Xbox One was almost called Xbox Infinity, Penello confirms

Forbes: Were there other names considered for the Xbox One? We’d heard rumors about it being called Xbox Infinity, Xbox Live, etc., but where did One come in?

Penello: That’s actually from the brand guys. The name is all them. We just wanted to make sure the hardware was solid. What it was called was top secret, even for many people on the team.

Forbes: We’d heard often that Infinity was the final name. Many of us thought it was a good candidate, given the connection to Infinity over and over in the Halo series.

Penello: The name Xbox Infinity was in the running, I can say that. They’re crafty. Who’s to say that they didn’t leak that name out in the weeks ahead of the launch? They are very crafty.
