XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

You can buy two full-priced current gen video games for this price.

Plus, of course, a season pass for one of those games (but not Arkham Knight).

Why I am going to be grabbing this controller even if it's just for PC.
90% of the reason I didn't fire my weapon in this clip is because my thumb was off the stick as I tried to revive teammates.
Also, the quality.

I decided to preorder one of these after watching the vidoc, and thinking about how ideal the custom map buttons 'n paddles would be for Halo 5.

Normally I'd wait for quirks to be fixed and prices to drop for something like this though, so I hope there's nothing faulty about it out the gate.

By the way, you can just hook this and the standard Xbox One controller up to the PC with the included USB cables, right? Or do you require one of those wireless adapters?

This notion that this controller is mostly PC-oriented is frankly making my head spin. This is a controller designed to circumvent control issues that PC control alternatives already circumvent. This is a controller designed for playing games like Halo 5 and Battlefield 4 on Xbox One. Although it'll make for a nice PC controller, I keep seeing people post that it's more a PC-oriented controller than an Xbox one, when it stands to offer a lot more to competitive gamers on Xbox than on PC.

Indeed, if I get it it'll be mainly for the Xbox One button remapping, although the build quality and the paddles follow close behind. Not having to worry about the controller presets on a console? I'd say an extra 90 bucks is almost worth that alone; think about how many people complain about that issue in almost every game ever.

Gonna pair fantastically with Halo 5.

Thanks I appreciate the details ~ will probably grab one at some point

I've been informed by a friend who works in retail that these cost less than $50 to produce. (it's available to him for a discount at just above cost)

If anyone is considering one of these it would be advisable to wait. There's a huge markup and that will probably translate to a deep discount at some point.

I wouldn't count on a discount anytime soon. MS knows the buzz is good and they are extremely competitively priced with the competition. But who knows, MS has been doing some crazy things lately.

As for the mark up. I understand the value, so I am ok paying the price set for it.

This is a luxury item made for a specific demographic. If you don't have the money then yes, save and wait for a sale. It's not a necessity and it's not going to make your life better if you can't afford it. No one is going to look down at you if you don't own one immediately or at all for that matter.

I am not hurting for money but still plan ahead and make sacrifices in other areas of spending to get something I want. I am ok with being a first adopter if I see value there.

So, it's pretty simple, if you don't see the value at this price but still want one then save and wait for a price drop, but it might be a while. If you see the value at this price and have the money, then go for it.

oh I have it pre-ordered. This thing is sexy as hell, but very overpriced. I know I'm part of the problem.

Sony better take note. This controller may convince me to start buying multiplats on X1 for the first time ever.
Sony's controllers are already $75 here (Canada), so a premium controller from them would not be cheap (nor would I expect, or want it to be).

I don't know about that, a non-essential specialty controller (that doesn't really have a large retail footprint) doesn't seem like a likely candidate for a big price drop. I see fight sticks for $150-$200 regularly that have been out for years with no price drop.

I'd still have to buy the wireless PC adapter. MS got me to pay $175 for a controller. Good job.

Needs Mtn. Dew faceplates. And... $150?!

Do want bad though... do want indeed.

Will wait until the price stabilizes ... [ spoiler ]to $30 at my nearest pawn shop [ / spoiler ]

If you could have used this with mass effect 3,no enemies would have survived the onslaught bro ;)

Follow the thread...

It has already been established that this controller has not been created to compete against the standard One controller.

It's market is currently occupied by SCUF and Cinch, who sell at a higher price point.

At this time, we might as well start complaining about the cost of all luxury items. After all, you could buy multiples of other stuff for the cost of one single lux item.

It's not overpriced if you bought it anyway. :)

Sony doesn't have to do anything. Scuf will do it for them. If MS want to take a bite of the niche market Scuf has on Xbox, Scuf will naturally expand it's PS4 catalog.

I am wagering that Sony's build quality is better than SCUF's...

I own a SCUF ONE, and what I see from the Elite blows them out of the water....

It's pretty funny how defensive you are over the price

S/he made a reasonable comparison - you CAN indeed buy two full-priced games for the price of one Elite controller. It wasn't even a raving hate post, people are free to discuss the price if they want to.

I am not defensive about cost. However, I am baffled how some have still not equated the product to a luxury item...

Carry on though.

I can buy 10 FIATS for the cost of a Ferrari.... etc....

And this is obvious from Lamonster's post how?

Because of the comparison that the poster makes, where the luxury item is compared to the purchase price of two games etc..

If you understand that the item is indeed a luxury, then to make those sorts of comparisons is akin to saying that I could buy 4 Moto Gs for 1 iPhone 6... Or [insert your apples to oranges here]

If you are making those comparisons, then you still have not fully understood that the product is a luxury item.

The more I see of this controller, the more I want one, especially considering the SCUF controllers aren't that much cheaper...

Is it just me, or do the paddles look more comfortable to press on the Elite vs. The SCUF One?

I follow your logic, but I can't say I agree at all. If they were to say you could get two standard controllers for the price of one elite controller, I'd agree - it would sound like they didn't quite understand the concept (I'd still let them be because what do you think you're gonna achieve by saying "you don't understand the point of this item" to anyone who says it's expensive anyway?)

I love how you used the "apples to oranges" saying there, because that's what this is - a video game isn't necessarily a mundane item, and an expensive controller certainly isn't it's luxury counterpart. You're making it into something it's not.

With all due respect but...so?

My Razer fight stick cost enough to buy three full priced current games and a season pass. Buying more games would not address the desire for a high performance controller.

You can buy both PS3/X360 for price of 1 bose headphone. I dont see your point.

Or you can buy 10 meal for price of 1 video game.

SCUFs are more expensive.

And you are probably right, the paddles on the Elite look like they are more comfortable.

I don't think there is anything wrong with using opportunity cost to asses value. It's a legitimate way to do so. Some might desire two games others the controller.

Just depends on what each person values.

Only controller I'd buy for the Xbox One at that price would be a quality fightpad for Killer Instinct. Not really into shooters. I don't have a problem with people paying that amount of money for a controller, I paid much more for those Sega Saturn style PS2 controllers.

That's "cost" to the store. It costs considerably less than $50 to produce one of those. It's no more than $20 to produce for certain.

Costs (wholesale or production) are irrelevant. Pricing is not the same for everything so it's futile to try and compare MSRP to what you believe it should cost.

For example, the windshield for a BMW costs less than $10 but dealer cost would likely be closer to $1000.

It looks really nice but that's just more than I'm willing to spend on a controller. Heck I think $60 is too much to spend on a controller, I wait for sales and knockoffs.

This may have been brought up earlier, or perhaps not revealed, but my biggest problem is accidentally hitting the right stick button during multiplayer. Will the app allow for disabling buttons, such as this?
