WoW Patch 4.3: Deathwing, Change Armor Appearance, More Bank Storage

Cataclysm backlash? What's the general consensus on the expansion?

It opened nicely, but the amount of time they had to spend on New Azeroth bored a gigantic hole in end game content, which is pretty much the be all end all for a seven year old game.

Been very stagnant lately, short on content and more importantly short on features. It's been very narrow and samey and it hurts doubly so when everything has this random thematic visually.

So, basically, as of late, it's been boring as shit. You either raid heroic modes or you are a huge arena nut or you exist in some kind of pseudo-casual purgatory.

4.3 looks really nice though, and we'll probably see some more feature additions between then and the expansion, I'd like to see the new type of content they keep hinting at but I think it'll be in the expansion.

Still, with the Transmogrification, and the Random Raid Finder and a new type of content and a new continent with a central thematic again, I'm actually excited for things again, if if I do unsub until we get there, heh.

It's nice to see them trying again. After all that honestly all I can think of that I'd really want done is something with RBGs. I really want to do RBGs but my server sucks so hard for them (and my guild is full of lameasses)

And for them to kill flying mounts, increase the speed on ground mounts and introduce new modes of transportation. Fuck flying mounts forever and what they've done to the game world/world pvp

Welcome back my old friend.

Kill it with fire. All about Lightbringer set.

Yeah if they're announcing the final raid - Deathwing, I would expect the next expansion to be announced soon, probably Blizzcon.

Hmm... I have to say I might resub for a month just so I can play in my Judgement + Thunderfury one more time...

edit: Actually I wont. This patch wont be done for months, eh. Bad timing.

Ground mounts running at 310% would be quite...something.

Oh wow, re: transmogrification, thank fucking goodness.

I imagine you'll have to have the gear in question that you want the appearance of, before you can apply it to whatever gear you're currently wearing.

This'll increase traffic back to old instances as people hunt for different-looking old gear, suck more players' time up (I mean, they hunt for different-looking/same-functioning mounts all the time).

I'm so glad I've got tons of old tier gear on my priest still sitting around in the bank (with regards to both the Void Storage feature and Transmogrification).

If I ever go back to playing, it'll be fucking sweet to always appear on my main (priest) as either Avatar (t5) or Absolution (t6) with their kickass corresponding weaponry (Staff of Benediction and Apostle of Argus, respectively -- I know Argus isn't a t6 match, but visually, it looks great with the set).

Appearance is a big part of an MMO. You get attached to the character you're playing as, from stats, to functionality, to appearance, to its name...everything. I'm so glad Blizzard is finally adding this feature

I wonder if the game would remember what armour sets you've worn during the life of your character. I think that would be cool, since you might be able to change some shit that you used to have. This is also tempting me to come back and change my lock to T5. One of the best sets ever. I could even do T2. I still have the bloody helmet.

It's just a patch, and not an expansion. Plus you'll notice they purposefully never gave a release date time frame in their blog post. So it might not be faster actually.
I know, but if they're already working on squeezing Deathwing out it's so they can charge all their players the price of a new expansion as soon as possible.

@anyone who complains about having to pay for premium features: lol

I think the transmogrifier npc could be okay, but I think it could be stupid if it does any of the following:

If you can change into gear you couldn't normally wear
If you can change into gear you haven't ever possessed

Blizzard take my money for monthly subscription. Oh wait, you almost forgot more of my money for micro transactions!

It's stupid to pay for premium features for a game that requires *gasp* monthly subscription!

Also loling at you for supporting something so absurd.

To the people saying they want to use Thunderfury, it looks like legendary items are barred from the transmogrification process.

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2973026165?page=25#487

Oh, what? Goddamnit. That, of all things, should be something I should be permitted to have displayed at all times. It took a lot of dedication to attain my Val'anyr back in the day, as well as the time and efforts of my guildmates.

That's fucking lame.

For some reason my mind is trying to to tell me that transmogrifying weapons is weird and bad for the game, even though armor is fine.

I have no idea why though.

Yeah, apparently that was a mistake or something. Bad tease to advertise the feature with a legendary

source

Wouldn't be remotely surprised if this particular aspect of the feature is still under hot debate internally, since they KNOW people will want to rock their old legendaries in new raids.

anyway hopy shit this is making me resub jesus fuck

I agree. It would placate the "we should be able to upgrade legendaries" crowd, too.

I don't know. I'm a little put off by the fact that they could have done this at any time, but only choose to do so now that people are leaving in droves.

I remember begging for this feature literally *years* ago.

