Someone (arne, I'm pretty sure, but I'm covering my ass just in case) in another thread said not to expect it today, but "very, very soon".
 
Oh man! I saw this thread bump and got all excited. I doubt they'll release the update over the weekend, so I suppose it'll be next week now. Can't wait. Awesome update with all kinds of things I wanted.

Conspiracy theory says it got pushed back to not compete with the launch of World Series of Poker by Activision.

Ah, at least this conspriacy isn't true. It's definitely not for that reason, but things are such that I can't say why. (surprise)
 
cool, i've been waiting for that totemball game in a big way. that's the basketball like game right? looked ****ing great in the OXM mag awhile back. was even in 3d i believe.

the XBLA game? then no. totemball is different.
Hoop World I think was the name of the XBLA game.
 
Personally I think they are trying to space game releases out so that they can earn maximum money and exposure for every game. If Street Fighter is there who would buy anything else. Games like Uno and Geometry Wars wouldn't get the attention they deserve. At least that's my conspiracy theory.

Holy shit! I was navigating through the marketplace and then some LOTR Theme ad comes up. I go to that page and I don't know why but I ended up spending 150pts on LOTR backgrounds.

But it took me about 15min. to find out how to change themes!!! Seriously!

But it looks so ****ing amazing, after 6 months of standard background.

Even if that theory isn't true, it would be good for the 'World Series of Poker' Title. If the XBLA Poker game is even halfway decent, it would kill the WSOP sales.

Not necessarily... 56% of 360 owners are on XBL. There's still 44% of the 360 population that would have to buy the game at retail if they wanted poker.

But I don't think they are actually after the same market. Not many offline only people are going to buy a poker game. I guess they can play against the PC but if there are more than a single person to an Xbox, then there will be a problem of everyone seeing each others' cards. I think 90%+ of the buyers of either game will be XBL Gold subscribers.

I somewhat disagree with you. I view a poker game now like I viewed Deer Hunter. Poker is the "in" thing and it appeals heavily to casuals. Joe six pack may not have XBL, but he's going to get poker to practice.

You can (sadly) only have 1 image for all the blades. Arne, any possibility of having pictures for each blade in the future? Or will that enter and hurt the themes market, thus being a no-no?

(I have no idea, but I'll bring that up, it might just be a design of the dashboard as it is right now, since doing multiple pictures for multiple blades will require new menu items in the Pictures menu. Who knows.)

I open the my pictures folder and select a picture, but it won't load. I have the same problem with music, ipod works fine though.
What am I doing wrong? Anyone care to expose my stupidity?

firewall or router settings maybe? do you see the thumbnails when you select a folder? if you have a usb memory stick try saving one of the photos to the stick then plug it in the usb on the 360 and see if it will open from that.

Edit: oh wait are you just having problems setting your pic as background? i think the pic has to be on your hard drive first. if youre trying to do it through media extender or whatever its called i dont think it will work.

Unofficially delayed. MS is the leader when it comes to this technique. A release date is never specified. You hear of something because they intend to release it within two weeks. A few weeks goes by, it never comes out, then everyone asks MS where it is. Instead of saying it was delayed (which in this case seems to be the case), they fall back on the argument that "we never specified a release date."

Just remember kinds, there are some code words in the industry. Two examples.

"we never specified a release date" = it's been delayed

"the game will release in Q4 20xx" = the game will come out in early Nov

I thought this was common knowledge. I have access to all my pics on my PC, and it's nice to show people that stop by wedding and vacation pics on the HD set. What's reallyl surprising is how this actuallyl generates interest in the console. Over the Memorial day weekend when I was showing vacation pics and then jumped onto XBLA to access spades for one of my wife's freinds, she actuallyl screamed to her husband that they should bet one of these consoles (her husband had been begging for months, and now he was shaking my hand thanking me for selling his wife on it). I was just trying to keep her busy, so that I could get away and spend time with the guys. :lol
 
Wow this whole dashboard update is bullshit. All this news on the new dashboard update and after all this hoopla, nothing, well no even a definite date yet. I was all excited for the new update, but making the public wait is bullshit. "Very soon" isnt a good enough answer. Damn, this reminds me of the update for the psp, i think it was 2.5 a major update that didn't come on the date sony stated.

Now I am becoming every wary of "updates" They show us all this great stuff and fail to deviler at the right time. I'm guessing this update won't show up until late aug.

What the trolling?

So, because they didn't give a solid date, it's a let down? Maybe they're still working on it? Maybe they're, you know, home for the weekend?

How much lower can you get?

Even worse is your connection between not coming out right now/when you want it, and it coming late August... I don't say this often, but seriously, wtf?
 
I am not going to bitch and moan about an update being "delayed" when there was never an official date announced. But it is kind of disappointing to hear the details of the update all over Major Nelson and the 1upyours show but still not get to use it yet. Hopefully this week. The new way of custom soundtracks sounds very good.
 
Just remember that MS is the leader when it comes to delays. It seems that 90%+ of their planned releases are delayed. Most developers are significantly better as keeping release dates. Just take it with a grain of salt when you hear MS announce a release date. Better yet, just expect it to be a very very liberal estimate (aka. overwhelming odds of it being pushed back) since that is exactly what it is.

One of the most important things in life is never to get your hopes up to high.

It's also not really 'late' yet--like we talked about in the gamevideos tour, they were saying either last week or this one. If it's not here by Friday, -then- let the bitching commence! :)

This is MS folks you should expect a delay and many announced features to be removed from the release. It's what they do guys.

Not really that good a point.


I hear it comes out "this week" and all the described features are not only intact, but necessary parts of the whole. And they can't really have a delay on this vague a "schedule."
