XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

Major Nelson's latest podcast talks with the creator for about 45mins with some great info. It starts around 7mins and finishes close to 54mins.

Might have missed some stuff because I suck at summarising!!

How I understood it is that the app can handle more than 255 profiles but the controller can "only" store 255 profiles internally (on the controller) where you can map two of these as active templates. Was already detailed in one of the interviews the "KINDA FUNNY" guys made at E3, iirc.

There's a 2 way switch kind of thing to select the profile, I get the limitation.

I mean it's probably targeted towards pro gamers so this that's enough

They said you can store 255 profiles within the app but can only have 2 saved to the controller at any one time. You can go back-and-forth and add them from the app to the controller as often as you like.

* 9 foot (2.8 metres) braided nylon USB cord will ship with the controller

Finally someone realizes that we don't sit two feet from our TV when playing! Lol. I actually use my Xbox controller cable when charging my DS4 controllers too cause it's much longer than the one Sony gave.

Def keeping my eye on this controller. Just need to find a few games to use it with that I know I'll be sinking a LOT of time into. Forza is one but I'm probably getting a wheel for that. We shall see!

The paddles are in the wrong spots, yes? Longer should be flipped and on the bottom?

As I understand it, they're all interchangable and have the same connector, so you can use them in whatever configuration you want. You could even put both longs on one side and both shorts on the other if you wanted.

But yes, the setup they've usually shown has the longer ones in the lower slots, flipped the other way.

Also, on the Majors podcast they said that double tapping the sync button activates and deactivates the paddles, which I thought was a neat little feature.

They had this set-up at E3, and I used it with Forza Motorsport 6. The extra buttons/tabs/whatever didn't seem to do anything special in the demo, but it was definitely a sweet-looking and feeling controller.

I like the metal part at the top and the new d-pad thing. The sticks also had the Forza logo on them.

I don't think I'll get it, though. That's too much for one controller.

Kinda looks like one would hit the other one on the way down, doesn't it? Unless they don't move much. And both configurations were supported, so it should work, just looks weird.

They don't seem to move too much. At least from what I could tell with about 10 minutes of hands-on time.

That is one sexy controller. My only real use would be to play FPS's that let you do silly crap like drop shot and jumping and shooting. And I'll be playing those on PS4 since I have no xb1 friends :(

MS staking claim to best controller for console and pc. I hope the build quality is better than I've seen from the DS4 and Xbox One controllers.

Would this controller enable me to set automatic or delayed sprint on games (aka Titanfall) or is that a gamecode thing that's non-programmable?

Why do developers insist on the constant jab motion that it takes to run? I would remove stick jab motions and move the weapon stab to a paddle in a split second.

Will this make left stick or left directional better for fight games?

I want one considering I've replaced two Xbox controllers through warranty allready, only had my Xbox for just over a year. I'd say the ps4 controller is more durable which sounds crazy, but then Again I've had analog covers on that since basically day one.

How do casual multiplayer fans feel about this? I don't play online often but I'd think this would be really frustrating for casual CoD/ Halo/ etc. fans who know they won't get this and now have to contend with people who can jump/ reload/ etc. without taking their thumbs off the sticks.

Ruh oh. My pre order on Amazon says "delivery date pending" or "we will email you when available".

And while I know that an official date isn't known, I've never had this happen on a pre-order before. Anyone else that has one through Amazon, does your order say the same?

I'm kind of wondering if my order got bumped out of what they can fill, hence the we will email you when available. Of course this could all be normal and this literally means they will email me when the release date is known. If so my apologies. I've just never seen that status before with a pre-order.

Not to frighten you, but gamers on PS4 and Xbox One are already facing off against people with controllers like this. They're called Scuf controllers and they're very popular. Also very expensive. More so than the MS controller.

I get a significant discount on these at my job which brings them down to lower than the MSRP of the regular controller. Definitely picking one up even though I don't have an Xbox One yet lol

I hadn't heard of those. Doesn't seem like they're any more expensive than the Elite, but I'm guessing the Elite is going to be more widely available and visible to the average person.

The Elite also has a bunch more going for it with all the tweaks and remapping you will be able to do and quality wise, I dare say the Elite is going to be more durable and made of much better quality parts and components. Those Scuf prices are just the standard controller btw, it gets up a lot more once you add the paddles and anything else you want.

Interesting my xb1 controllers don't have any rubber on the sticks.

Yeah they do. There's a rubber-like material that forms the grip part of the thumbsticks. My thumbs apparently sweat acid, that wears down the grip part into a smooth surface which I dislike. I had the same issue with 360 thumbsticks, too. Usually on the left one first, then the right one. I've bought aluminum thumbstick replacements for both my xbox one controller and DS4 from ebay for about $2 each.

they said they are working with a 3rd party and replacement packs will be available day 1 but not from MS themselves

Good to know, thanks. Can't wait for this thing.

On the PC, can you remap the underside levers to functions that aren't a current button? I.e. remap them to a keyboard key or something?

I assume you can't in XB1, because the only input device is the gamepad, but curious if you can use it on PC to effectively add 4 extra buttons to a gamepad.

I was playing Witcher 3 the other night and thought it would be cool to pick 4 signs directly instead of the wheel

I'm gonna say probably not through the official app, but there will probably be some third party stuff that will do it at some point. Hopefully they'll support that, though.

black and white face buttons again? there was nothing wrong with the black button and colour letters style and easier to work out at a glance.

For $150 there sure as hell better be good build quality. What's your gripe with the build quality of current XB1 controllers?

black and white face buttons again? there was nothing wrong with the black button and colour letters style and easier to work out at a glance.

I imagine this is due to button mapping in that the colors could be misleading to the player. E.g., if jump is "A" and a player changes it to "Y," and a tutorial assists by showing a green button to press, then this could be an issue since a yellow button would need to be pressed. However, you'd think whoever was changing buttons like that would be able to discern the difference considering they created the difference.

Dem premium add-ons.

It would be neat if MS added an API that devs could hook into that would allow their games to see the current mappings, and adjust the tutorials to match.

You'd expect that no mappings would have been made to a new game, and that a user would play the game with defaults before tweaking it themselves.
