WWDC10 Thread of iPhones and iProducts galore

Shut up, Nuclear Muffin. Buy a goddamned 3GS or Droid then if you don't get it. Also what the last person to reply to you said. And the one before them.
Your comparison is invalid. The droid is closer to the iphone4 than it is to the 3gs.

Everything about this iPhone just screams overkill :lol

There's no need for such a ridiculous resolution screen. Just think of all that processing power that is being essentially wasted that could be spent on making apps look and run better instead of simply being run in high res. The old iPhone models already have very high dot pitch screens, pixels are already tiny!

802.11N, useless in all practical use. Good for the 1% of users who have N networks and don't want to bring down their network to G temporarily, but still offers no actual practical use and further drains the battery in the process.

Also, is a gyroscope really necessary? Somehow I don't see myself swinging my iPhone around like a Wii remote or a sword :lol

And typically, they don't give me the one upgrade I wanted most of all. Higher storage capacity (come on! a 64GB iPhone is LONG overdue!)

Still, its a much bigger upgrade than the 3GS was (which I thought was a disappointment). Will happily upgrade to iPhone 4 :D

BTW, does anyone know how it will upscale old iPhone apps (particularly 3D games). Also, does anyone know if it will be able to run iPad apps at a slightly lower resolution?

I find it funny that the one thing you really want is the one thing that has been proven to be most useless to the majority of people buying portable media players.

no offence intended. it’s just one of those things. you can’t please everyone, even with a hefty update like this one was.

my pc is faster than all your phones.

"You'll never need more than 64K of memory"

I need more than 32GB of storage dammit!

I'd gladly trade the gyroscope or the screen for double the storage space. That's what really annoys me. They go overboard with things you don't need and skimp on the one thing I need the most :lol

Not to mention with the higher res display, apps are going to get larger in terms of file size on average so that's an even bigger drain on your internal memory :(

Mind blown.

Edit: So is the gold version of the iOS4 out yet for devs?

Anyone else think the iPhone still has an ugly chin? It's bearable, but it just seems too long imo;

Maybe it's just me. Probably wouldn't be possible with how articulately they crammed everything in there. Then again they could increase the screen size thus making the thing fatter, but same height.

God you have no idea how much I hate people who put the speakers on their phones and blast out music. It's like they just want to scream out "Hey look, my phone can play music and I'm so hip"

uh cool? Next time we are sharing a hotel room with no radio I will pack headphones K? :lol

Or how about the time I took a 6 hour road trip in someones car that just had the radio stolen? He sure appreciated my phones ability to play music.

Or how about a useable speakerphone for you know making fucking calls when I don't have my hands free? Is that to much to ask? Get a bluetooth headset you say?

God you have no idea how much I hate people that walk around pretending to talk to people on their phones! It's like they want tot scream out "Hey Look, my phone has bluetooth and I have friends to talk to!"

maybe he hadn't been made aware of the Evo 4G.

I'll be over the Evo 4G if they get rid of the Android software and put in iOS4.

wish I can upgrade to the new iphone this year.

Went to att store, my mom picked up a 3gs for $150 seeing how the 3gs-8g doesnt exist.

About 5 other people were there picking up Iphones. it was getting crazy. I am trying to find out if apple.com will add the feature to "keep current plan" button to the pre order/order from online store. Because otherwise I have to go to the att store and pre order

I'll be all over the Evo 4G (3G) and iPhone 4 if they were on the Verizon network.

is Android really that bad? or are people exaggerating? I've never used it, so I don't know.

Well I only used it on my friend's mytouch and really didn't like it. I like the itunes eco-system.

He's exaggerating. Try it out for yourself. It's slick on the Nexus One, Hero, and Evo.

Let's not base impressions of Android off of the MyTouch. :lol

Holy crap, I'd love 64GB, but I would trade the exact opposite. I'd give away storage to get such a gorgeous screen and the gyro.

Oversimplifying a bit, but...

WiMAX: The CDMA 4G prelude, supported by Sprint, and about to be put to use.
LTE: The "GSM" 4G prelude, supported by AT&T, Verizon, Telus, Bell and Rogers, but it's not ready to go yet. Some of the networks have plans for 2011/2012, but it will require new phones and nobody's in a rush to spend the money.

It's somewhat glitchy and doesn't have nearly as many (polished) apps. as iPhone.

It's glitchy in the sense that it's not a completely closed environment, so you have to be more wary about what apps to install/managing your power.

YMMV

Believe me; that's exactly how it is with the current iPhones and I imagine it'll only be better with the iPhone 4. Well, except the white one I can promise anything with that new white face ;)

I really hope the iPhone's IPS screen is better in sunlight than the iPad's...

Bit disappointed in the Video Calling being WiFi only (for now).

