WWDC10 Thread of iPhones and iProducts galore

Jony Ive design. The iPhone's been panned for having a crappy phone antenna, so they found a way to blend design and better (we assume) the reception in an elegant way.
And that's a reason to hype it up? lol

android is bad? :-(

I'm gonna have to try one of these phones out somewhere.

No, Android is widely regarded as being fantastic. That's why there's such a strong iPhone vs. Android argument on this forum all the time.

It's somewhat glitchy and doesn't have nearly as many (polished) apps. as iPhone.

Please, no one come here for opinions on Androids. I have a Droid. It isn't "glitchy". Some of the older phones like the MyTouch, maybe they are.

But to say Android, as a whole, is a glitchy OS, is false.

Also, I dumped Safari for Firefox, and dumped Firefox for Chrome. I can't see myself going back to Safari until I can import everything from Chrome back into it. Goddamn. Why can't all these browsers use a shared bookmarks and history cache? Would make so much more sense. But nooooo. They all have to roll their own. If they all had collaborated from the start we wouldn't have to keep exporting and importing all our shit every time we switch.

And none of the syncing apps I've found for Chrome work for me. Even if I didn't switch back to Safari, I'd still love to have my bookmarks synced so they sync to my iPod too.

On reason I like safari is that it sync my bookmarks perfectly with my phone and ipad.

I think Google bookmarks sounds like what you are looking for.

So having to wait for July to come around here in Europe, I'm gonna prepare my medias for the iPhone 4.

I want to take advantage of the new resolution, first question - I am fine ripping my DVD movie or would it be better to do it to a Blu-Ray movie? How much bitrate and what should all those technical settings be at?

Xmarks

Also, I can't see myself switching back to Safari. Too many damn crashes from (you guessed it) Flash.

Also no iTunes.com, no changes to Mobile.Me subscription. I guess that may come in September ?

iTunes in the cloud was never realistically an update for today.

mobileme going free was a last second wildcard. still want to see that at some point in the next 12 months but who knows?

I know. I love it. Too bad all my bookmarks are in Chrome.

Tried it when I switched. All it did was screw things up. Chrome's built-in Sync fucked up and now I'm afraid to turn it back on because the bookmarks that are on Google's servers are out of date and uneditable/undeletable and I am afraid Chrome will download all the old ones instead of uploading all the new ones.

Tried that too. Chromes version sucked and didn't work at all.

well to be fair apple did clarify one of the reasons that they reject apps and that is because they crash

and since android is an open market, which approves whatever app could technically be said that, yeah as a whole you're gonna see more glitchy apps

but i dunno bout calling the OS glitchy, it does still seem to run slow, maybe i havent seen the right phone(only seen a nexus one and a droid)

I currently can't login to the AT&T site but how soon will preorders be accepted? And on my account it says I'm not eligible to upgrade until the 27th of July, do you think they will permit me?

I figured MobileMe changes had a better chance happening today rather than September. The iPhone is a much more MobileMe sort of device than a iPod. I guess maybe with the iTunes.com cloud speculation it may happen there.

I was tentatively planning on getting one in August/September with the right reserved to skip this iteration altogether if I wasn't impressed, but god damn if I'm not drenched in impressiveness. The white one in particular is just dead fuckin sexy. Wasn't a big fan of the white 3G/3Gs, but the I4's redesigned glass shell & steel band look awesome in white.

As it turns out I just got an email asking for overtime volunteers.
This will make it easier for me to rationalize dropping another $200 on a phone in just 6 months time.

Day 1

*sigh*

Well, he's kinda right. Wimax is what's called a pre-4G technology. 4G is supposed to have 100 mbps speeds. Neither Wimax nor LTE has this currently. They're just using 4G for marketing sake. Don't make it right.

So basically the only thing anyone should care about is the higher resolution screen.
I would indeed be happy to see other phones use higher resolution screens.

My Nexus One with it's bullshit half-resolution red and blue pisses me the fuck off.

Wait, safari extensions have to be approved by apple?

"The new, free Safari Developer Program allows developers to customize and enhance Safari 5 with extensions based on standard web technologies like HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript. The Extension Builder, new in Safari 5, simplifies the development, installation and packaging of extensions. For enhanced security and stability, Safari Extensions are sandboxed, signed with a digital certificate from Apple and run solely in the browser

I don’t think being signed by a digital certificate means they need to be approved in the same way apps do.

They just recently upped this from $175 and reduced by 4 bucks a month as your contract goes on....to being $325 and reduced by 10 bucks a month as your contract goes on.

After a year you're looking at $205 to cancel your contract.

Thx for the info!

Heh, NBC nightly news is talking about the conference, and the iPhone 4, and the piece they highlight for the story is the "funny thing that happened, with this bigger, better, etc iPhone"... yup, they play the clip highlighting AT&T's network dropping :lol

I can, and will switch back to Safari, IF it proves itself worthy. I mean I love Chrome, but Apple has shown Safari and its more enhanced WebKit and extra features are the way to go. So it'll be a hard decision. But it's just getting so mediocre switching browsers every few months. I only switched to Chrome in January. And Firefox about 2 years ago. But Safari 5 will probably be the tipping point.

I just hope extensions have more access than Chrome ones, if not as much access as Firefox ones. Especially now that they're native and won't rely on hacking Safari with SIMBL and stuff like that to work.

I will need the following to switch:
- Personalized Web-like functionality where I can add customized CSS, JavaScript and HTML to any page or all pages
- Download bar (Chromes is not as good as Firefox's extension and Safari uses that old-world IE-like separate window) with automatic closing when files are finished and sounds when a file finishes like Firefox's DownloadBar
- Speed Dial that I can modify myself. Don't like Apple and Chrome's default "Most used" pages. I want Speed Dial!
- Session Storing.. THIS is the most important one. And the only thing that would be required 100%. I want to quit Safari and have all my tabs and histories remembered. Firefox does it. Chrome does it, but not as well. Once Safari does it, my tipping point will go a whole 50%

Those are really the only important ones so far. I'd also want a DownloadHelper (Flash Video detection and downloading) and DownloadThemAll style extension

It looks good, but it will make the screen look darker because theres white around it versus if there was black around it.
I am thinking that now too. I was all about the white phone at first, but seeing video of the screen makes me think the wide border will make the screen pop less. I will wait to see it in person, and then continue to drool over the phone until it moves from AT&T. And I will be strong and not get an Android in the meantime.
