XBL score reset was a glitch... restore in progress

Here is the transcript from the "chat" I had with MS tech support. He could be blowing smoke up my ass... who knows.

{Me}I'm not against them being reset, but you guys have to notify us. And after only 5 weeks on the market? Are scores going to get reset every 5 weeks?

{Me}I've been an XBL subscriber since beta testing in 2001. This is a poor decision by Microsoft and I'll be cancelling my subscription if this is the case.

Um...he conflicts himself like 3 or 4 times in that chat with regard to why the scores were reset. He was in fact blowing smoke up your ass.
 
OH THANK GOD! My current Robotron score was a fluke and I was sad to see it go.

He did take a long time to answer in between questions. Like he was consulting higher authority.
 
What scores? On a particular game's leaderboard, or do you mean achievements? 'Cuz my achievements haven't been reset. Did you do something on your end which might've caused it to wipe your gamerscore? Or is this topic a continuation of something discussed earlier that I didn't read? *mind boggles*

Yes, leaderboard scores. Your achievements will never be reset.... I hope.
 
I can't even get into the customer service chat thingy. It's just stuck on the progress meter. I totally want to bitch them out for resetting the scores too...ok maybe not but I'm sure pissed as hell that they've reset without any notice. I wouldn't have bought the game if I knew scores were gonna be reset this often/quickly or even reset once to begin with.

Dunno, NBA2k6 had a reset a few days ago as well.

I would love to have my DOA score reset, :lol

Without scoreboards, Geometry Wars is worthless. I paid $5 to kick some gaming ass the good ol way and now they just clear it like it's nothing. Whatever.

If we were talking about something like Halo 2, then I wouldn't care. But Geometry Wars goes back to the old days where getting on the high score list means something!
 
This stat reset is the gayest shit ever. I won't even try to get back my high score for the arcade games if this is the case. I haven't been able to check but I'm hoping my DOA 4 stats weren't reset. If they were its pretty good since I'll try for a better record this time. This sucks.
 
the Sports games leaderboard reset every month. A lot of game scoreboards reset every month.

Yeah, they reset leaderboards all the time. They recently nuked all the Forza Motorsport leaderboards just because they were having some sort of a competition in the US. I was top 60 overall in Time Trial mode :(
 
you know, when I was a kid I didnt go to arcades where the owner was a cheapass and unplugged his games at night and didnt store high scores. I guess I can do the same.

I mean, its one thing resetting Halo 2 because people were cheating or using exploits.. but some of these games are soley driven by getting high scores, you cant just reset that shit. I mean, whats the fucking point of geo wars unless its trying to get a higher score than your buddies?
 
Resetting scoreboards?

I agree with Wario that Xbox Live Arcade is worthless if MS keeps on resetting scoreboards.
 
Fucking MS,this better be a glitch.I didnt pay $5 to have my scores reset in arcade games.

I know my 1,100,000 score on the Geo wars board wasnt that high but damn if I didnt work hard to get it >_<

Sounds like it is a glitch and that the stats will be restored, so anyone playing now for high-scores should stop now cause it'll probably be rolled back to yesterdays stats or something in a few hours anyway.
 
How do you know they'll be put back? Saying they're working on resolving it isn't the same as saying "we will fix it soon and nobody will lose their scores"

I've just checked and the games that I play (Hexic, Geo Wars, Mutant Storm and Zuma) have all been wiped. I had decent scores for these games and I'll be VERY pissed off if my friends and I have lost our high scores.
 
I have a feeling this glitch has something to do with the new year. That's pretty freakin pathetic if that's the case too. Talk about shitty testing.

Well I don't know for sure, but I wouldn't worry about it. Something similiar happened with Halo 2 a little over a month ago and it was fixed within a day. I'm sure that Microsoft has daily backups for this kind of stuff. The worst that will probably happen is that the stats get rolled back and you lose any new high scores you made in the last few hours.

They reset the scores at an odd time if it was because of New Years (I played Geo Wars till 2 AM this morning and the scores were still there)

If they can't do something as simple as a rollback...unless they had George Constanza pushing a XBLA server down the road looking for 'holes'

The hacking community has beey very busy this weekend. Accomplishments include:

1. Successfully ripping Hexic off of a kiosk disc and executing it in a PC browser (it runs very slowly)
2. Successfully modifying Hexic and running it on an Xbox 360 connected to Xbox Live
3. Hacking Hexic to earn several of the achievements without doing any of the work
4. Successfully running simple Flash applications that were never on the Xbox 360 (such as a clock application)
5. Modifying certain aspects of the King Kong kiosk demo to create the simple program pictured here

Speculation:

* Could this third item be behind the reset of the Xbox Live leaderboards? We hear people were earning some sick scores in Hexic before the reset.
* These findings might make it possible to run a flash-based browser, flash-based media players, or even other flash games not available on Xbox Live Arcade
* There are many avenues of research that the hacking community is exploring. Given the history of past efforts by Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft to prevent modification (all to no avail), it seems inevitable that one or more of these seeds of opportunity will yield fruit
* How far away are we from a gamer points reset, given that some gamers have been able to cheat to obtain them?
* Will it become possible to cheat at other games? That's the surest way to sap the enjoyment from any game, as Halo players on Xbox Live who have been the victims of cheaters can attest.

Cheers. I hope it's fixed soon and it doesn't become a regular thing. If scores get reset every time someone finds an exploit then I don't see the point in playing for high scores anymore. Why should my scores get wiped because someone else (who clearly has an impossible score) cheated his way onto the leaderboard?

And if my Achievements are wiped then I'll be really angry.

No I'm certain those are there to stay. Otherwise I'd be angry too.

Robotron was fixed when I went to bed last night...

All scores were back, all VS MODE was correct... AND I AM RANKED #1 AT 70-9... NICE!

:D
