XB1 Elite Controller ($150)

Hey, I'm not the one who thinks those improvements that probably cost very cheap to MS is worth an extra $90, just using common sense. About your hilarious last comment, not even the iPad is this overpriced.

Specialty items cost more because they need to recover the R&D costs of something that isn't likely to sell huge numbers. If it's a worthwhile value proposition to you, buy it. If not, don't.

Not $90 more though, the problem here is that it's a controller for a closed platform, it's not nice having select people using better controller, forcing some to spend such a huge amount to upgrade and compete.

Yeah, it's a nice controller but not one of those reviews is praising the price. Also, it's a normal xbone pad with higher quality materials, and extra customization with those new handles, that alone is not worth $90 dollars more, it's overpriced any way you put it. It's made for a market who they know they can milk.
That's your opinion. It's obviously not marketed to you, and your not interested. So why are you even here?

You say normal xbone pad like that's a bad thing to start off with, the best controller ever made IMO.

A controller which is designed for PC and Xbox isn't a controller designed for a closed platform. It's just not available on Sony/Nintendo hardware.

It's not nice LMAO. so this whole argument is because you can't afford it?

Friend, this already happens with arcade sticks and fighting games/shooters.

PC is a closed platform now?

Those controllers (200+ dollars) have existed for years. MS is now offering one that's as good or better for less money. If it's too expensive for you, buy the regular one. Or continue to shake your fist at passing clouds. Your choice.

But MS is not nice for offering these controllers, man.

No, not really, it's because it's a terrible value proposition and it forces people into buying it to compete. I own a pretty expensive PC, doesn't mean I buy Alienware products blindly, only the best value propositions.

Haha, people are so oversensitive regarding this controller, I'm not saying is about being nice, it's just the phrase I used.

PC is a closed platform now?

It's compatible with the xbox, remember?

I don't recall ever seeing Microsoft forcing me to buy this controller.

Haha, comparing the value of a normal car and a ferrari and a normal gamepad vs an elite controller, just stop dude. It's really sad reading how people justify wanting to pay more, marketing really does it's work.

Not justifying wanting to pay more, nobody wants to pay more for the sake of it, except maybe Iphone users. Its wanting better quality, and not being afraid to pay for it. Even beyond the higher build quality (do you even know? have you used one?) you get software for customization and a nice case. If you don't want to pay that much, wait, it will come down, the way you're talking though, it sounds like you'd skip buying it anyway just because of who makes it.

FYI, people are already using controllers that give them huge advantages even on closed platforms. This controller doesn't go nearly as far as other modded controllers in allowing users to essentially cheat.

How the hell does it force people to compete? There's no input delay advantage, it's not like it's got turbo buttons. It's for quality and option, to suit your preference.

Just using those paddles on the back for clutch/gearing on Forza would be amazing. Then there's Halo. Bumper jumper anyone?

Specialized peripherals for a higher price is not a new phenomenon. You can play a fighting game with a gamepad of a fight stick, you can play a racing game with a gamepad or a wheel. The same goes here. As for the price, I do find the controller ludicrously expensive but in the end the market itself will decide whether the price is worth it. High-end hardware is often overpriced, you pay a premium for having the best in class.

Exactly, even without "competitive advantage" (lol) it's going to do very nice things for lots of games I cant wait to use it to have enough buttons to properly control Elite Dangerous.

Of course they don't, you'll probably want to get one to have and advantage though, and a lot of people will follow, that's my point. Also, don't get mad, I'm arguing price which is a valid argument against this controller but you seem to be taking it too personal.

Why in the fuck are you getting your panties in a bunch? I'm serious. Why are you upset?

I really wanna get this, but I don't have the disposable income to drop $169.99 (Canadian) on a controller right now :(.

It sucks cause my right thumbstick on my xbox one is broken so I can't even play my xbox. Haven't played for months and I can't commit to spending $80 on the same controller again when I'd rather have this. That price though... :(

I'mt not even sure if this is sarcasm anymore? i'm stating it's overpriced like 90% of the internet did when it was announced and I've got half of GAF against me, I'll just state the obvious again.

It's overpriced, have a nice day.

Why are you taking this so personal? It's a controller that's $150 plus tax. That's all there is to it. I sure as hell ain't buying one, buy why you have to shit in other people's soup? This is going to be the best controller ever made. EVER! And 150$ isn't that much. It's half the price of a Xbox. I would easily pay half an Xbox for this beautiful controller if I wasn't as good as I am with my lunar lander white one.

If you don't think the price is justified, then that's your opinion and it's not for you. There's a lot of us here which understand the cost of R&D and the increased manufacturing cost.

I'm definitely going to pick this up, I keep wearing my controllers down and want the flexibility of this controller. Since the thumb sticks are metal, I won't be wearing them down.

It's overpriced = I can't afford it

Why can't you accept that you're not the target demographic? People that have money will pour money into their hobbies regardless. If this controller is overpriced, they'll take their money elsewhere.

Right now, that elsewhere is Scuf and Microsoft is trying to snag a piece of their pie. They're probably going to succeed, too, given that their shit's first party and also cheaper when you put it up against a comparable controller.

Does this thing come with any kind of extended warranty? I'm worried that all the finnicky plastic bits won't last very long.

Quality control is what worries me the most about this controller. I've had horrible luck with every single controller MS has ever made.

Literally my only complaint about this isn't in the price.

For $175 USD for the controller and wireless (more since I'm Canadian), I want to at least be able to choose my colours!

Silver and black is so plain. Let me have a white Elite controller with light blue buttons, sticks, etc.

I think it's priced competitively with controllers that share some of its features. I thought that was obvious.
They've said something like they don't expect it to sell like gangbusters. I don't know if I buy the whole forcing us to buy it since the old controllers will do fine and nobody gets mad at the custom controller makers.

From what I understand, the paddles are made of steel which was the only thing that worries me. Trying to find a link confirming this, though. I know some other parts are steel.

Prove it.

No it isn't. And thank you.

Unless the new material is silver, logic says it shouldn't be $90 more, they target this demographic because they'll bite at any price, like apple does, and it's clever because people justify it on their own. I'm not offended by it, I play on PC and PS4, but I sure as hell wouldn't like a $150 controller on PS4. It's a very nice controller, but I can't justify that price at all, would rather get a Steam controller and see if it's good.

I don't see why people are bothering to argue with you if you're already in the mindset that any actual reason it might cost what it does is just self justification

Gaf = the internet? News to me. I always thought it was a minority of users compared to the internet.

Sure, I could have just linked you to the whole internet to prove it to you, but I thought it was a better idea to direct you to a forum with the demographic for this type of controller rejecting the price.

People here really don't understand products developed for niche communities are genuinely not made, expected, or priced to push large volumes to the masses.

This controller is for us niche folks with a taste for the finer things or those serious about competing.

I don't even own a XBone and I am buying 2 of these controllers for my PC alone. I think they are priced just fine. Those more price sensitive among us can wait for inevitable sales to get their hands on one.

If you think they are overpriced that's fine and MS doesn't care one bit about that. They are happy to exclude you as a customer for this product since you weren't targeted as a customer in the first place.

What are you actually talking about lol

I might blow your mind here but some things are more expensive than other things.

Still a tiny fraction of the people its actually sold too, and you're linking to inital reactions before there was any hands on, which incidentally you never acknowledged if you actually have any hands on.