Raid finder?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Oh god, that's going to be hell unless they nerf the everliving crap out of all the raids (even more then they have). Even with a competent group Nefarian and Cho'Gal are still pretty difficult.

This is some bullshit if 4.3 is the last patch before the next expansion.

Cho'gall is easy as fuck. Nef is bad if you have idiot tanks.

The patch will release no later than three weeks after the TOR release.

THIS! Definitely can see them timing this right around the TOR release to try and combat EA's big MMO release. Which means if that is the case you're gonna be waiting at least probably 2 more months for the patch.

It's stupid to believe that Blizzards operating costs don't change when they have to introduce new features that directly affect their infrastructure.

The premium features Blizzard has introduced into WoW are completely accessory and optional and don't effect gameplay in any way shape or form. Hell, you can't even tell who in game has the premium features. They exist outside of the game in a way that requires Blizzard to modify their infrastructure to support them, and for that, I understand and acknowledge the cost of these services.

It doesn't affect you at all so I think it's funny that you complain about it.

Blizzard doesn't charge money for content patches, bug fixes, character transfers incited by server population issues, etc.

Blizzard has - since the beginning of WoW - only charged money for new services they introduce that have an obvious direct impact on their operating costs. For an obvious example, when Blizzard introduced character transfers they had to charge a fee for that because the server infrastructure never supported that beforehand.

Furthermore, they don't always charge money for these features. Cross realm battlegroups for battlegrounds, cross realm random parties for dungeons, and now they're backing off and allowing people to party their friends on other servers for free, mailing heirloom items across factions, across servers, among other things.

With all of that said I'm confident that if you honestly think that these premium features fees are being motivated out of greed or that you deserve them for free then I can say you're being extremely shortsighted.

Of course they're motivated by greed, they're running a fucking business.

Why are we talking about premium features and microtransactions, by the way? There wasn't any indication that any of this would have real money costs, was there?

Val'anyr in particular never looked all the incredible, but the raid-wide bubble effect on the mace proc was just plain cool-looking. It visually signified the effects of the weapon and that it was helping out the entire raid, the same as say, everyone getting larger during a Heroism/Bloodlust.

That kind of shit is cool. It's simple, but it's cool, and gives you a wonderful sensation of making an impact. Visual weapon procs all do.

So if anything, I was always hoping that the bubble-effect was something I could take with me to other weapons. Since I know Blizzard will never let me take the actual proc with me, I was hoping the visual effect alone could traverse weapons via Transmogrification, but I guess not.

There'll be lots of wiping but I don't think it'll be any worse than normal pugs. If you're guildless or in a strictly social guild where there aren't any good players, I don't think the experience will be much different. In these raids there'll often probably be groups of people who queued in together and just needed to fill a few spaces. The scary thing is I'm sure there'll be lots of situations where you'll be queued into a group who's spent the last 2 hours wiping on the first boss.

Okay, because apparently you're incapable of understanding why I would phrase it like that:

If you think that Blizzard is more deserving of criticism than any other company because of these things ...

I don't suppose you ever pay any company for a game, do you?

You mean I'll be able to let my Blood Elf Paladin sport his full set of Blood Knight gear, with the same stats as his heroic gear? I'm already there, bring it on.

All of this is way too little way too late.

To be honest I am not sure there is anything Blizz can do to get me back into this game again. I was a day one player and played solid for like 3 years. At this point I have come and gone now many times but I think I done for good now.

It just seems like Cata which was billed to be a "reboot" of certain areas of the game took it down a even worse path then Wrath did.

It was a good ride but I think I am done giving WoW my money.

Let me rephrase it for you because you're a condescending little shit:

I'd criticize any company that would sell such features.

That's not at all what you said; you're not "rephrasing" it, you're backpedalling. You personally attacked my understanding of how a business works.

If you'd just said that in the first place, I would have said that I could respect your point of view.

Stopped a little while after Cataclysm came out, only made it to 85 once, and I've barely done any raids in the entire game.

Tempted to come back GAF. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Well I just cancelled my sub 3 days ago, but i'll come back after this releases for a month just to check everything out.

That is, if it comes out less than 7 months since 4.2 launched.

Fuck me I just quit for real 2 months ago. I have every paladin set in the game and if they are going to let me use tier 6 again I will go back. They plan on weapons too? If I could use rag hammer, thunderfury or shadowmorne again that would be awsome!

Re-sub for a month when 4.3 hits

Don't come back now, it's going to be a while before this stuff is out

this game lost the entire concept of delayed gratification.
That's true, the whole 'instantly gear up with previous tier' using the dungeon finder to get instant groups has eliminated any patience the player base still had
