XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

I think having a high end gaming controller is a good thing, though.

I do like that they're are companies not obsessed with race to the bottom tactics.

Which place is better to ore-order at Amazon or Microsft Store?

I totally forgot about the MS store. I'll probably order from there since they have free shipping and returns. Amazon has prime shipping, but I also get charged tax now :(

Edit: Why did I think MS store didn't charge tax? May just stick to Amazon, although I do like the option of being able to return or exchange the item easily at a physical store if need be. Hmmm.

150 buck controllers? Insane. Will not ever support such a scheme. I'm okay with 3rd parties making arcade sticks for this price, but 1st party gamepads at 150? Never.

Er, shouldn't the price just reflect the hardware, not first party vs third party? Not defending the price, but I don't get the distinction. If it's better than third party controllers, sure, charge more

So if an Aussie wants to use this wirelessly on their PC it's going to cost around $250...

Yeah it's not cheap for us. I initially baulked at that price, but when I think about how much I'll use it for Xbone and PC gaming, and the kind of games I play, it doesn't seem that bad. I just ordered one from Amazon anyway. I just wish it was out for the release of Forza 6.

I'm also just wondering for the people using the Eneloop batteries, do you use the standard or Pro batteries? And how long do they last for on each charge? Cheers.

I'm at E3 right now.

A couple of things that maybe haven't been mentioned yet:

- All the customizable bits are metal, and beautifully made.
- There are two dpad options: a standard cross, and the weird dish thing.
- The sticks are made of shiny stainless steel. Combined with whatever they're lining the stick well with is so smooth feeling that it's shocking.
- All the customizable parts (sticks, paddles, d-pad) are all magnetically attached, they just click in and click out.
- It is heavier that the normal controller and way better built. I tried hard to flex the controller, and there is none of the plastic creak and squeak of the normal controller.

Can wait to get my hands on that

Sometimes when the gap is huge I would buy the stuff from US Amazon. Shipping fee is acceptable and usually takes only 3-4 days.
For eneloop I prefer the white ones on the controller. As far as I know the black ones are for things like remote toys.

Regular eneloops here.

I think the overall life of the Pros is much worse than the regulars and are not a huge gain in short term performance.

Ok thanks, I'll have to grab some and a charger. One last question, how many hours do you roughly get out of a set of charged eneloops? Cheers.

Depends on how much you play, I probably average about 4-5 hours a day of play time not counting my controller being on and off all day long for Netflix and such (I'm not the only one that uses it) and I get a couple days worth out of mine.

I did tons of research and I would suggest getting this pack as the smart charger that comes with it is one of the best ones around and the chargers in the older bundles aren't nearly as good.

Just read the first review by NLee the Engineer and you'll see what I mean.

Mine tend to last around 12-18 hours or so with rumble enabled. Some games use more rumble than others so the mileage can vary slightly.

can't wait for the "wooow, I bet he's using an xbox elite controller" and "wow, he had to buy a tricked out controller to get good" comments on gears and the like.

Mine get weeks per charge, but I don't play games every day (I do use the Xbox daily for Netflix and TV, though). I probably play between 4-8 hours of games in a week (I'm older older now, so don't play as much as I used to).

I can fap to this

I want know how well this works. It may make it down to a new version of the normal controller.

I can still point out how crazy that price is.

Everything is relative. The price is proportional to the massive amount of extra R&D that was required on top of the original controller, the inflated bill of materials for the thing, not to mention the fact that at any price, this was going to be for a niche audience compared to the standard one. Microsoft isn't a charity, but they're going out of their way to cater to the crazies who care about things like hair triggers and longer sticks (myself soon to be among them, never ended up getting a Scuf).

Begun, the controller war, has

Controller wars been going on since OG Xbox launched with the duke then refined it to the controller-S. Probably longer if you consider every generation and every console ever released has tweaked/refined the controller going all the way back to the Stick+One Button of the old Ataris.

comes with carrying case

Lol gonna be "that" guy walking in and unzipping his controller case, like the guy at the pool hall just shooting a casual game with a few friends but refusing to use hall sticks and breaking out his alcantra-leather-lined pool cue case.

Yeah, I'm gonna be THAT guy playing XB1 at my mate's house. I have a feeling once I try this thing I'm not going to want to settle for plebian controllers afterward.

This relates to me... Yeah, if this is anything like a custom cue stick it becomes a personal part of you and you begin to take pride in it and yeah, you really don't want to use anything inferior any longer lol.

You can, but what does it matter, really? It's not a replacement for the regular controller, which for most purposes is a great controller.

There is hardly any practical difference between a universe that has only a regular controller and nothing else, and a universe that has both a regular controller and a premium controller.

Damn now I'm glad I pre ordered this on Amazon. Still hope I get this Day One. Sucks I placed my order a day after they went up. Normally Amazon is pretty good only taking in stock they know they will have for launch.

The more I see video and hear impressions...

Lawd. Can't wait. Do we have an expected release date?

Its a huge plus, not sure why you would want an internal battery that gets weaker over time.

I'll never understand why people complain about AAs when the ps4 controller can barely push a few hours. I love the ps4 controller, but I had to switch to 360s on PC because the battery life was so terrible. My 360 controllers last for ages.

Hopefully there will be deals on Black Friday or something. My TE stick was the last console stick I'll ever drop $100+ for.

Mostly because console peripherals are essentially useless after a generation.

hmm. maybe I can make an excuse to get one for my comfy couch PC gaming. I imagine it'll be good for like...ever on that platform.

Was so excited when this got announced, then I found out it was 150$ and told myself I'd never spend that on a controller.

Then I prordered on Microsofts store. Wish it was coming out sooner.
