XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

The amount of ignorance here is stupefying...

The Elite controller is not marketed or designed to replace the regular One controller. It is positioned feature-wise and price point to battle SCUF and other custom controller products.

-It is cheaper than those products

-It has more features than those products.

-It is compatible with ALL X1 games.

-It is not necessary to play certain games. The Elite will not transform you into a MLG pro

-It probably is better constructed than those products.

Knowing all of this, I am still scratching my head why posters are coming in here and saying:

-It is too expensive..... (It is cheaper than a SCUF by $50 conservative estimate)

I refuse to believe that we are that clueless. Better people than me can refer to the price of a A-10 Warthog HOTOS for sims, Thrustmaster Steering Wheels, Hori Arcade Stick Pros for fighters or shumps.....

Enough of this $150 is too much nonsense. If it is too much for you, then I respect that. But this product is targeting a market that is willingly paying $200+ for controllers.

Best regards,

great info

Here is some additional context.

Elite level controllers

Thrustmaster HOTAS Wart Hog Joystick: $407. Perfect for Star Citizen. But why buy when you can play SC with a Mouse and Keyboard?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00371R8P4/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Mad Catz Pro Racing Force Feedback Wheel and Pedals for Xbox One: $394. But why buy when a regular controller works just fine?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GSJAQ9W/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Hori Real Arcade Pro: $149. Perfect for SFV..... But why buy when a DS4 will do?

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ND0EBQ8/?tag=neogaf0e-20

We buy because we want and it makes us feel good :)

High quality bearings, aluminum sticks, premium components all around. The reason for the pricing does not elude me, but I will wait for a BF sale or something.

Well said.

You are a smart individual, it's so obvious yet people here don't understand that this is not the new standard controller, this is an upgrade catered to the hardcore, the elite if you will, it's in the damn name. It's good to have options, why people are getting upset about this is beyond me.

People complain cause 150 bucks is too much for them. I consider the 200 dollar scuf controllers to be overpriced as fuck too.

Complaining about the price doesn't mean we're ignorant at all, either, I'm sure most people in this very thread realize who the the controller is aimed for.

Can't even complain about prices during E3 without getting called ignorant or an idiot. Incredible.

I really don't think any of these are comparable to the Elite controller.

The dpad has me interested for fighting games(specifically virtua fighter). I never could use an arcade stick, if this dpad works well, I may get it just for that.

Yeah the DPAD interests me too. It looks like it might work.

Has it been said whether the LB and RB clicking is still there? If its gone, I might actually get this controller on day 1, just because I hate it so much.

Just got an email from GS - preorder cancelled.

Was worth a try! Although I would argue that the wording of "Confirmed" would count as a written agreement.

Thank you for speaking my mind. This controller is a great deal for what it does.

People who are not pro or elite like to buy products that have the word elite or pro in their name... Most people only need windows home edition and yet they want pro..

This has a ton of functionality, but more than twice the cost of an original X1 controller? Whoa.

Edit: I understand it's not a standard controller, so I guess when compared to other "upgraded" ones on the market it doesn't seem that bad.

70€ would be fine, 150$ is way too much.
MS, you fucked it up again with greed.
Also, who the hell wants 20$ for your proprietary wireless receiver (which only works on 10 and probably only with 4 Controller) if you could get for a DS4 a cheap Bluetooth Stick (about 10$ or even less) and it does the same thing and can do even way more than handle controllers (DS3 and 4) if you want?
I like the controller but this is just way too much money for that.

My interest in the controller was getting pretty high until I realized that being able to change the sensitivity of the sticks doesn't mean change the tension of the sticks. As far as I know they are as loose as ever.

100 million dollar controller. Revision of 100 million dollar controler. Elite version of revised 100 million dollar controller, and the sticks are still too loose.

:(

I don't know why, but I find the idea of a high end controller really appealing. Maybe because my DS4's left sick is slowly disintegrating....

Sorry if this has been answered, but is this the "new" controller that was mention awhile ago with the 3.5 mm headphone jack?

No.

