WWDC10 Thread of iPhones and iProducts galore

Going casless/bumperless.

Love how it feels naked and it doesn't slip into my pocket smoothly with it on.

My name is RubxQub, and I'm an iPhone nudist.

Identified a really annoying problem with the bumper.

The hole around the headphone jack is too small for anything other than Apple headphones to plug into; I just tried to plug the iPhone into my car's MP3 port and the regular cable I use won't plug all the way in with the bumper attached. It's the damn iPhone OG recessed headphone jack all over again!

V. annoyed about this since I want to have the bumper on when I'm in the car and out and about. Might have to find an alternative cable that fits or go naked. No way am I digging out that absurd headphone adapter I had to buy for the iPhone OG; I think I threw it away when the 3G game out.

Can you dremel or at least cut away at it?

I might have to do that. The cable fits as-is well enough for audio to get through, but not always both stereo channels. If I shave away at the plug a little bit I can probably make it fit the rest of the way. Still annoys the piss out of me though. I thought we were past this.

Non-issue. Avoid dropping the phone onto surfaces with pebbles of great depth.

Deal with it.

Steve Jobs' response : "Just don't use non-apple headphones."

I had the same problem with the dock connector opening. My Fm transmitter won't fit. I needed an excuse to go naked anyway.

I drove past the mall where I checked out the line this morning. Twelve hours later, it still seems like there are just as many people waiting. Totally nuts, this has got to be the biggest iThing launch ever.

people are still in line waiting, wow.

Anyone have any experience with the skullcandy ear buds with the mic on them? Att.com has them super cheap and my experience with them has been really good so far. Is the mic worth a shit or should I skip them?

iWait, Apple's fantastic new product that will make people wait for hours on end to get a marginally better phone than the one they already have. June 2010.

Okay, FaceTime is a seriously awesome experience.

how interesting that it might also be their most complained about product in recent memory as well. could be a turning point for apple in more ways than one.

Why don't you just enlarge the hole?

I agree with everything except the "marginally".

Hard power down your phone and reboot it. That happened to me when I got a 3G and it happened to me when I got my 4.
Finally activated after over two hours. Had everything powered down.

Finally decided to just turn on my 3G and call 611 to talk to someone. Call failed, other phone activated right away. Lame but so glad it's done.

Cautionary tale for the rest.

Highly doubtful. On either point.

I have an iPod Touch and just got an iPhone 4. How do I get the apps I've already bought on the Touch onto the iPhone? I can't figure out for the life of me.

:(

just sign in to the app store using the same username and password u used on Touch

Re-download the apps. or hook it to your Itunes and sync

Sync to iTunes.

Everytime you connect you Touch to your computer it copies all the apps into your computer, which can then in turn be uploaded to any other compatible iOS device. (make sure you have apps set to sync in iTunes)

You could alternatively just download each app off iTunes again without fear of getting double charged.

a couple options.

1. hook up your iPod touch to iTunes and accept the “transfer purchases” prompt. everything you bought will now be in iTunes (it should always be in iTunes at one point, really). now hook up your phone to your computer and sync the apps you want in iTunes.

or

2. just redownload everything again on your iPhone. the store remembers what you bought and won’t charge you a second time. but you’ll lose your game progress and app preferences.

edit: beaten twice.

heh. it never ceases to amaze me how many people on this forum have problems with the concept of syncing the iPod to a computer.

Since Facetime just uses wifi for audio and video, does that mean future iPod Touch devices might get this feature too?
I realize there'd have to be an alternate way of 'calling' such a device.

I wish there was a standard for video calling.

I'm almost to the front. THE FINAL STRETCH. All in all, it will probably have been 5 hours by the time I'm out of here. Not that bad, considering. No bumpers at the store I'm at so I ordered off the apple store app for delivery.

Some of the folks in the non-reserve line have been here for 17+ hours. Yipes.

Yea it's ridiculous. My girlfriend works for a very rich venture capitalist firm in NYC and I've never seen her office... Until today. Awesome.

Sigh. :D I only asked this three pages ago. :lol Thanks tho, will hold out for a different cheaper case.

I'm definitely sitting in the soho apple store theater and they are showing us iPhone trailers in line...I like apple products and all, but this is a little much

I'll probably have to wait awhile before I even get to try FaceTime...no one is as cool as me yet around here :(

geeze, 17+ hrs, that's crazy!!! The line at my local mall this morning (around 8:45am) had about 1500 people on it, possibly more, and then tonight I went to said mall and they still had a line of about 150, but that was just for pre-orders only.

Kinda wish I was able to preorder it when I was at E3...

Welp, the Apple store I was at handed out tickets for people in line for them to pick up the phone tomorrow. Luckily, I had just got there and was looking at a 4-5 hour wait, so I guess I'll be getting it tomorrow.

I'd be surprised if we didn't see an iPod touch revision in the Fall that includes forward and front-facing cameras and FaceTime built in.

I'm still not sure what the bumpers are supposed to be protecting. The antennas?

Well, I know any damage I've ever had to an iPhone has been on the sides, so I guess it makes sense. I prefer the flip top cases personally.

I just did Facetime with my friend and it is seriously the most awesome thing ever. It was hilarious. It is a shame that it works over WiFi though, I would love to use this when randomly out and about. Hopefully it comes to 3G soon. The quality was seriously incredible though.

Judging by how long it took us to get MMS, I'm not looking forward to FaceTime over 3G anytime soon

It's 935pm here and I'm still in line at the Columbia, MD store. A out another hour or so to go :/

Were you in the pre-order or non pre-order line? When did you get there? I got there at 5:30 am, without a pre-order, and was about 20 people behind the cut-off so I ended up leaving and going to work. Do they still have non-reserves left? Any word on how many people picked up their pre-orders today?

What a day! 4 and a half hour wait, and that was WITH a reservation, but I came out with my 16GB. Still waiting for AT&T to kick in with my freaking service though. And incidentally, my brother, who tagged along with me but didn't get his reservation email so figured he was S.O.L., just went in, told the rep he reserved but didn't get an email, and walked out w/ a phone. Non-reserves line was crazy though. Probably a 10+ hour wait.

Just got mine. Love the screen. Really makes a huge difference.

So, is this thing Jailbroken yet? =D

Finally after almost 5 hours of waiting, got my 16GB iPhone. I'm having a problem with my sync pictures, I can see around 200 pics that I sync with itunes earlier when I select to pick a wallpaper but when I go to Photos, it says that ther are not photos available.

Anyone else having this problem? Any help?
