Can you please point me at where MS officially announced the release date of this update? I must have missed it.
It was implied. MS does not talk about something as if it is complete until it is well into testing. It not having been released is proof of a delay. Maybe a week, maybe a month, we'll see. There is a 95%+ chance that it was scheduled to launch last week or maybe even the previous just going on their rehetoric. There is my thinking.

This is MS folks you should expect a delay and many announced features to be removed from the release. It's what they do guys.

You have MS confused with Sony I think. :lol

No, actually it wasn't. They said "about a week". That does not equal "one week from today". You are holding them to a committed date they did not set. Get over it.

Nice. MN told the guy in charge of Live Arcade, "you have some explaining to do." Sounds like he'll be on next week to talk about the release schedule. Or lack of one. :lol

How annoying... Why is it not out? WELL HE DOESN'T KNOW! How about he just post that instead of having people dl a podcast? He hopes to have more news tomorrow.
The text for the post I linked to is:
Update on the update. I don't have a date yet, but I'll update you as to when I may have more information about it.

haha... oh snap, I missed that...

In any case, I really don't care much about the update (even though it is the suck that it's taking them so long) because it's essentially fixes or things that are common sense and should've been there in the first place. That, and well, there's not a damn thing worth downloading in the Marketplace at the moment, so the new dl queue feature won't be used.

I'm more concerned with the state of Xbox Live Arcade and why they're taking so incredibly long in releasing games. This is definitely where they've dropped the ball. Talk about wasted potential. Well, at least UNO is entertaining me at the moment.

how big exactly is the 360's HD? 40GB? 60GB?

I totally agree. I remember when they said the release schedule would be 3-4 games per month, about four or five months ago. We've had what, four games in that same time span? I keep hearing how over 100 developers are working on Live Arcade titles. That's great but if nothing is released it doesn't do us any good.

20GB

I believe developers didn't realise what Microsoft kind of new all along about how big Live Arcade could be for generating easy money, and demand for some short games to compliment more episodic content in all of our collections.

Yeah. There were a half dozen XBL arcade games shown at E3 that I'll put money down on (out of more than a dozen), and none of them have shown up almost a month later. I know if they all come out in a rush I'll only end up buying one or two.

Small enough to fit on the system's dedicated OS memory?

I read that the initial firmware that shipped with X360 is 4MB, but that doens't tell us the actual size of the flash chip in the X360. I'm guessing the chip is 8MB in size, and this new update with eat up additional MB or two.

Well, keep in mind things like firmware are made to take up as little excess space as needed, so assuming those numbers are correct I'd guess they take up a lot less extra. Many firmware updates don't change the firmware size at all.

But, still good numbers to know.

Major Nelson just put his podcast up. The title is "The one about why it's not out yet."

Downloading now.
Guess why he is apologetic (for once) for it not being out yet? Because it was scheduled to have been out already. You can choose not to connect the dots (referring to my "implied" post) but as far as I am concerned, it should have been out already and this further proves that their internal launch has slipped.

And don't forget that some of the new things (like the Marketplace organizational structure) is now being handled server side. Because we all know text strings take up MASSIVE memory space.

I feel ashamed for not even remembering that. :lol

Arne, ask MS to allow new plugins for the virtual light machine music player!
Forget that, ask them to allow the complete update of Neon with the webcam features I read about on Minter's blog.

12:13 am chillin'....
...streaming Kraftwerk "Radioactivity" off Fluffy into my x360 devkit, which is running Neon/360 Phase 2 pretty much perfectly. Still can't quite believe it's up and running so quickly and so nicely. Quite a lot of work went on between Neon/360 and Neon/PC, which is much more advanced. I even think that Neon/360 phase 2 will become my fave version now, simply because the cam stuff is so much better.

It's ironic because Phase 2 was something that originally MS said they wanted, and then just as we were gearing up to make it, suddenly decided they didn't want after all, even after they sent us the 360 cams to work with and everything... one day we got an email and it just went away. We still wanted to make it anyway, and so we did, on the PC.

So this shouldn't really exist, but it does, and it's fantastic }:-).

You may need to have a PC to run it though, since it is unclear at this time if it'll ever be released on the 360. Would be nice if it was, I am sure people would enjoy being able to make and share effects, and it does show off the cam... but whatever happens it's out on the PC first now :).

I'm just pleased to see it on 360, really. It shouldn't exist, and yet it does, and it's ace, and *that's* ace }:-D
If that's a no then I guess we have to wait for his XBLA game.

MASSIVE SLEEP DAMAGE :P.

Where is clan support anyway. Last I heard of it, was on some E3 Xbox.com article:
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/events/e32006/articles/whatsahead.htm
Future of Xbox Live: Whether you're wondering about the implementation of clan support on Xbox 360, what new directions Xbox Live Marketplace is heading in, how tournaments are going to improve, or what you can expect on Xbox Live Arcade, there's plenty to learn about Xbox Live at E3 2006.
Is that coming in this update, or the next?

Updates, demo's patches have slipped countless times. It's because of internal delays. MN tries not to promise when content will come out. People get pissed of when the target date isn't met.

starting tomorrow we will have another week to wait for the update! yes!

Great, now I gotta stay up past midnight so when the clock strikes 12 and the update isn't out, GAF riots and people come out of the woodworks to say MS lied and is late yet again.

:lol

Thanks, though, arne. What'd we ever do without you?

· Updated Xbox Live Marketplace menus makes it easier for players to find and store all of their gaming and entertainment content. This includes the addition of new menus for media and entertainment content as well as enhanced menus making it easier for gamers to find what’s new in each section as well as a quick view at all downloads by category.

· Full remote control features for Xbox Live Marketplace videos allow gamers to fast forward and rewind at various speeds (2X-16X) during all videos downloaded from Marketplace.

Music Player Improvements

· Custom background music now continues to play without interruption during game loads and when transitioning from game to game or disc content.

· During music play, the music playback screen now showcase the artist, song title and time remaining on the song along with a visualizer showing which song on the playlist or album is currently playing.

DVD Movie Playback Upgrades

· DVD movie bookmarking now allows gamers to pause a movie at any point, put in a game for gameplay and return to the movie at the exact point it left off.

· Improved DVD movie playback for a smoother, higher quality viewing experience, including additional VGA support.

These features are just some of the new experiences gamers can expect on the system as part of this spring update. For a list of additional new features and improvements, visit http://www.xbox.com/live.

Awesome, I have nothing to do tomorrow but wait all day for it to go up!

Honestly, none of the new features are anything that I'll use too extensively, but I need something new to download. Serious drought going on.
