android tablets are dead or dying.
But people do contend the point that that they will surpass Apple tables in marketshare.

I missed them, then. If so, they're insane.kamil said:Many people in this thread expressed opinions that Android tablets situation is no better than TouchPad's which just got discontinued.

I was buying this for my mother in her mid-50s. When I asked about specific apps he said he didn't know, but knew that he could get those apps on his iphone.
The OS was groundbreaking a few years ago, but really wasn't very user friendly and the adaptation to the pad seemed pretty awful.
In short, very glad I got my mom the Asus.

Pretty much this.Burger said:Android tablet sales are great.
Until you compare them to the iPad, at which point they become a joke.

They're fine in a vacuum. They're also fantastic compared to the PlayBook and others.
Just pretend the iPad doesn't exist and it's all good.
And if they keep the previous generation model as a cheap option as they have with the 3GS and are rumoured to be doing with the iPhone 4/4GS?tino said:Don't worry when the average tablet price go down to $200 Android tablet will take over, Apple is not built for supporting low end and low margin products. Apple will be pushing the next $500 iDevice.

yeah but ipods are no longer 500 bucks either.LCfiner said:they said the same thing about the mp3 player market.
the iPad market is much closer to the old iPod market than the cell phone market. there is no guarantee that cheaper devices will relegate the ipad to niche marketshare (say, <20%)

Burger said:So what's happening with all those sub $200 android tablets currently?
Oh that's right, they are all junk, and nobody is buying them because they are junk.
That's exactly the point. As Apple continues to scale and iterate, you think the iPad will stay at $499 forever?elrechazao said:yeah but ipods are no longer 500 bucks either.
There's already been a cut in the UK. When the iPad launched, the low end model was £449 (I believe, it was certainly over £400), but when the iPad 2 launched the low end dropped to £399. They just need to run a little overlap and drop the iPad 2 prices by £50-£100 when the iPad 3 launches and they'll have a 'cheap' tablet on the market. Kinda like they still sell the 3GS alongside the 4.Tobor said:That's exactly the point. As Apple continues to scale and iterate, you think the iPad will stay at $499 forever?

Well, there's no document editing. As a web browsing / Kindle device? $100 seems about right.BigJonsson said:Would one of these be worth it for 100 bucks lol
My mom might find it useful
