Xbox 360...biggest first-party drought ever?

Say what? You don't think gamers will buy Gears of War @ $50?

::throws Mike's opinion in the stupid bin::

Of fucking course they will. I'm just saying it's not likely that, in addition to GoW, they'll buy Mass Effect, Too Human, Crackdown and Viva Pinata in the span of 3 months; the same few months that PS3 will be out, and slew of other great 3rd party titles will be available for 360. Microsoft just needs to string gamers along, and make it appear as if one monster title is coming out after another or its going to be a mess.

As for Rare: I was never a huge fan, (more interested in Quake than Goldeneye) but I can still appreciate their 360 efforts. Assets/graphics wise it's all there, but whoever is actually directing PDZ and Kameo needs to be fired, shot or both.

I wanna get some launch titles (MGS titles or otherwise) but I refuse to pay full price att this point -- especially since they're fuckin 50-60 bucks. We need some price drops dammit...
I totally agree. I dunno why I even bought a X360 this early since I'm as cheap as they come. I still got no games :(

This is rediculous. This system has been out for 5 months and we have Oblivion, GRAW, Fight Night 3, Burnout Revenge, COD2, PGR3, Kameo, Tomb Raider, etc. and people are bitching about First Party support.

The role of the first party is kind of unique. In the absence of the third parties doing it, it falls to the first party to provide platform-defining games, stuff that really pushes things, or is simply justexclusive. As good and great as many of these games are, none of them are particularly "Xbox 360". I can, and have, played nearly all of these games elsewhere, even if not always as prettily as I could have on 360. As additions to the library, they're all very welcome obviously, but while third parties keep throwing ports at the system, some people are going to be trying to see where the uniquely-360 games are, and inevitably they're going to prod at MS about that if third parties won't step up to the plate. Xbox had Halo and a bunch of others by this point. You might argue that 360's lineup is better (in the sense of more diverse or wider) at the same point now, and I may not wholly disagree, but it is lacking the distinctive and unique flavour that Xbox's lineup enjoyed early on.

I also agree some people will care about this more than others - like you say, despite not being distinctively or exclusively 360, there are some very good games there - but some people do, especially, I think, if they're a multiplatform gamer. And also perhaps if they were a Xbox fan - MS did serve them quite differently with Xbox than they have to date with 360, to be quite honest, so there may be a bit of disappointment there, and some expectations to be managed.

(And yeah, 360 probably is not unique in this regard, especially so early on, but as time wears on I guess people grow more impatient. And people coming exclusively from Xbox probably aren't used to it.)

People complain when a publisher announces a game too early and development takes longer then expected, which is even a bigger worry to devs with this "next-gen anno 2006"

Then when publishers and developers finally LISTEN to gamers and do decide to keep their mouths shut until they actually have something to say or show, people complain again.

WHAT TO DO? :D

is about quality not quantity the new vision of MGS
(moore said something like that)

about the x360 well imho the first xbox was a more solid product in terms of value. I wish it had at least 1 more year to exploit its potential

Remember when Nintendo took that tact with the N64? Worked out great...

If given the chance, Peter Moore could figure out a way to screw up any company - be it MS, Nintend or Sony. The guy is just that talented...

I own PDZ/RR6/Geometry Wars and will buy Oblivion later on, but outside of Oblivion nothing released is worth owning.

in your humble opinion.

even if MS had released some quality 1st party titles, this board would still be bitching about something 360 related. it's a lose-lose situation for the 360 on GAF. personally, i'm not feeling any kind of drought. there's always something for me to play on the 360 whether it be XBLA or going back and trying to gain some achievements from the titles i own. then there's the convenience of having a quick online game with an online community that's decently populated.

i mean really, it seems like people want MS to give them the world with the 360. that's what choices and variety are for. if you think one console can give you everything, then you're dreaming or need to get a better paying job. all 3 for the next-gen win.

I own Oblivion and GRAW. Don't need anything else for a while, and I rent the other games from places like Gamefly. I've actually done more of the downloading of HD movie trailers than anything else so far - cool feature.

Come Saturday it'll have been FIVE months since the Xbox 360 launched in North America, and it'll have been FIVE months since a single Microsoft Games Studios game (retail or XBLA) was released for the system...

DOA4 isn't from MGS?
Couldn't we consider NNN from MGS too?

DOA4 is published by Tecmo, not MGS.
And yeah NNN would count, but there's yet to be a US release date on that one.

I always see information on Nintendo's 1st and 2nd party developers and what they MIGHT be working on here at GA.

But as for MSFT, I don't even know which developers they own besides Bungie!

In other words....it's chart makin' time!

Microsoft seems more interested in making deals for exclusives then going all out on their own. They do own bungie and rare though, with rare being my favorite developer on the 360. PDZ and kameo were both amazing for what they were doing.

In response to the first post: UNO was not announced until very recently, and was not even announced in March, let alone promised by then.

Where's Street Fighter 2 Turbo? Wasn't it supposed to hit in March? It's nearly May and we've not heard a peep about it. :(

We'll have to see who publishes it in the USA.

Indications seem to suggest that it will be an MGS title, what with Peter Moore's "announcement" of it around GDC as well.

Actually it was announced in March. March 21st: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/2006/0321-springsurge.htm

And at least two games promised at CES to be live by March, weren't:

"By March, we'll be proud to announce that more than 20 games will be available through Xbox Live Arcade, games like Streetfighter 2 from Capcom, games like Texas Hold 'Em and Marble Blast Ultra." http://www.microsoft.com/billgates/speeches/2006/01-04CES.asp

He also promised "more than 20." We're right exactly at 20, and it's the end of April. Oops. Jesiatha, I love ya and I love Arcade, but I hope E3 sets Arcade on a consistent path, finally.

You're right. I was thinking that GDC wasn't until April. However, we did not announce a release date for UNO (and still haven't).

I feel your pain, and rest assured that the Arcade team is working extremely hard. I hope everyone will be happy when we get the next batch of games released and announced.
