Okay, I really don't believe it's the PS3 hardware; because I'm able to Fold with no errors and load the browser and access websites.

But I'm frequently getting a DNS 80710102 error when attempting to connect to my PSN account. What's the deal with this?

I tried Googling it, but it's all a lot of iamnotgoodwithinternetcat.gif on various message boards where spaz gamers have no f@cking clue about home networking and the magical internet pipes. :|

Thus far, I'm more impressed with the PSP's networking capabilities than the PS3. PS3 is just slightly above NintendoDS in terms of wifi capabilities IMO right now.

well unless you've consistently had this problem for a while then the network is just having one of its typical ****ups. I remember a couple of times i kept getting "an error occured, you have been signed out" and it didn't resume working until the next day.

Do you have any fish nets in between your PS3 and router? The packets could be getting caught in the net in their travels.

If it works fine with Ethernet cable, but gives you errors with wifi, no need to Google. Just call Sony and get a replacement. Wifi should have nothing to do with DNS.

Yeah, like I said - it's intermittent connecting to the PSN; but everything else involving wireless communication with the Internet is fine. So it sounds like you're right, is this a common issue for a lot of folks?

I never, not once since launch, have seen a DNS issue on my PS3 when connecting to PSN. So no...it isn't a problem that is "common" or which Sony needs to work on. I suspect your router. You could look into your network setup, or just assume everyone in the world has the same issue as you but are keeping quiet about it. It's up to you.

And you're connecting wirelessly?

It's actually not an uncommon issue Googling it. There are plenty of folks having the same problem.

Just seems unusual as all my computers are fine, my PS2 connects fine, and my PSP is fine.

Yes. My router is in my living room, but my PS3 is in my bedroom. I use wifi all the time. I regularly play online, connect to PSN, and download content with no problems. The only issue I've had is the occassional disconnect from PSN after a long period of inactivity. It seems like the wifi will go to sleep or something like that, but reconnects as soon as you touch the controller.

As I said, not being able to find the Playstation Network because of a Domain Name Server issue has nothing to do with wifi. I'd investigate the router to see which ports are being blocked on the PS3's network connection.

By the way: Is there a reason you haven't called Sony tech support for this issue yet?

I'm having the same problem, but I couldn't fix it.
this is what i do as a temporary solution, turn on your PS3, log in to your profile, leave it for 10 ~ 15 minutes until it connects to PSN.

I'm tinkering with my router settings to see if something works better than something else. Tried B only, tried G only, trying the various channels.

I don't have any port blocking configured on the router; so that shouldn't be the issue.

So I'm soliciting the GAF brainpool for suggestions / input.

it might have to do with the SSID Broadcast. i had to disable it on my router to get it to work.

Wireless is susceptible to interference, so it isn't necessarily a problem with your console.

Bumping this as I have found a solution that is working. Or at least it appears to be so far.

Apparently PS3 doesn't like my router, so I had to disable UPNP on the router, and Media Server on the PS3. Now my connection is solid.

Might be helpful for anybody else with the same router.

Another solution is to upgrade the firmware for your router (since the link is to linksys forum, I guess you have one of them) to one of the custom ones (there's a thread about that around here) so you can use the media server as well.

Sometimes when you live in an apartment building or in a neigborhood everyone's wifi signal will cross each other and kinda scramble each other out. Try playing with the channels on your router it might help.

That's actually a really good idea. Multiple brands can cross the same channel. A lot of people don't realize that.

Yeah tried that. Changing channels did not work.

Disabling UPNP and Multimedia function fixed it. Download speeds are faster, other computers on my home network aren't getting booted off, and the PS3 connects and stays connected.
