Well, it was announced at E3 and it was to match the Xbox One design.

That actually is confusing though. Why would you want to remodel an old unit 360 to look like a new model One?

I mean I don't know how much consumers might be tripped up by it, but it is sort of a weird idea.

It's not weird. It's so they both mirror the same design aesthetics while sitting in your media center. It's better to have similar-looking devices sitting on your shelf than a mismatch of designs.

Now, I'm not running out to buy one, mind you, but it makes sense from a unified product design standpoint.

It's one thing to have a 'scheme' - a general design philosophy - then to actively try to match the design to each other and make them sort of twins. Then it just looks confusing in an entertainment system instead imo

This. Touch buttons are such crap. I accidentally bump the power button/tray button every time I come within 3 ft of my Xbox.

It isn't identical to the Xbox One, it was meant to follow its boxed design philosophy - So it'd fit into your 'home cinema center' alongside your Xbox One, for that 360 backwards compatibility.

I would not be surprised if Microsoft were to drop this to $100 to start off the holiday shopping season.

That way, they will mix the Xbox One launch numbers with the Xbox 360 to say Xbox sales are good.

Whatever that means.
