X06 Mass Effect 480p Footage (direct download)

I think EGM got the wrong scoop. I don't see Microsoft buying Capcom... but I absolutely believe they are buying Bioware, and soon.

They don't need to really....Bioware to MS is what Insomniac is to Sony. The fall into the newly coined (yes, by Luke) word, "2nd party."

They have a good relationship with MS and MS provides them with helpful development knowledge (most likely). They haven't had any problems, and their game's performaces on the xbox were nice. Overall, Bioware is fine staying "2nd party."

MS should go and buy CAPCOM though....not that it's going to happen, but it would be something cool to talk about for a week if it did end up happening (which it won't)

Didn't Bioware recently pseudo-merge with other companies so they could help keep their independence?

And 2nd party's not a new word.

uhm it says "quicktime does not have the necessary software to play this movie" - what software do i need?
my QuickTime played it fine .. I'm quite sure the latest version of QuickTime (QuickTime 7.x) can play it, without needing additional software (the video is encoded with H.264)

Nah, but I've heard the idea kicked around long before the Q caught a whiff of it.

Besides, it just makes sense. Bioware was squarely in Microsoft's corner last gen and are supporting them in a big way with the 360. Every time Chris Priestly says anything about "his wonderful friends at Microsoft" it's always gushing.

I'll be surprised if they aren't sewn up by the end of 2008 after Mass Effect proves to be another golden franchise.

Also, didn't BioWare just start a new division to focus solely on development for the Nintendo DS?
I'm pretty sure Rare continues to support Nintendo portables, don't they?

I read that. Just like I'm sure Rare will make a DS game at some point in the future. But as long as MS is publishing Bioware's games and those games keep selling, I definitely don't see their relationship ending. Of course, KOTOR would continue under Obsidian I believe, if that franchise goes on.

I seriously hope Bioware doesn't get bought out by Microsoft. I don't mind them being a Microsoft second party, but I very much like Bioware to have their independence, especially when it comes to making the types of games they want. I'll be quite angry if Bioware is bought out and forced to make mostly console styled games. I have no problem with them making 360 games, but I also want them to make PC games as well. If Microsoft buys them, they'll most likely be pushed heavily towards console development and their PC output becoming increasingly sparse.

Graphically, Mass Effect looks very nice. I'm sure the story will be very good, especially with the branching conversations. I'm not 100% sure about the gameplay yet though.

I highly doubt that. Bioware's PC franchises are wildly popular and huge sellers. If MS did snatch them up, you can be guaranteed that they will continue to devote a large chunk of development towards "Games for Windows."

In fact, it's quite possible that it could actually prove to be a great thing for the Baulder's Gate and NWN series, as they'll have access to those bottomless Microsoft resources.

yeah apparently i had the older quicktime (6.x) - funny cause the updater kept saying everything was up to date

also is it just me or does the frame rate seem classic bioware?
im hoping they sort it out for real and it plays as smooth as gears of war !

Other than the frame rate being janky (hey, it's not a final so I can deal with that), that was a **** awesome video. This is the game I'm going to be purchasing an X360 for. Does this have a release date (I'm guess not since Bioware is one of those "when it's done" developers)?

The frame-rate is pretty jumpy, but look at Gears of War. That game had frame jumps all over the place in early development, but it's smooth as silk now.

I have faith that this will look as good as Gears and run as well, if not better.

Just awesome. This is why I'm buying an Xbox 360.

You sure it's not your computer? It was absolutely fine on mine.

Well, the frame-rate is consistent for the majority of the footage. But I noticed some parts where it was noticeably lower than 30 frames.

It's not my computer. My computer can run 1080p videos without any problems. I'm pretty confident that it can handle a 480p video.

Wow, that was just awesome! The combat seems pretty good, especially for an RPG. Nice visual effects on the 'magic'. Awesome vehicle. Really, good stuff! Great music!