3G video calling has been available in Australia for about 4 or 5 years now.

I blame AT&T for this, it will be the same like tethering, 3G video calling will probably be released for the rest of the world except America and then 2 years later, AT&T will dole out another crappy internet plan that is much worst and offer 3G video calling for 30 extra dollars.

I'm not the one complaining about adding features to make the phone more advanced. Complaining that the screen resolution is too high or that it has Wireless n? If he doesn't want those features, he can go buy an older generation phone that doesn't have them.

LCfiner said:
what do you mean, just software?

they added a second mic on top for noise cancellation.

of course it needs software to work, but they dded hardware to do what they couldn’t with just one mic.

AH OK. I wasn't sure about what they where canceling. You can cancel outside noise with one mic. Bose noise canceling headphones do this. But to separate speech from background you do need 2 mics. I just wonder if they are better quality. I also wonder how well or if it would work at all in the situations I use my iphone to record audio in.

No. It seems most people haven't used a decently powerful Android phone yet, but when you do it is wonderful. Android 2.1+ and a phone like the Droid, Incredible, N1, Evo, etc... will give you a good impression. The Google Experience is really nice, though it will take probably another year to get all the built in apps up to the quality of say the Gallery and Camera.

We can pretty much guarantee the videocalling and the 720p video/sharing features are the reason that AT&T changed to capped plans. The network simply could not have handled that kind of volume.

sweet, thanks.

I can only imagine how these same phones will respond to Froyo.

my iPhone contract is up and I'm on month-to-month. I can wait awhile and see what happens with Froyo and Flash. If all that works out well, I'll probably get into an Evo. too many things to like (hardware) for me to ignore.

I realize that, but the Droid is still closer to the 4 than the 3GS. Even more so once Froyo hits the Droid in a month or two.

Safari 5!

SAN FRANCISCO, June 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Apple® today released Safari® 5, the latest version of the world's fastest and most innovative web browser, featuring the new Safari Reader for reading articles on the web without distraction, a 30 percent performance increase over Safari 4,* and the ability to choose Google, Yahoo! or Bing as the search service powering Safari's search field. Available for both Mac® and Windows, Safari 5 includes improved developer tools and supports more than a dozen new HTML5 technologies that allow web developers to create rich, dynamic websites. With Safari 5, developers can now create secure Safari Extensions to customize and enhance the browsing experience.

"Safari continues to lead the pack in performance, innovation and standards support," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "Safari now runs on over 200 million devices worldwide and its open source WebKit engine runs on over 500 million devices.”

Safari Reader makes it easy to read single and multipage articles on the web by presenting them in a new, scrollable view without any additional content or clutter. When Safari 5 detects an article, users can click on the Reader icon in the Smart Address Field to display the entire article for clear, uninterrupted reading with options to enlarge, print or send via email.

Powered by the Nitro JavaScript engine, Safari 5 on the Mac runs JavaScript 30 percent faster than Safari 4, three percent faster than Chrome 5.0, and over twice as fast as Firefox 3.6.* Safari 5 loads new webpages faster using Domain Name System (DNS) prefetching, and improves the caching of previously viewed pages to return to them more quickly.

Safari 5 adds more than a dozen powerful HTML5 features that allow web developers to create media-rich experiences, including full screen playback and closed captions for HTML5 video. Other new HTML5 features in Safari 5 include HTML5 Geolocation, HTML5 sectioning elements, HTML5 draggable attribute, HTML5 forms validation, HTML5 Ruby, HTML5 AJAX History, EventSource and WebSocket.

The new, free Safari Developer Program allows developers to customize and enhance Safari 5 with extensions based on standard web technologies like HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. The Extension Builder, new in Safari 5, simplifies the development, installation and packaging of extensions. For enhanced security and stability, Safari Extensions are sandboxed, signed with a digital certificate from Apple and run solely in the browser.

Solid update. I haven't decided if I'm buying it yet...oh, who am I kidding? :lol

seems like such short time ago when the 3GS came out.

you one of those folks eligible for upgrade pricing? I’ve got my fingers crossed but I’m not too hopeful.

jailbreak FTW.

I guarantee inside of 2 weeks, devs will have created a hack to make the phone think it's on wifi when necessary.

In fact, they already have that for iPhones in the jailbreak community. I almost forgot about it because I never really used it. I believe it's called "3G unrestrictor" or something.

but what benefit is it to people with these new, horrible data plans?

c’mon website! update!!!

Any word on a graphics upgrade? The last graphics chip update was on the 3gs and on the 3rd gen ipod touches.

It's apparently using the same processor as the iPad so there should be a significant graphical upgrade (There would have to be one to have the apps running at 4x the resolution anyway!)
