XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

who makes a living from playing xbox one ? a hundred persons ? two hundred ?
"competition" is a joke on consoles for most genres. Fighting games have sticks, racing sims have wheels.

This is relevant to people who play games at a tournament level, people who play competitively who have the cash and enough desire as enthusiasts to engage this sort of thing, and people who stream and record content through online channels. Might not be the biggest niche, but not everything has to cater to everyone.

Sorry for the dp. Error from my side i guess

Anyway i am not buying this at this price. Not because i cant afford it. Sure i can . But the price of a controller that is almost half the price of a new xbox one with a friggin controller is not acceptable. It's a matter of prespective

Either this site is full of children with no income, people living at the poverty line, or those who will never earn more than the minimum wage.

I make plenty. I spend a couple thousand dollars a year on video games. That has absolutely nothing to do with what I consider a fair price.

I wonder what else Elite branded products they have coming?

Seems like a new brand for premium products

Xbox | ELITE
Not for plebs like you. Git gud.

"The most basic option is the ability to reassign controller buttons wherever a user desires—and because this change exists on the controller itself as opposed to within the console's settings, Microsoft engineers insist that this will reduce any lag issues caused by button reassignments."
Which is a total load of crap given that it doesn't cause a problem on any other platform.

At times like this, it really is a reflection of the Neogaf user base.

Either this site is full of children with no income, people living at the poverty line, or those who will never earn more than the minimum wage.

The amount of people crying over a $150 is eye opening.

Guess what? This isn't a requirement. It's apparently a premium product and somewhat of a premium price.

And if by some chance, a $150 is enough to make you question your life and how this purchase might put you out on the street, you're in the wrong hobby and this elite controller isn't for you.

How is this about income? sorry but very few people will buy this just like zune, windows mobile and surface because microsoft is out of touch with reality just look at the xbox one price drop.

lol at premium.

Hahahaha, yep, great attitude to have. It's not the pricing that's the problem, it's all the poor people

I hope MS does a good job of getting these out in the public for hands-on testing, because whether you can afford it or not, I doubt there's going to be too many people willing to fork over $150 for a controller sight unseen (or hand unheld in this case).

they did say premium lol, doesnt strike me as too different from the extravagant mice and keyboards that are in a similar price range.

Eh. Ill probably make a drop on it. I've wanted a scuf in the pat, but something about 3rd party kept me away from it. I'll have problem dropping on this. $150 for the thousands of hours I'll put into the console for the rest of the generation is fine by me.

:)

I guess this controller was named for the type of people who buy it. Get the fuck out of here with that bullshit generalization. Just because people (me included) don't think this mass produced controller is worth $150 doesn't mean they are children with no income, living in poverty or on minimum wage.

Yet they did it during E3 and completely left off the price tag that would turn average consumers away. A few buzz words that plenty of gamers want to believe represents them and features they think they'll benefit from does not change the fact that it was debuted in front of the largest crowd possible of media that largely caters to a less competitive audience.

You don't really understand how big the competitive community is, do you?

I think this is far more applicable to gaming than say a heart rate sensor, the wii-fit or the wonderbook.

At the end of the day, it's going to be at best the third most expensive accessory shown off today.

Which is a total load of crap given that it doesn't cause a problem on any other platform.

I wasn't defending the fact there wasn't an option, i was merely showing you it's done in hardware.

Heh - this is pretty condescending.

I would say this forum is full of people who earn their own money and as such appreciate the the value of their hard earned cash.
I have enough money to buy his without thinking twice. But for me the product doesn't justify the price.
It's not about bragging how much cash you have, it's about "bang for the buck". 150$ is way too much for a standard controller with optional plastic bits and pieces.

If the build quality is up to the task then what's the problem? This is a premium product designed for a niche hardcore audience. MS isn't forcing anyone to pony up $600 so they can have 4 fancy new controllers for party night.

"hurp, if you can't afford it get a job and if you can why are you complaining durp"
Because the price is ridiculous?
Why should i care if this isn't a required peripheral?

The price is ridiculous based on what? Do you know what the components cost? What R&D cost for this thing? Perhaps you could share those numbers with us? Or what kind of return Microsoft is expecting over the 1-5 years if this thing makes it that long.

It's ridiculous to you.

It isn't to me.

The price of any product is only what the market will bear. We will know soon enough if $150 is too much for this product. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

I'm actually a fiend for controllers. I end up with 8-10 controllers by the end of a gen. I'll buy this eventually. Once I feel like dropping 2 1/2 new games worth of money on it.

Yeah, I have a dozen controller options when I sit down to play a game on my computer (if we count m/kb) and still seek out new stuff.

I'll wait for this to sell poorly and be discounted to $90 or less.

You can boil down most of the best mice/keyboards on the market to just that "an expensive standard controller with optional plastic bits and pieces". That doesn't mean they shouldn't exist or don't serve a certain market.

Please explain to me why this is worth $150.

The price is a boner killer, but that is one mighty fancy lookin controller

If it doesn't break as fast as the cheap shit MS and Sony stuck in the box with their consoles, it'll be a wise investment (for me). I've had to buy 2nd and 3rd dual shock 4s because of broken triggers and shitty analog sticks. Had to buy a 2nd XB1 controller when the left analog stick pretty much just stopped going back to its home position.

There's a difference between not being able to afford something, and thinking economically. The fact of the matter is that most people on GAF could probably afford to buy this controller, but why should they when there are more important things out there that their hard-earned money could be better spent on?

This thread is so strange... If this was the first product to exist in this market maybe I would understand it.

This is like going to a thread about the 980 TI and having people saying "Who would spend 700 on a graphics card?"

Or a thread about the K95 and seeing people say "Who would spend 200 on a keyboard?"

The enthusiast market exists guys, sorry that some of you just finding that out now...

I think I might splurge on this when it comes out.
I buy expensive-ish keyboards and mice because I'm constantly using them, so it's important that I like them.

I'm okay with splurging for a controller because I'd be constantly using it.

$150?! Damn......was really hoping it was around $80-90 or something. Too much for me but I'm definitely gonna wait for reviews/impressions and might get it later if it turns out to be really good.

This isn't a custom controller. It's a mass-produced controller.

That is a fair point, but if you want to get a controller with all these "pro" features, you will have to pay $150+

It is more than just a standard controller. It even comes with customisable options in the box, so you can flip and change components out with relative ease.

People were hyped by it, of course, and then turned off by the price.

The reality is though, if you want/need these controller options, then be prepared to pay the price for it.

Already have been using a Scuf One for 1.5 years and never regretted it. After having that level of control, never having to take my thumbs off the left or right stick to hit the ABXY buttons feels amazing especially in FPS. Going back to a controller without paddles always feels like I'm playing something archaic lol

I am interested how this one feels since the paddles are done very differently than the scuf style.

But it's a first (I think) on console. Like do we even have a game that people can earn their living on xbox? Honest question. On PC f controllers just use mouse/kb instead.

Holy shut 150 dollars? That better be a damn good controller.

I might get one for PC if it ends up being useful.

$150 is a big ask with all the other HW coming out in the Fall/H1 window (Steam Pad, Oculus, Vive, Morpheus, potentially Hololens), even for high rollers like OneOneSeven.
