XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

This controller looks pretty nice. I think I buy an Xbox One within the week or so for Gears and then get this controller when it comes out. It will be nice to use on PC as well.

Wow, the MS store has a $350 version with MCC, AC Unity, and 12 months of Xbox Live. That's a hot deal.

60+60+60+150=330?

Yeah, I go it down to 75 too.

Chat wasn't so helpful, but the person was nice.

But, I had to email Amazon instead, and they managed to pull through for me.

I basically gave them a link to the price drop, a link to this thread and a link to GameStop.co.uk having the controller for cheaper.

Make sure you're pleasant throughout.

Not sure if this deserves a new thread or not, but Frankie(stinkles) confirmed they are working on something for halo fans. he was pretty vague about it though. So now we sit & wonder if we should keep the pre order for the standard elite or if something better is coming 。゚(゚´Д`゚)゚。

That was the post someone replied to. I have no idea what this controller could be since he seemed to divert from it being a halo themed elite controller copy.

Hopefully a themed elite controller. I really want the elite controller, but I also really want the Master Chief controller too!

What do I need to do to get Amazon to drop the price for me? Just ask for assistance and then ask for a price drop on the item?

My guess would be more along the lines of a Halo-specific controller scheme preset within the companion app, to default certain Halo movements (jump, grenade, change weapon, enter vehicle?) to the four paddles so you don't have to do it manually yourself. I doubt they're making a Halo-themed Elite controller. It's already a $150 controller, can't see them doing a small production run of Halo-themed ones as it would (I assume) be cost prohibitive.

That's my guess too. I think it would also alienate some people to come out with a Halo-themed Elite so soon as many Halo fans have already preordered an Elite controller in anticipation of Halo.

EDIT: Also, isn't Stinkles part of 343? That would make even more sense that they are "working with the Elite team" to have a Halo-setup in the controller app.

I think Halo support in the Elite app was already assumed. I think he's referring to something else. Perhaps a controller skin or analog sticks.

It feels a lot better than the original controller. You're gonna love it. The only flaw is adjusting the volume for the controller. I hope MS puts in a quicker way to raise/lower the volume. This whole having to go into the menu thing kinda sucks.

Also wireless updating! No more searching for that fucking micro usb you put away months ago.

On topic, I really wanna feel this elite controller. I'm willing to plunk down $150 if it feels great. From the pictures it almost looks like a leather like texture on the handles? I would be into that added grip.

Would using the headphone adapter fix that issue though? I really like it since the mute button is in a convenient place.

Oh boy, let my second guessing begin. I hope it's announced soon.

Keep your preorder. This will likely be special halo themed attachment buttons. Maybe some presets in the app. They definitely aren't going to launch an entire themed elite controller this close to launch.

I hope so. If they did release a halo themed elite controller that would push me to get the halo 5 astro a40 as well to complete the set DX I was fine not getting the halo 5 astro cause i will be using the elite controller anyway and its not halo themed. so i figured having a non halo themed headset wouldn't look bad. it would compliment the controller ><

So what's the deal with this thing? Is it launching on the 6th or the 27th? Also, have anyone in the US been able to get Amazon US to reduce the price?

So it's a controller with 4 extra buttons on the back?

That's... actually really useful.

Main problem with controllers is a severe lack of buttons on them , can't map shit with just the standard triggers and face buttons.

Scuf controllers have become massively popular at tournaments, and Microsoft has wisely capitalized with their own version that will likely sell more for being first-party.

That's pretty cool.
Just needs a modifier key on the back as well and it can almost replace a keyboard in pc games. (or allow console games that aren't handicapped by a lack of inputs).

I'm still baffled that the current gen console controllers didn't have more buttons on them, it's the one thing I just kind of assumed they would have.

These things are way more interesting than the steam controller to me.
does xinput recognise the 4 back paddles as seperate buttons? (as in can I map them in games to seperate keys?)

Happy with that date. Hope EU follows shortly.

I saw Razer made a special X1 controller as well, and it was ugly as hell. I don't get that anyway. They could do well making a PS4 controller because Sony doesn't have a controller like that. Instead they go up against an official MS product. Good luck with that.

They haven't shown off the PC version of the app yet and we know you're only able to bind buttons on the controller and no macros in the Xbox One app. I would think they try to make it a little more robust for the PC version of the app.

Thanks for the info

I hope so, this would make a really good pc controller if they do it properly.

The standard Xbox One controller was recently redesigned to include a 3.5mm headset jack, plus:
"With the updated controller, in addition to the volume and mute controls on gaming headsets, you'll also have the option to adjust headset volume, mic monitoring, and voice and game audio balance through the Settings menu on your console. We've also improved the quality of audio coming through the controller and increased the maximum audio volume on headsets used with this controller, based on fan feedback."

"In addition to audio improvements, we've fine-tuned the bumpers for more consistent performance anywhere along the full surface of the bumper. And we've enabled wireless firmware updates on the updated controller which eliminates having to connect the controller via USB cable to receive updates."
Does the Elite controller contain all of these improvements? All I've seen confirmed is the headset jack.

I'd really appreciate it if we could get some official confirmation from Microsoft on this. I'd also like to see the technical specs on the 3.5mm output's sound quality on the original standard controller versus the new and improved one (and the Elite).

The bumpers are definitely better than the ones on my Day One controller, so I'd say yes.

It would be nice if they gave us a concrete release date in europe. I have mine on pre-order but it the shop just said october.

Im hoping to have it before halo 5 launches.

yes, it is based on the updated pcb of the 3.5mm controller. they talked about it on the interview w/ majornelson

Just seen the MS Store (USA) and Amazon.com have this marked as a release date for the 27th of October....

Gamestop UK have marked it as a release date of the 15th of October....

Sucks that we're not getting this until Halo 5 release day. I'll be playing the game at midnight but prob won't get the controller until 6 or 7 the next evening. Guess I won't start arena for a couple days so I can get used to the alternate control scheme.

Thanks for that tidbit about he wireless updates Lamonster. Too bad it couldn't be done with the older controllers. Wonder if it's some sort of wireless security hardware they had to use.

Update wirelessly

An Xbox One Wireless Controller purchased in or after June 2015 can take updates wirelessly without connecting via USB cable. This controller has a 3.5-mm port; controllers without this port must update via USB cable.

Sweet. I'm still on the fence about the elite controllers. Now that Castle Crashers Remastered is out on X1, I may just spend that money and buy two new standard controllers to get some 4 player mayhem in.

Will the elite controller have a slot to plug the headset adapter into it? I'm still using Turtle Beach XP 500's and they require the headset adapter.

60+60+60+150=330?

Oh I didn't even come back and check this thread! I meant a console bundle, no controller involved. I bought a different bundle with a 1TB console.

I was going to get this controller but I started using the Tournament mapping for Gears and it's worked so well that I'm probably going to pass on the Elite controller. I wish consoles had more open, game-specific mappings. Not really that hard to add and it's a ton of value to players.
