WWE Smackdown! VS RAW 2007 - PS3 Version Canceled

WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007 is not published probably on PS3: the title comes for PlayStation 2, PSP and Xbox 360. Background is that the PS3-Version became substantially later finished only than the other versions, so that the developer team rather concentrates resources on the three other platforms.

Wow, that is pretty big. When is it coming out? If it isn't substantially before November, that's an issue.

If the game is being released in September, I could see why they would rather just wait till next year, but wow.

Is that actually english? I'm a bit hungover so it could just be me.

It's a translation from the official german forum. I just babelfished it, the guy is the site admin for THQ Germany.

thats basically a ps2 franchise...interesting turn of events

does it mean...we see more cancellations down the lines

360 gets exclusives by accident, next gen? hmm

Actually, now that I look, there is no PS3 page at all on THQ's site. Is it officially cancelled or was it just never announced on the site?

Is that cancellation story generated because the game was actually cancelled by THQ or is it because there is no information on the site?

I recall seeing an entry on Gamefront around 2 weeks ago saying that it had been postponed to at least 2007 for the PS3, so an outright cancellation seems fairly plausible.

It was posted by Max Steller, the site admin for THQ Germany's online site.

Looking at the site, someone stated 'preview for WWE for the PS3' and Max replied with that with the subject 'probably not for the PS3'.

Dont they normally sell a few million copies...interesting to see what ps2 fans decide, for finding their fix

they waited a year for their ps3...will they wait another for their favorite genre?

If they're PS2 fans then they'll buy the PS2 version. THQ probably figured that the PS2 version would greatly outsell the PS3 version anyway so it's not a big deal to cancel the PS3 version.

cool...but this could lead to negative perceptions of ps3 multi-platform games...if another popular franchise, does the same thing

This hurts everyone. It makes the 360 version look like an up-ported PS2 game, so fewer people will want the next generation version.

Perhaps THQ figures PS3 buyers can still play the PS2 version on their PS3?

Upsampling isn't going to add texture resolution, shaders and polygons though is it? It's a strange move, but I guess they need to make the right decisions with the license.

Wow... that IS pretty huge to get outright canceled because it was taking too long - not even a delay...

Not according to the explanation given from THQ, no... they were actually making it... all versions were announced at the same time...

Wrestling games always do big, and it's definetely THQ's biggest sales source, so there had to be some big problems that made them cancel it altogether...

Intersting. I wonder if this is due to it being started later, or due to difficulties with the hardware.

Porting is probably a tricky buisiness this generation, heck look how subpar Madden and Tiger look on the PS3 right now. The PS3 version doesn't even have 3D crowds in Madden at this point in the game, or drop shadows, and it STILL ran worse than the X360 version at E3.

Good. It looked like crap from what i remember.

And thus harmony is acheived. :)

One thing is for sure, the 360 is obviously the lead development platform for this generation. I think MS is starting to see the fruits of that one year headstart and if they keep this up im not sure Sony will be able to do much to regain dominance here.

Should be interesting, i guess we will see how much pull metal gear and final fantasy have on the American market.

Isn't that like EA saying they would not launch Madden 07 on ps3 because it missed the regular date? I think the price point + cost of porting is making some devs take a waiting stance on how well the ps3 is gonna do early on here.

WWE has come to an agreement on the (non)release of Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 as of today, July 23, 2006. WWE wishes the PS3 the best in all future endeavors.

Next comes TNA or drug overdose.