I wonder if they fixed the shitty shoulder buttons that the Xone controller has :|

That thing is sitting in my desk drawer gathering dust. I went back to my wireless 360 controller.

I'm still going for it, as I know someone who does tension modification. I sent two of Xbox controllers to him before. Never had a problem with either controller when it was returned. I might get two of these depending on if there are other colors available and no the pricing doesn't bother me. If I can afford something I buy it, if not I don't buy it and don't complain about it's pricing because my life is screwed up.

Quick question for everyone, where and when did you guys study economics?
It's fantastic that we have all these economists here instead of out there making money in the world.

Before anyone gets on my case, I grew up extremely poor and now make quite a bit of money and understand the flow of money. So if any wants to get into pricing be prepared for quite a fight.

Best regards,

You're faulting the wrong party, this is down to MS's stupidity, not people. The vast majority of their customer base (by vast I mean 80-90%+) are not even tangentially aware of SCUF, the Custom Controller Scene, or the general costs involved. Quite simply, you don't put a product like this in your E3 press conference because the obvious implication is going to be that it's a mass market item intended as a replacement/supplement for the standard pad. Wheels, arcade sticks, and flight/mech apparatus are well understood to be highly specialized tertiary add-ons with the price premiums to go along with it. A controller with a couple extra buttons and nobs does not immediately appear to fall into the same category.

Does the mass market consumer consider themselves an "elite gamer" because thats exactly who MS specifically said this controller was for.

Well, looks like I'm not going to get my 3 Elite controllers for 137£.

Yeah but the Mass Market does not watch E3......id bet only 10-20% of Xbox one owners even watched E3, and thats given the high end, its probably more like 5% watched it.

The Controller itself is an absolute steal in the market that it is in. Like others have posted, the average Scuf controller is somewhere between $175 -$200, and thats without the fact you have to wait 6 weeks for Scuf to deliver it.......

I am referring to this thread where individuals have attempted to contextualize the price, but others still refused to understand and talk cost.

Perhaps I am giving elements of GAF too much credit. We have threads about video cards ranging in the $700-$900 range, and threads talking about arcade sticks with Sanwa-Denshi parts costing $200+. The forum is clearly for videogame enthusiasts.... but now we are talking sticker shock on a luxury product.

But look at the posts after my one, notice that cost is still being talked about....

Just like the Xbox 360 Elite or Wii U "Pro" controller, cause there's no precedence for manufacturers adding these blusterous descriptors.

That's the whole point, even among hardcore/enthusiasts, the majority are unaware of this product segment. This is a literal niche of a niche. You don't put something like this on your biggest stage, price it in line with all the other competitors, then complain when people complain.

Best regards,

This should be edited into OP

Is it easy to get a refund if I take the controller out the package and use it for a few hours? Never had much success getting refunds on shit like this.

Price announcement did nothing for me, premium price for hopefully premium product, still totally getting this glorious thing. Will wait a bit to see if there's really no issues tho.

Considering I have owned 4+ Scufs (two 360 pad and two One pads) this announcement is targeted perfectly at me. When they first unvelied the X1 controller I was disappointed that they did not include any extra buttons or paddles. I had hoped they would take inspiration from what these custom controller companies are doing and now they finally are.

Looks better than a Scuf and is cheaper. Sign me up.

MS is always on point with their controllers, it was the main/primary reason I waited until the very end to buy a PS3 last gen. As a PS4 owner, I'm very envious.

Best regards,

Scuf can make a case for $150 considering the amount of customization they offer in terms of features/colors/sticks, a smaller company dealing with thousands instead of millions has to account for the higher overhead for each part, plus who knows if they're even getting a discount on the X1 controllers in the first place.

MS on the other hand will be churning these things out by the hundreds of thousands. Their cost to market is going to be considerably lower. They chose to price gouge.

The only positive thing about the price is I'm sure the guys at Scuf appreciate Microsoft not putting them out of business overnight.

If Microsoft was so confident about its position in the market with the controller then they would have announced the price of it to the audience in the theater.

They didn't.
