XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

This thing isnt really priced from a value standpoint, its priced from "I want it enough to pay that much" standpoint. People who will buy this controller dont care how much it costs or if the features even add up to that. they just want this thing at whatever price the seller asks for.

Obviously this is not designed to replace your original Xbone controller. I can see that MS is aiming this for premium market.

Let ppl spend their money however they may see fit. On the other hand, obviously this is not going to get the market penetration if that was MS's goal in the first place.

At times like this, it really is a reflection of the Neogaf user base.

Either this site is full of children with no income, people living at the poverty line, or those who will never earn more than the minimum wage.

The amount of people crying over a $150 is eye opening.

Guess what? This isn't a requirement. It's apparently a premium product and somewhat of a premium price.

And if by some chance, a $150 is enough to make you question your life and how this purchase might put you out on the street, you're in the wrong hobby and this elite controller isn't for you.

OK Internet tough guy. Get back to your model girlfriend who is totally into threesomes and your Ferrari.

Might wanna check the median wage too ;).

No. I was talking about the many people in this thread specifically that are scoffing at the price like someone insulting their parents.

People are behaving like Phil Spencer is creating a secret force that will break into everyone's house at night, steal their controllers, and force them to buy this thing.

It's really not that difficult. If someone thinks this is too expensive, it's not for them.

The only thing that those people reinforce is either their deep desire to own the product, but can't. Or their need to trash Microsoft for whatever reason.

Who knows. Maybe this thing will fail and be on sale for half the price 6 months after release. I'm sure at that time, people will complain about paying that much for a failed product. It really never ends.

Damage control in full effect

I imagine the audience for this product is the hardcore equivalent of guys who spend $xxx on custom wheel setups for driving games and flightsticks.

It's not being advertised as a standard replacement product and the standard product isn't being removed from circulation.

What is the outrage for?

You can complain about the price all you want, nothing wrong with that. But when you start asking us WHY things cost as much as they do, don't be surprised if rudimentary economics is your answer.

Well, if the answer is "economics" then we'll have to wait and see how the market reacts.

Looks amazing IMO.

Steam controller does that and more for fraction of the price.

And if Steam Controller is using using cheaper materials and is less well constructed then so be it. Also Steam Controller is single analog. Functionally they're extremely similar, but so are any two smartphones, and look at the price range in that market.

Custom controllers are not cheap from other places. $150 sounds good to me if they are high quality then I'm in for 2.

This so much. It is an elite controller, with a high price tag for the components and what it does. It is not being forced onto anyone. If you have the money, you have the option to buy it or not to buy it, not sure what is so hard about that for some of you to understand. Yes, $150 is a lot to ask for a controller, but it is not like you are being forced to buy one.

If you think it is too much for yourself, then keep using the regular controller. If you want the Elite for the features you get with it, then you pony up the funds. It is like anything that is of a higher build quality, usually better things cost more money.

I don't know why people are being so acrimonious about this (I hope I used that word right).

It's just another option. Some people don't want it, some do. We're not forced to pick one or the other. I see this as a good thing.

I think of course it'd be nicer if it were cheaper, but I think they priced it competitively with products that would be competing with this.

It uses the new bumpers.

Hopefully people will get a chance to pick one up. It's heavy and the fit-and-finish is amazing. The sticks are stainless steel. There is a delrin bushing in each thumbstick cavity that is silky-smooth and should basically never wear out. There are two profiles that remember your settings and follow you to different consoles.

This is not a minor cosmetic special-edition. Watch the videos with the dev team. We worked closely with a bunch of pro gamers to really refine every aspect. We don't expect it to sell in huge volumes. For us, this was about building the best most premium controller we could make, and the price came out that. When you feel it in person, I think you'll see where that $150 went.

I want this post framed on my wall.

Day 1

I guess that's a pretty decent price point considering the Scuf can go for upwards of $180. We'll have to see if it's as versatile though.

Can't wait to get a chance with it. How's the new surface/coating on it?
